Our D has been really good tonight. Not to take anything from our effort tonight but Maryland’s perimeter deficiencies (averaging 5 threes a game and only shooting them at a 23% clip) helped mask some of the defensive issues we have had.

At the half out rebounding them 24-16 We have 10 assist vs only 3 TO 48.5% from the field and 3-6 from the three.

UNC hit paydirt getting Ingram in the transfer portal. We would be top 15 with him on our roster.

He does have a pair but since Mallory all 6 of our coaches have only lasted 2-7 seasons. Cig will either be a hero for getting a dormant P5 program going, and making a lot of cash, or he will fail after 7 years or so, and make a lot of cash, and be 70 years old so he won’t be concerned about his future career path. At his age it’s really a no lose proposition for him. I can hear him telling his wife “honey I was getting ready to retire in a couple of years but IU wants to give me 20-25 million over the next 5 years or so”. Mrs Cig (Virginia Slim?) would probably say hell yea!

Past history says we will indeed need buyout cash in another 4-5 years.

It is a start but it’s crazy how little our 3mm is these days. That being said, although we are no where near the 13+mm Day said he needs for OSU, it really doesn’t matter as we didn’t get those type of rosters prior to NIL. A&M, Georgia, Texas, Bama, OSU, UM etc will continue to battle ($$$) for the guys they have always fought over. We just need enough cash to win recruiting battles against PU/MD/MSU/NW/MN/GaTech/Wake/IL/Rutgers/BC/Duke/MAC schools, etc etc

They have played 6 games. He started the first two, came off the bench the next two and has started the last two (which makes me think he will start vs IU.). He plays just under 20 minutes per game, is averaging 5.8 points a game, shooting 46% from the field, 14% from the three (1-7), and in 6 games has a total of 5 assists vs 9 turnovers.

On a postgame podcast Todd Leary said he saw Newton in an air cast not too long ago which made him think he won’t play at all this year. I have no idea if he is right but he has been around enough basketball, and hoops injuries, to make me think Newton probably won’t contribute this year.

Take away Fitzgerald’s baggage. After years of establishing his program (and I was big fan) in the very weak West division he won one conference game in three of his last four seasons. 1-8 in 3/4 last years. Based on that maybe we should rehire Allen…..LOL.

Due to Wares freshman year in Oregon I was a little skeptical reading some of the more optimistic posts about what he would do here but so far he has exceeded even the most optimistic posts. We will see how he does against the rigors of the BT big men and style of play. I’m not saying he won’t succeed but just saying that what he faces on the court is about to change rather dramatically.

Our 4/5 star bigs (Ware, MM, Malik) played well. Unfortunately we are not exceptionally talented at the 1 or 2.

I’d flip that to “offer the right amount and get the right coach”. To be a college athlete in a revenue generating sport these days!!!! Sorsby is only a freshman and had a decent, not great, season as a QB and is looking at a half a million.

The Maryland game is HUGE in regards to our success/setting the tone in the Big Ten. Maryland hasn’t looked good, it’s a home game, I’m sure Queen will be watching how we repeatedly get the ball into the bigs etc etc. Can’t wait.
