You're not wrong. He is great at getting attention and creating hype. Results though??? Does anyone believe his routine is sustainable? I predict he's got 2, maybe 3 more season at CU before he's gone.

Do you see getting Haralson as a + or - for Mullins recruitment? -
(2025) - PF Eric Reibe to UConn
Hardwood83 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'd love for IU to get him (just like woulda loved Moreno) but not a "must" imo. A center is likely the best position to get in the portal. Let them develop through that awkward phase somewhere else for a season or 2 and then reap the rewards. I wouldn't necessarily want to sign 3 transfer bigs, like this year, all the time, but make sense to shop for more court-ready players. Best case scenario would be sign Reibe and a veteran post from the portal to start in front of him for at least a year. -

For this season? The IU quartet for sure. I'm not a proponent of freshman big men starting. It has worked, but not usually, and I think Ballo is more what IU needs from a post this year over Queen's skills. I'd take an experienced Rice over a FR Fland too. I'm not as excited about Carlyle as most, but hopefully he proves me wrong. Since I doubt any of those 3 freshman are 1 & done, longer term looks stronger there, but what passes for college basketball now is a "live for today" system, getting, developing, keeping players is in the past. -
Have to agree. The first time I had COVID I could barely walk up the stairs. Running 200m? Impossible, for me at least. Hoping the US will manage to win more gold than China. USA! USA! USA!

Interesting break down of how far BIG football teams have to travel for this season: Link IU has the least (4895miles) UCLA the most (22,048 miles!) Racking up the frequent flier miles in Westwood.

Interesting. Any chance he sits a year and backs up Morneo the next season, while pursuing a Master's in.....something? ETA- just saw he's a 7ft engineering grad, good thing PU doesn't have anymore schollies, they'd be all over him! -
Alondes Williams SAVAGE dunk @ 12 sec mark...oh and Kelel Ware was nearby too :) Video link

(2025)- Trent Sisley to INDIANA

Add Tiller for the Grand Slam! -
That is interesting...but I am confused by what "Boosted by "a major six-figure commitment" from the Brauns, the university green-lit the temporary stadium in early April." means? The Football coach had to contribute a few hundred grand to the cost of the temporary stadium while the university spent $800million on the renovation? That can't be right, is it? ETA- yep, confirmed later in the article. That sounds bizarre to me. I wish the Big Ten woulda kicked Northwestern out years ago, not because of this, they just belong in the MAC.

I didn't actually state them getting paid was the issue, although I don't like that either. I love college basketball. I assume you do to. So why would you want it fundamentally changed in every way? On this trajectory NCAA basketball will be completely unrecognizable in a few years. Are you cool with that? Big picture, why should state academic institutions provide professional sports entertainment? Is that furthering their mission & purpose? We can all agree NBA players are more skilled and athletically superior to college players, right? So why not just watch the NBA for pro basketball? If a kid wants to play pro basketball? Great, then do it, but amatuer sports can still exist. Changes need to be made to protect college sports, not bastardize them into a minor league caricature of a once great sport. The NCAA is stupid and corrupt, so fix it, don't change college basketball into the CBA.

I don't agree/support the "employee" classification, but if that is the result then players should get treated like employees, in all aspects. So if you have a bad year? Fired/demoted. Also, they should be open to all manner of criticism and scrutiny. Wanna be a pro-athelete? Then you get treated like a pro athlete. Unionization is a bridge too far for me though. Once they demand double pay to play on holidays or strike to get a bigger share of the Adidas contract, I'll focus my time & attention elsewhere. There are already pro sports I mostly ignore.

Speaking of wasted picks: Link "LeBron James 'has turned Bronny into the Make-A-Wish kid' by getting his son in at the Lakers, claims Jason Whitlock" Ouch that stings because it's true. Didn't start for a bad team, had mediocre production and a heart condition = guaranteed contract? "As a freshman, the former Sierra Canyon star played in 25 games and made six starts for the Trojans. Bronny averaged only 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists as his team finished with a 15-18 record, placing ninth in the Pac-12."

It's stupid, like most of the direction of college sports in the last several years. This is just adding more 'content' to pad the run time. Like those annoying youtube videos where they spend 10mins telling you what they are gonna say, take 30 secs to say it, then spend another 10mins telling you what they just said. Empty filler that damages the product. The point is no longer to crown the best team, or any semblance of that, the point is to provide as much TV time as possible in mid-March.

I'm fine with giving it a try since: A) What IU football has been doing since forever, obviously hasn't worked and B) going out and stocking up on 4 & 5 star guys isn't realistic. It's not like he's gonna hurt the brand or break the traditions of IUFB. Go all mad scientist and try something- anything - to change the trajectory of the program.

2024 (F) Kanon Catchings and Whatever
Hardwood83 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree with the second part for sure. Problem is I'm not sure that is realistic going forward. Purdue was the only team in the "conference" not to bring in a transfer this off-season. Meaning the other 94% of the B1G did. Continuity is gonna be a rarity, I'm afraid. -

They can go back to the same style, but not necessarily the same results. They've had hulking dorks there forever, but Edey was the most capable and the rest of the team was built to compliment him. I don't think it will be plug n play with anyone else. -

Hmmm, can't find any as high as #2, but according to this link they rank from 10th (including Andy Katz) to 18th. Guess Catchings is gonna miss out on an epic season in East Berlin. -
(2025) - PG Jalen Haralson to Notre Dame

He looks great and would love IU to sign him, but he doesn't feel like and Indiana guy to me. Seems like the sort to go to the current hottest school. Hope I'm wrong. -

Wait, wut?! Choosing Purdoo at #2 in conference is wildly optimistic, but in the NATION? That is silly. -
You might have a point, but how much impact has your champion's mentality had on IU's results over the last 30yrs? Same as mine, none.
-
I don't care about the institution formerly known as 'college basketball' anymore. Clearly none of the decision makers do, so why should I? I want IU to win and Hurley's presence makes that harder.
-
I don't blame him, but was hoping he'd go.
-
All just speculation, but Belein came pretty close to a NC a couple times at Michigan. I'd sure like to have seen it play out at IU.

Couple of thoughts- there are a number of really terrible human beings on that list, just total POS. Second, if those are the top 50 (not arguing either way) then the talent pool has gotten pretty shallow, IMO.
