There are other players in the portal that can help IU next year. As exciting as MM? No, but adding some scoring punch at the 2 & 3 is still a need, so you gotta keep going.

I just reviewed KU's roster (yes, I am late to this party) Dickinson is now the only center they have and only 2 other scholarship players over 6'6" = Fr M. Adams SF and Jr KJ Adams SF. No PF's either. If Mgbako is willing to guard the 4 there is definitely an opening there. Sure looks like a lot of 3 & 4 guard line-ups in their future, so a "4 out" offense is easy to see too. Only 12 scholarships available due to "self-imposed sanctions" from the NCAA investigation.

Not a fan of inner-conference transfers, wish the Big Ten would do something similar or even stricter.

I don't find that a very impressive list. After JHS and Murray none of those guys seem draft worthy to me. I can see Hawkins catching on with a NBA team, but not sure about getting drafted.....thoughts?

I get St. John's as close to home and a new high-profile (although sleazy) coach. I get KU since they are a top level program and likely competing for a NC next year. I get IU since, well you know. So choosing any of those is understandable. Louisville? They have nothing to offer. He's a good player and fills a real need for IU but If he goes there that is an indictment of him and I won't feel bad.

This makes sense to me, the window is so much smaller too- some of these guys enter and commit within a week or 2. Not a lot of time to develop sources. Dickinson was higher profile and longer than many of these transfers and I don't think anyone got a strong indication it was KU until the last 24hrs, right? Originally was Maryland, then was stong UK lean....all just chatter. I'm glad Mgbako is keeping it quiet. The attention whores get tiresome.

There is another alternative. All of these fundamental changes to the 'product' (if you support them or not) could turn-off a portion of the fan-base. I would love to have organizations bidding 7 figures for my services, so I can't blame Dickinson or anyone else.....but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching that process play out over and over again. Outside March NCAA basketball is a niche sport, at best so not clear how a new paradigm plays out. "That's the way it is" doesn't mean that it's the best thing. Anyway back to Mgbako, I gotta feel like IU has a good shot here, but not confident we'll beat out KU, all things being equal. They tend to get their share and IU hasn't beaten out many big boys head to head for a long time.

If Woodson makes a splash at the 2 OR 3, IU should be reasonably well-rounded and competitive, solid tourney team. If he makes a splash at the 2 AND 3? Time for completely unrealistic expectations and ridiculous hype!
