(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I still have some reservations about IU for next season too. BUT many other teams have 3 FIVE stars starting in the frontcourt and Goodman would be getting callouses on his knees slobbering over them. -

Nice to get the win. A Conference championship woulda been even cooler! -

I love these gray pin-striped road jerseys with the script "Indiana". I'd buy one, but just spent 15+ mins looking online and can't find them anywhere. :( -

Added bonus- not that far from home for him too. I like the way you think. -
Caleb Love - UNC Transfer to Arizona
Hardwood83 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
That is my assessment, everyone seems to blame Davis for UNC's underperformance, but I think that Love has tanked a couple talented teams because he's selfish. 2 seasons ago UNC scuffled through most of the schedule, then he got hot at the end of the year and took them to NC game. This past year they return to underperforming with a talented team, and miss the NCAA's. All the while Love continues hoisting shots (15 per game this past season) despite being a career 36% FG shooter and 31.7% 3pt shooter. So I guess it is Davis' fault, he shoulda benched Love. He seems like a punk to me and I don't like anything about him. I guess best case scenario Love is a crappy, crappy shooter (that still took 7.5 3's a game) but has enough talent to get hot and win a game for you--when he's not losing them. Worst case? his selfish play and attitude derail a talented young team and ruin the season. He's Tamar Bates with a quicker first step. Don't believe me? Their per 40mins are pretty close. TL/DR summary: everyone remembers he got UNC to the NC game. No one recalls that he's often below average the other 2.5 seasons. -

Strong disagree. Taking Love is not a risk, it's a guarantee, to wreck your team. He's a cancer- DO NOT WANT!! -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This is absolutely true. No one outside of Indiana thinks about, notices or cares about Purdue at all. At all. They are the invisible man of college athletics. Vanilla wallflower that gets good grades, but never invited to the parties because know one knows they exist. -
Yep, Kevin Kugler is pretty pro-IU too, I don't need or expect that, but is a welcome change from some other commentators..... Can't wait for all things COVID to be a distant memory!

Who fills the last scholarship?

Exactly. If he were gonna start I could see some concern, but seems he's looking at 8-10 mins a game. I think he'll be fine. -
Team Outlook and Class Balance Going Forward
Hardwood83 replied to HoosierHoopster's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Agreed. For instance, my inclination is if your #12 or 13 guy is a Freshman, then you should red-shirt him. Not sure that makes sense anymore. First, ain't nobody got time for that. Second, You are likely just saving a year of eligibility for some other program when he inevetibly transfers. Seems like every year will be rebuild going forward, so class balance is mostly a thing of the past. -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Absolutely true, but I have no doubt the teams that have cheated, still will. The problem wasn't the rules were unfair before NIL, its that they want a result and are willing to steal it from other teams that can't or won't do what they are doing. Cheating is simply stealing (recruits, wins, prestige, ultimately money) from everyone that plays by the rules. They try to spin it like "they care more about winning" but just like any thief, they want the results without paying full price. Whether it's Alabama football, Kentucky basketball, East German gymnasts, Chinese corporate spies, or some guy cheating in a friendly card game in his basement, it's all the same, other than the stakes. What you do is who you are, in every part of life. -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You're not wrong. When Al Durham was starting a few yrs ago I would often think "he should be the 9th or 10th man on a legit IU roster" Great guy, just not who you want playing 30+ mins/game. Somewhat similar with Trey, I think he is perfect to come in for 4-5min bursts a few times a game. Definitely want him in the rotation, but more like 18-20 mins instead of 28mins like last year. But gotta have someone to earn those minutes over him first, though. -

Sheesh, we're bending PU over the way Maryland bent us over! Take care of business and sweep 'em out of town. -
Who fills the last scholarship?

Do we know if he or IU has shown interest in the other? I was kinda dialed in on MM, so likely missed any other news. -

No insider intel here either, but I would advocate for doing whatever makes the team better for this upcoming season without too much concern for down the road. IU very possibly could lose 5-7 players again so roster management is gonna be an annual scramble. Not saying Sellers is "the" guy, but whoever brings something else to the table is fine with me. Of course, with MM onboard IU can be more choosy about the last opening so you might be right about being selective. -
Who fills the last scholarship?
Hardwood83 replied to Sardinefarts1991's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Agreed and there is nothing unusual or wrong with that. In the last several years we've been conditioned to think Freshman should immediately contribute or they are failures. However, even in the year-around specialized training & high-caliber AAU/Prep School age we live that is still quite rare. +95% kids need some time to develop. This is why the portal is such a revelation, it's not all projection, there is a body of work to evaluate. -
Who fills the last scholarship?
Hardwood83 replied to Sardinefarts1991's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I know Sellers from Ball St has been mentioned in the other thread. I haven't seen any full games but his stats look legit- very capable 3pt shooter- and in video clips he appears reasonably athletic. What's the scoop on him? -

Hardwood83 replied to Sardinefarts1991's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I have no idea who the best fit for the final position is, but as I've said before- in agreement with you and others- TG is a perfect fit for '6th man.' So I'd like to see a solid all around SG join the team. I think that leaves no obvious holes in this roster, assuming everyone is as advertised. XJ/ Cupps ? / Galloway MM / Banks Reneau / Walker Ware / Sparks That is some legit depth. Defense is a bit of an unknown, but a lot to like there. -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
There are other players in the portal that can help IU next year. As exciting as MM? No, but adding some scoring punch at the 2 & 3 is still a need, so you gotta keep going. -

Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Serious question, what good is it for a journalist to "know" something, if he can't share it with his audience? Personal enrichment? Saying "I already knew that" after news is public is meaningless. -

Hard to fit more wrong into less space than this. Impressive! I bet MM loves ketchup. -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I just reviewed KU's roster (yes, I am late to this party) Dickinson is now the only center they have and only 2 other scholarship players over 6'6" = Fr M. Adams SF and Jr KJ Adams SF. No PF's either. If Mgbako is willing to guard the 4 there is definitely an opening there. Sure looks like a lot of 3 & 4 guard line-ups in their future, so a "4 out" offense is easy to see too. Only 12 scholarships available due to "self-imposed sanctions" from the NCAA investigation. -
Not a fan of inner-conference transfers, wish the Big Ten would do something similar or even stricter.
-
Shows how little I get the NBA anymore, especially Howard. He doesn't impress me at all. Sensanbaugh I can buy though. Hope you are right about TJD and Edey!
-
From ITH 11 B1G players: Prospects invited from the Big Ten include Kobe Bufkin (Michigan), Zach Edey (Purdue), Coleman Hawkins (Illinois), Hood-Schifino, Jett Howard (Michigan), Jackson-Davis, Seth Lundy (Penn State), Kris Murray (Iowa), Jalen Pickett (Penn State), Brice Sensabaugh (Ohio State) and Terrence Shannon Jr. (Illinois). I don't find that a very impressive list. After JHS and Murray none of those guys seem draft worthy to me. I can see Hawkins catching on with a NBA team, but not sure about getting drafted.....thoughts?
