But this isn't the typical dead man walking scenario. Woodson has announced he's "retiring." However, I get not over-shadowing the season. IF Stevens were coming (I am quite skeptical) there is no advantage to him to announce immediately.

I do have a sincere question for discussion. We’ve been so engrossed with “IF” Stevens will be the coach, not much thought seems to have gone into “should” he be the coach. It’s just been axiomatic that ‘of course Brad is the best coach alive!’, but…. Is he? He hasn’t coached in the NCAA in over 10yrs. Pre conference merger mania, pre NIL, pre transfer portal. It’s a whole new world from his quaint Horizon league days at Butler community college. He hasn’t even coached at all in the last four years. He won in the NBA, but never made the finals, let alone won them. Clearly, he’s a sharp guy that knows a ton about basketball, does that translate to the best possible option for IUBB?

That's where I am. Drew's had more sustained success than Brad Stevens (since NBA experience is meaningless in NCAA as we've seen) and he won a NC at BAYLOR. There are some nitpicks about his resume for sure and he wouldn't be my first choice, but objectively speaking, he's a good hire. Considering the moronic choices IU has made 3 of the last 4 times, possibly a great one.

Wow, forgot about JG, excellent point! I think a young lady would be safe in a parked car with any of the 3 since they are so clumsy & awkward they'd drop second base and never be able unzip, unsnap or open anything.

True, but as GI Joe taught us "knowing is half the battle." Recognizing the retarded mistakes IU has made in the recent past so as not to repeat them. The easiest route (Davis) is seldom the right choice. Past behavior IS a good indication of future behavior (Sampson.) Personality & fit are essential (Miller.) Hiring your incompetent buddy is sure to fail (Woodson.) There are several aspects, but ultimately it's not that complicated. Create a concise list of criteria, identify the best coach that meets them, and hire him. If your 1st choice refuses, then move to the next one.

I will frigging lose my mind if IU hires that POS. I hate him with the white-hot passion of a thousand suns, and that is only half of what he deserves. On a detestable scale Pitino falls somewhere below ISIS and above cancer....but it's close. I could go on, but you get the idea.

I don't know who else there is. Just because someone isn't on our list, doesn't mean they aren't the best option. May seems like a good fit. The Iowa St guy looks pretty attractive and I personally think the Stevens talk is a silly distraction, but clearly am in the minority. But I want IU to hire the best candidate, not the most popular or obvious. Clearly that's not that easy since they've failed 3.5 out of the last 4 times (I'll give partial credit for TC.) There is a month left in the regular season, so I'm not ready to panic hire yet.

Why settle? If Cronin is the best option, sure, but does anyone really believe that he is? Well, now that I think about it we had many pages of BS about BS, so maybe we are that gullible. Hire the best guy you can find. Spoiler alert: Brad Stevens doesn't want the job, so it's not him.

Objectively, Stevens doesn't look realistic. He stepped down from coaching in the NBA. College landscape is completely different than his experience. Already said 'no' once, not that long ago. Works for reigning NBA champions. IU fans want Brad, no indication that feeling is mutual.

Yeah, I guess his record is better than I remembered, I wouldn't call that 'crushing it.' Improvement for IU obviously, but I'm not convinced he's the best option on the court. Off the court is another issue.

I don't want Beard because I think there are better options. Also, society is a lot different now than in the 70-90's. Most of RMK's antics wouldn't go over nowdays either. IU should get the best HC available, if that is Beard, ok, but I sure hope not.

I want to proactively put all my "disapproves" on Pitino. I know it's very unlikely, but if somehow he was hired, I would actively cheer against IUBB. He is a flaming POS.

Same thing I posted on TDH, Hire the best coach you can. Who cares about IU ties, style, etc. Swing for the fences and get the best guy who'll take the job.  Having said that, most of them on this list would be an improvement over the last 10yrs. I'd prefer someone that can make IU elite and is young enough to hang around for a while, but just a competent coach for the next 5yrs would be refreshing. Someone that can move us from 'disgraceful embarrassment' to 'competetive' That is how far we've fallen,
