Which order would you rank these championships
Hardwood83 replied to FearMcCracken's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
IUBB NC, aka moar Btown bannerage IUFB Rose Bowl, seems like a fantasy, but the Cubs are now perennial winners, so..... Pacers NBA championship. I don't care much about the NBA but am pretty tired of the usual suspects. IUbaseball CWS title. It would feel really good to have a NC in another "major" sport. Colts Super Bowl. They aren't my favorite NFL team, but they are from my hometown. Cubs WS #2 of the modern era. -
No kidding, does anyone believe that Adidas was mixed up in this but Nike wasn't? Not even laughable, it's idiotic. Just start listing Nike schools and the indictments start writing themselves: Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Arizona, Syracuse, Mich State.....you'd have to really suspend disbelief not to see that.

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Hardwood83 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Exactly. He CAN do it, will he consistently? That is likely the difference between being a surprise nationally and competing in a down B1G and being on the bubble. Not to say Phinisee won't contribute, I'm just realistic about what to expect from a freshman. DG has shown the potential to be a top 3 PG in the conference, IMO. -
Juwan Morgan RETURNING For Senior Season
Hardwood83 replied to Cheaney40's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Mildly surprised he waited this long. I will be shocked and disappointed if he stays in though. -
Oh wow, just a lot of hilarity in that article. My favorite? "Purdue coach Matt Painter and the university declined comment to the Journal & Courier...." What, exactly, do they expect Painter to say about this? "Well at least he didn't rape her like at Michigan State!"
-
They have history on their side. KU has been filthy dirty for a long time and hasn't been touched. Let's hope their pride goes before a fall. The fact this is an FBI investigation rather than NCAA certainly gives me more hope for some actual justice, but we'll see.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Hardwood83 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
They have convened a blue-ribbon committee to study the issue and conclude that it's outside the NCAA's purview.....ok, that was my commentary. What he actually said: " Emmert noted that the formation of an independent Commission on College Basketball in October intended to provide recommendations on cleaning up the sport. "With these latest allegations, it's clear this work is more important now than ever," the NCAA president said." -

Gigantic, hulking dorks that are awkward around pretty girls love it there! -

Recency bias! I think Cody single-handedly changed the direction of IU basketball. Romeo can have a real impact, but I have a hard time seeing it being as dramatic. I challenge him to prove me wrong!! -
Not to minimize the allegations here, but addressing Izzo's part, it goes back to the old saying "it's not the crime it's the cover-up" I understand the motivation to "protect" your players, but hiding heinous crimes for personal gain is despicable.

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
Hardwood83 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I seem to remember some people expecting Hunter to eventually move to a SG role. Is that hopeful conjecture or do his skills justify that? -
Who's Declaring/Transferring Around NCAA 2018
Hardwood83 replied to HoosierCoop's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That makes perfect sense, but how many times have we seen 5 stars flock to pUKe or Dook despite the same drawback? Romeo is his own man, though. Hope he wants to be the man at home rather than a cog that will be soon forgotten at the cesspool in Lawrence. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Hardwood83 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm guessing: A) Hoosier Guy is feeling hopeless because life has beat him down or he's been reading Nietzsche or B) This is a sarcastic swipe at those that relish being negative. -
Absolutely agree. The B1G wasn't very good this season. Next season? Like you said, a lot of important players leaving. MSU loses it's 2 best players and lots of experienced depth. Purdue- 4 Senior starters and possibly (hopefully) the fifth, Carsen Edwards too. Ohio State loses it's 2 best players (Bates-Diop & Tate) plus Williams and Dakich. Michigan made a nice tourney run....against weak teams. Not their fault, but lets not pretend they were really an elite team. Without Moritz they are very average. Long story short, most teams look to take a step back. I propose IU (with Romeo) swoop into the vacuum and save the day!
-
They are high if they think PeeEww will be a top 25 team next year. Losing 4 Senior starters is not a recipe for success. WIth Edwards, Haarms and their recent Grad Transfer, I' expect they'll be competitive and probably top half of a weak B1G. Nationally ranked? Pffft, no way.

Who's Declaring/Transferring Around NCAA 2018

Shhhhhhh, what you meant to say was "The NBA LOVES crafty, under-sized post players with average athleticism hire an agent ASAP", right? -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Hardwood83 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
"ODU confirmed Wednesday that Porter, a 6-foot-10 center who averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds as a junior, has been granted his release. On track to graduate in May, Porter would be eligible to play immediately." -

Too bad he was so resistant to redshirting, he would have really benefited and saved that year of eligibility. -
More than one way to skin that cat though- UNC and Gonazaga were big teams last year. Seemed like Carolina had 5 guys 6'10"+ a couple years ago too. I do agree about Nova though, I love the way they develop players. You take a 5* if it makes sense for your team any given year, but tough to build anything consistent with that model- just ask Cal. Even Dook underachieved with their 32 lottery picks this year. Mercenaries gonna mercenary.

Well said. Crean got fired for not consistently winning games. That is why a coach is SUPPOSED to get fired. Not for cheating & having an out of control program (Sampson) or being a royal D-bag whose winning tailed off (Knight.) Crean ran a clean program and won a couple of Conference titles. Who cares if he tugged on his pants, chugged diet coke or rambled about deflections. The point is to win without completely selling your soul. He couldn't do that so he got fired. I like Archie's approach so far and am pretty confident he'll succeed. But if he doesn't win games will anyone really care that he's "no non-sense" or a "straight shooter"? Will recruiting "Indiana first" matter with mediocre results? No. Gotta win- you can be a weirdo or a jerk or a whatever, but you better win.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Hardwood83 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
No kidding! He's a very good coach, but top 10 money!?! Has he even won his conference? I also just realized that TC is getting the same as Archie now. I'm sure that's a coincidence! -

A lot of people have said he should go out for football, but the dude should go out for football. A very least put him to rush the punter and block field goals! -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers

He should have Red-shirted. Perfect candidate for it, could have improved his understanding and physique while saving a year of eligibility to contribute later. Hope he has the fire in his belly, but gotta wonder. -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Hardwood83 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree. that will be a solid team, plus the B1G will still suck, IMO. MSU will be worse (maybe a lot), PeeEww will be way down, Ohio St will drop off, Michigan loses 2 of their best 3 players. A lot of opportunity to move up. Nebraska, Maryland, Iowa and Penn St will probably be better, but none are scary. -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Hardwood83 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Of course that is the bottom line. If IU wins with 3 midgets, a mime and a donkey, I'll get on board. But since we're just arguing about what we "want", my vote is for big guys. I don't expect Hakeem Olajuwon, nor do I want to be PeeEww with their freakish monstrosities. But I like a genuine Center. I understand what the trends are in basketball. I get that the Warriors are super-cool. I don't care, I want a guy that is minimum 6'9" with at least a couple of post moves, can block a few shots, rebound and defend other post players. Davis is slow on the perimeter, but otherwise mostly fits that bill. Remember, he had some very solid games early in the year before fading a bit and getting hurt. Forrester might work out too, but Thompson looks like a prototypical PF to me. Juwon creates mismatches at the 5 offensively, but also is susceptible to foul trouble on D down low.
