What if IU were to add both? Hey, a guy can dream! -

This makes sense to me, the window is so much smaller too- some of these guys enter and commit within a week or 2. Not a lot of time to develop sources. Dickinson was higher profile and longer than many of these transfers and I don't think anyone got a strong indication it was KU until the last 24hrs, right? Originally was Maryland, then was stong UK lean....all just chatter. I'm glad Mgbako is keeping it quiet. The attention whores get tiresome. -

I've read this numerous times. What did they 'do''? -

Since this has turned into the NIL thread, does anyone know the tax status of NIL? I assume that donating $$ directly to the school is deductible, but money to whatever NIL bucket is not? -

There is another alternative. All of these fundamental changes to the 'product' (if you support them or not) could turn-off a portion of the fan-base. I would love to have organizations bidding 7 figures for my services, so I can't blame Dickinson or anyone else.....but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy watching that process play out over and over again. Outside March NCAA basketball is a niche sport, at best so not clear how a new paradigm plays out. "That's the way it is" doesn't mean that it's the best thing. Anyway back to Mgbako, I gotta feel like IU has a good shot here, but not confident we'll beat out KU, all things being equal. They tend to get their share and IU hasn't beaten out many big boys head to head for a long time. -
Villanova. Screw MD, UK & KU!

2023 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

Are the de-commitments way up this year? Seems that has been fairly rare in the past and there are a ton this season. Result of the portal mania? -
6'9" PF Anthony Walker TO INDIANA
Hardwood83 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
If Woodson makes a splash at the 2 OR 3, IU should be reasonably well-rounded and competitive, solid tourney team. If he makes a splash at the 2 AND 3? Time for completely unrealistic expectations and ridiculous hype! -

Yes! or even 10, keep Nebraska or Penn St and send Northwestern to the MAC where they belong.

Wellllll, Reneau's love affair with the personal foul might have something to say about that! I agree with your over-arching point though, he appears to fill a hole in the roster. Most people want the gaping holes on the wing filled first (me included) but that doesn't mean this one isn't still needed.
-
That isn't great, but there was a lot of talk about Ledlum and IU too.......
-
Have to be an unbelievably smarmy, arrogant bastard to fill those shoes!
-
Agree with your point, but wow is that depressing.

I'm interested in hearing about your African and Panamanian experiences. Any deployments too, if you are willing. So Korea official US business or tourism? (Only 40 states and 2 continents here.)

Wife & I spent 5 days there last Feb. Tons of history and charm, one of my favorite places now.

Indiana Players Now In The Portal
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I wasn't advocating for it, necessarily. However, to answer your question: " Because he's a back-up frontcourt player (which is not a great need) that is already familiar with the program and IU isn't likely to do a lot better in the portal." IMO, IU's prospects are resting on adding a couple strong Wing contributors. The 3rd scholarship isn't likely to move the needle, plus he's only got one more year(?) so not a huge impact. I also doubt he returns, just seems odd that there has been NO chatter about a new destination for him. -
Indiana Players Now In The Portal
Hardwood83 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Is there any chance he returns? It's not too common, but he hasn't burned any bridges as far as I know. -
I agree that a 3 guard line-up could/has worked, but getting a scoring guard to start ahead of Trey AND getting another Wing is the better plan. I love Galloway, but he's not a scorer and I think IU needs a 'go to' scorer. I don't like the idea of XJ having to look to score first. No one else on the roster is a proven double digit scorer, so I hope to see IU find a 13-15ppg guy to start at guard and allow Galloway to be the 6th man, where I think he excels. Should Davis from Arkansas enter the portal, could be a real nice fit.
-
This is mostly how I see it too- add a 15-16ppg wing scorer and that takes this team from "ehhhh" to "mmmmm" IMO. Add a little more dynamic 2 guard AND that wing, allowing Galloway to be 6th man? Now I think that is a top 3 conference team.

Chris Ledlum - Harvard Transfer to Tennessee -- Wait, Make That St. John's
Hardwood83 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Agreed. I think Ledlum is a good player that woulda helped IU and sorry to have missed him. BUT, I don't think his skillset fills the greatest need for this roster. Knecht on the other hand? I think he is EXACTLY the type of player IU needs. I'm not as discouraged as some. Getting an upgrade at the #2 and/or #3 is still very doable. -
He's interesting. SEC Academic Honor roll 3x (kinda like being the tallest midget, but still!) All SEC defensive team, Solid 3pt shooter (35%) Experienced in multiple NCAA runs. A lot to like here.
-
Sadly, this is true, The draft system rewards potential, not production. I don't think he is NBA All-Star material (in any generation) and likely would struggle on defense.... but hard to believe he couldn't get some buckets and draw some fouls too. Hopefully a year from now will be playing in Greece or somewhere.

Sounds like he'd be a good off the bench change-up for Reneau at the 4, possibly? Johnson- Cupps ? - Galloway Ledlum? - Banks Reneau- Groves? Ware- Sparks
