IUFB vs Charlotte - Saturday, 09.21.24 @ Noon on BTN

Probably dreaming but hope the fans stick around for at least the 3rd. Finishing the half has been one of the few poor aspects of this season. GREAT to see TD, defensive stand, TD in the last 5 minutes of this half. -

Potential for a perfect 14-0 last 5 minutes of the half -

On second thought we might need Rourke to lead a final game winning two minute drive. I still think we will win by 21+ but man o man. -

I’d say rather poor. Have now converted 5 straight 3rd downs!!!!!!! Call me surprised -

This time last year we were watching a 165 pounder running up the middle and providing pass protection. -

I didn’t expect Charlotte to get a single drive like that today. Hopefully we tighten things up. -

When I watch a game and am wondering if it’s a c-cup or a d-cup I’m not normally looking at the opposing coach. -

I know it’s odd but for the first time ever I didn’t mind the FG simply because it gave another rep for our FG kicker prior to BT. It was only our 2nd FG of the season. But…..from this point until the end of the game all TD’s -

I hope we don’t see him in the second half. -

Already can’t wait to see him and the team against MD. I LOVED seeing us win at UCLA but will not be surprised to see them finish 17th or 18th in the BT. Looking forward to seeing us against the MD and NB types of teams. -

It’s frequently either too hot, too cold, too rainy, too early, too windy, too late, too much traffic, Friday isn’t a good day, Saturday isn’t a good day etc etc etc. EDIT: I will, however, add another reason. We have five more home games and I can see travelers, even from Indy, saving their coin for BT games rather than watching a crappy Charlotte game. Scheduling 100% sure wins is a double edged sword when it comes to attendance. -

Hope we take care of business in a dominating way and then pack the house vs MD next week. I know it’s still 5 minutes from kickoff but the camera angles look like there can’t be more than 25k in attendance. -
I listened to the Ballo, Tucker and Rice interviews and they all seem like really great guys. Also heard MR’s interview and it was GREAT to hear him talk about practicing small ball with him at the 5. Should be (better be..LOL) an exciting/successful season.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Ask any casual, or serious, college basketball fan if their “bucket list” of arenas to visit has the Jersey F’ng Mikes dump or Welsh-Ryan above the Hall. It would be laughable if he only ranked us 7th in the NATION but 7th in the BT????? Katz needs to put down his crack pipe. I think this is his cry for help and sincerely hope he receives the appropriate care he obviously needs.

It’s funny but we stayed 2 extra days and on Sunday we were at Manhattan Beach and Hermosa all day. As you know they are really nice beaches and beach towns only 20 minutes or so from LAX with each having a little different vibe (Manhattan a little more upscale and Hermosa a bit more laid back). It just so happened that on Sunday there was a large stage on the sand at Hermosa beach with a music festival. Good time. We checked out Newport Beach/OC on Monday.

My fear was spending the coin only to witness an at-Iowa debacle (our opener a few years ago in which we were out of the game in the first quarter). The big win certainly made the game and night in Pasadena a lot more fun as the IU fans were really pumped/joyous. We are a fan base desperate for a good team and I think this is going to be a great year. On a side note, If I was the BT commissioner I would declare UCLA and IU natural rivals so I could go back every other year….LOL. Rose Bowl or West Laffy…hmmm.

Went to the UCLA game with three guys from our IU days and it was the best time I have had at a sporting event in years. Total multi-day blast. We all know how the game went but I want to add a shout out to the IU alumni association for putting on the tailgate. We arrived at the 2:00 tailgate early (1:40) after traveling the 1.5 miles from Old Town Pasadena. The neighborhood on the way to the Rose Bowl/tailgate has winding streets with well tended really nice ($$) homes, plenty of green space and beautiful mountains in the background. Awesome setting. The tailgate, at a golf course adjacent to the Rose Bowl, was $30 a person and included beer, wine, water, sodas, burgers/dogs/salad/fruit/chips/dessert (cash bar for quality hard liquor, Knob Creek etc) We were allowed to grab a beer 20 minutes before the official start time and what do you know….24 oz beers with IU football koozies . Grade A+. They had round “stand up” tables, scattered around, a huge tent with tons of tables for 8, a couple of food stations and multiple bars with very short lines. I talked to a woman associated with the alumni association and she said that in the early planning stages they guessed the event might have 400-500 people but the final tally was over 1,100. The manner in which they took care of the crowd was also an A+. The “Traveling Hoosiers” contingent was also an A+. I kind of thought we would meet primarily California alums at the tailgate but we spoke to a number of attendee’s, including Dean Garrett, that came from IN, FL, CO, TX, MN, MI, KY, NY, AZ, PA etc etc. Really impressive. Fish and Jim Coyle estimated that there were 6-8k Hoosiers at the game. I would lean towards the 8k number as two end zone corners were dominated by IU fans and we also overran the visitors side to roughly the 40 yard line. The cheering for IU completed passes etc, and booing on the sack and targeting calls, was very loud. During the game and after I received unsolicited comments from UCLA fans that they couldn’t believe how well we traveled. At kick-off overall attendance looked light but midway through the first quarter the UCLA side really filled in. The announced attendance was 47k which I find believable (I had guessed 42k). The Rose Bowl holds 92k for football so both end zones, and other less desirable seats, are wide open/empty when you just have 47k/92k. That night Old Town Pasadena, which has a number of bars and restaurants within a roughly 5 block area, was overrun with Hoosiers in red, candy stripe pants and shorts etc. Must have high-fived/fist bumped over 50+ people. Had some great food, drinks at a handful of places and heard some really good live music (featuring a number of rather buzzed dancing Hoosiers LOL). Sometimes things just align. The buzz from Cig, the tailgate, the dominating victory, the Rose Bowl and Old Town Pasadena setting all combined to equal a great event.

The Old Town section of Pasadena has a bunch of bars. Does anyone know if there is a Friday night, or Saturday noonish, bar that will have an IU contingent? Looking forward to my first game at the Rose Bowl and our 3rd win !! -

It’s interesting/inconsistent that football freshmen can play 4 games ( 1/3 of the season) and not burn their redshirt year while basketball players lose their redshirt if they play one second. -
ESPN has ND 10th in spite of losing at home to 28.5 point underdog NIU…. If IU wore ND uniforms we would probably be a top 15 team..LOL
