His stats: 11.5ppg, 2.7reb, 2.7ast, 22.8% TO rate, 44% FG, 32% 3P Not awful for a freshman, but doesn't scream "improvement" to me either. Again, not ripping the kid, just unclear what he offers that I missed. Those stats indicate an average shooter at best, that turns the ball over a fair amount. Never watched him though, maybe he oozes potential?

Sincere question, what am I missing about Carlyle from Stanford? Several comments along the lines of he "improves IU immediately", but looks very pedestrian to me. Not a great 3pt shooter for certain.

Maybe, but the current portal list is pretty underwhelming so far too. Of the names linked to IU who do you even want? Small from OSU or maybe the PG from Penn are interesting, other than that looks like a lot of depth guys. I'm really hoping for a much higher level of talent.

I think there is a good reason not to count on him. He hasn't played for 2 seasons and never in college. Any freshman has something to prove and Newton has way more than typical. I'm rooting for him, but depending on him to be a contributor in 24-25 is coaching malpractice, imo.

Hmmm. 7 footer with 2yrs of eligibility left. 14ppg/10reb/1.5blk/1stl in 31mpg in the Ivy league.Also shot 2.5 3pt per game and made 34%. Not incredible, but interesting. Stats

I'm comfortable saying the VAST majority will take the wins and not worry too much about the style or method.

That is the way it should be. Sadly, I have checked out on IUBB this season. The last game I watched live was Rutgers until halftime, then Minnesota and OSU on delay after seeing the result. Once the underperforming and bad losses starting puling up, I just quit. I stopped watching, & reading about IU. This is my first post here since sometime in January, I think. I did watch the MD game on DVR last night when I saw they won. And of course I am thrilled IU won and hope they win out through the FF to the NC! ....but truthfully I am pretty apathetic at the moment. I didn't like the Woodson hire, but don't necessarily want him fired, I just want them to consistently play hard & smart for a whole season. That hasn't happened in long, long time. Anyway, that is my Eeyore routine.

What about defense? Below/at/above average? I get he's not a rim-protector, but good fundamentals? Rebounding? ETA- just saw Demo's post above, so sounds like he is a willing and capable defender. Good feet on a big is enticing.

I appreciate the perspective. If IU pulls a similar finish this season Woodson should be coach of the year. My heart says "it could happen!" but my eyes tell me this is a lower half Big ten, NIT team. They are really bad at a lot of things and really good at very few. What remaining road games can they win? Maybe Maryland? Maybe.

IU going for the trifecta of 'how to lose at basketball.' TO's, missed FT's and poor rebounding. Also the bonus of poor shooting. Rutgers is not good. SIGH, it's so tiresome.

Would be nice to see MM have a big game for his 'homecoming.'

I don't like the expanded playoff, except maybe to 6 teams max. There is no reason the #9 or #12 team in the country deserve a shot at the title. Cheapens the regular season. 2nd tier of teams should shut up and go to the Outback Bowl. But if the result is less of the insuferable SEC winning titles, I'll take it.

I thought UW missing on that wide-open 4th down was a killer, but they could tie it right off starting the 3rd. I still think Mich wins, but hopefully not a run away.

Bring in at least one great (not good) shooter every class. Really is shameful that Kennesaw St has 2-3 better shooters than IU.

That seems likely, but let's hope he still gets it turned around this season. For his sake and the teams. Plus there is no guarantee we'll get anyone better based on this past year's portal efforts.

Uhhh, he's a game manager at this point with 0 TO's in 26 mins tonight. Rest of the team had 18. They don't need him to score much. Obviously taking a couple open 3's a game is a good idea, but I disagree he's a huge detriment.
