Great win. A few of the PROS: JM from three. If he can consistently be a threat from 3 it helps us and the odds of him having a career beyond IU (and, like many of the payers, he seems like a great guy). Rob has stones the size of Texas. The turnover machine improved in the second half. DD. He is providing meaningful minutes and needed size underneath. Good for him as he has really had to battle to get back. I’m am guessing he thought he would be a focal part of the team by now but he has seemingly accepted his role. There are games in which his big frame will be key to winning. Team as a whole does not give up. These grind it out wins are great experience for BT road games and hopefully for March. Nice to watch a defense that we have not seem in some time. CONS: Some might disagree but I do not think the second half means that it is not worrisome that we started out flat for the 5th or so game in a row. Why is that? Half way through the first half we were on pace for 30 turnovers, many of which were unforced. TO’s remain a concern and if not fixed will cost us some games. As mentioned I think DD is providing some decent minutes but our depth is not what we thought it would be until we get some consistency from Smith, McBob, Fitzner, and Green (ie Troy). The last play out of the timeout was a cluster and we ended up with Green dribbling the ball with a couple of seconds left. I was THRILLED Rob made the shot and we won but if Crean would have drawn that up, and the shot was missed, the board would have imploded. Again, glad we won, Rob has big stones, but not exactly a well executed play. Lets keep it going!

Yep. With some crews Baldwin would have fouled out within 6 minutes. It was crazy how he was repeatedly allowed to aggressively create space with his off arm.

Prediction League (Game 12 - Central Arkansas 12/19/18)

The Marquette game was great and raised my expectations. PS...I admire your optimism Sean but shouldn’t you be getting ready for the Baylor game tonight?
-
Yes, and we have a very good chance (I hope) to win. That being said .....it is old seeing us come out flat game after game, having more turnovers than baskets five minutes into games and seeing the other team win most of the effort plays. I don’t get it.
-
Get him going? I have stated in previous games......We do virtually NOTHING to get Romeo open looks or help open driving lanes/angles for him. It is baffling.
-
True but the TO’s have to stop.
-
I have never seen him play but hope he develops to the point of earning an offer. 4.3 GPA, taking 5 AP classes, Bloomington kid, might be best player (in his class) in the state, etc. Anyone have thoughts on Leal vs Galloway? Sort of has the feel of Franklin vs Newman in that it might be worth picking up one of them but not both.

The cynical side of me thinks he should of just ignored that his name was mentioned and taken the money from Arizona. The worthless NCAA won’t do squat and the AZ recruiting train just keeps ticking. They have a cloud over their head but have signed two 5-stars and two 4-stars. Just crazy.

Thoughts on Crean after one and one-third years of Archie?
DChoosier replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Landing Cody and the sweet 16’s extended Crean’s shelf life. The “hard to take” reality is that IU made it to one sweet 16 from the ‘95 through 2011 seasons. One sweet sixteen in 17 seasons! Crean went to three in his last six years. Not a defense of Crean (I repeated his many faults earlier) but I think that might have blinded Freddie. -

Agree that he should have been gone after that NIT season. I am guessing that his contract, and having gone to the sweet 16 the two previous years, saved him (even though the second sweet 16 was an underachievement). -

Many mentions of the Syracuse game which was, to say the least, very disappointing. Crean never did learn how to attack a zone. I have a friend that is a Syracuse alum and before the game he surprised me by saying he was sure they would crush us because we would not be able to handle their zone and that their guards (both 6’6”) would dominate our “midget” (his word) guards (Hulls and Yogi at 6’ and both went totally scoreless). No doubt that not handling the zone is on Crean. Not to defend Crean but it is also not as if Syracuse was Indiana State. They started out the year ranked 9th, spent part of the year ranked 3rd and 4th, and one of those starting 6’6” guards, Michael Carter Williams, was a lottery pick and the NBA rookie of the year. Because of the size of their guards and our inability to handle zones it was one of the worst matchups we could have encountered. After beating us they then held 3rd seed Marquette to 39 points. That being said, many of us (except Fred Glass) definitely tired of his lack of knowing how to attack a zone, the turnovers, pointless weaves, too much dribbling, puzzling substitutions (make three in a row and you get yanked), horrid plays out of time-outs and terrible team defense. I do, however, have some appreciation for him taking over the steaming pile left by Samscum and did admire how he got his totally inferior first year team to play very hard even though they knew they were going to get their butts kicked. 9 years was definitely way too long. -

Yep, no purpose and how can we have multiple deep in the clock second half possessions without Romeo even touching the ball? -
It would really be sweet if NW pulls out the win. Going to try to check out their refurbished stadium when we play there.

I’m not belly aching but rather answering his question “what else do you expect”? My last statement was that it was a positive that we got the road win. What are we supposed to say on a basketball forum? Green had 3 turnovers in three minutes but yippee he was trying. Romeo did not touch the ball much in the second half but maybe it’s great that others got a turn!!! Wow, our uniforms look nice !!! -

Well....To name a few. I would like to see less turnovers. Prior to the game the announcers said we were last in the BT in turnovers. Getting Romeo more involved in the offense would be nice (ie...our offense doing more to get him touches/open). In the second half he did not touch the ball in multiple possessions. Coming out of the gate ready to play. They have started out nearly comatose in four of the last 5 games. Very positive to get a road win but we have a long way to go. Nice to win on the road. Those are never easy. Not sure if we can count on many teams missing 14 or so free throws at home. Don’t understand the offense. In the second half we had multiple possessions that went fairly deep into the clock without Romeo getting a touch. That should not happen. Good to see Rob turn it on. Probably lose without him.
