NCAA MBB Coaching Carousel
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If he wasn’t a manager at IU the upset fans 100% wouldn’t be acting like this right now. Folks are acting like we just lost god incarnate. -

There will always be other good coaches in the conference. It’s only an issue if we don’t have one. -

Woody will just think they’re cheering for him. -

I’m not mad we lost Dusty. He could’ve worked out, and the IU connection was cool, but he’s risky/unproven. I’m just mad we’re stuck with Woodson. -

Well we’re going to find out if Dusty can chop it at this level. -

The sad thing (for us) is that after 1999 and before 2011, they made 10 of 11 tournaments, won 5 conference championships, 4 conference tournaments, made 5 sweet 16s, and 3 elite 8s. Imagine what they’d do after the last 12 years we’ve had if they view their 2000-2010 as a bad period. -

His star is still the same. But (to the extent he’s interested) a first round exit is much better for us than a final four trip would’ve been. It doesn’t matter because our administration has worms for brains, but that’s where it’s coming from. -

They were IU players decades before I was born. To me? Thomas, Buckner, Woodson, etc. are guys actively ruining the college basketball program I care about. That’s all I know them as. Their legacies as players long before my time doesn’t shield them from criticism for the harm they’re causing in the present day. -

Absolutely! No one is going deep into the tournament every year. Upsets happen. Pearl lost today too. I’d be thrilled if we got him despite that because he has a 30 year resume. We know he’ll almost certainly be right back in it next year. We just don’t know with Dusty and I don’t like uncertainty. Unfortunately, it’s certain that Woody is our coach next year. I would much rather have May next year than him. At least May could work. -

I mean, in that situation I’d go with #2. Or maybe Shrewsbury. I wouldn’t love it, but I’d at least have some hope that they’d be able to wield our NIL resources to create an above average program. -

Man they could give the job to @Hornsby at this point and I’d be happy that Woodson’s gone. As for Collins, not really. He’s mediocre at the P5 level, which I rank below good at the mid-major level. He has some restrictions at NU that he wouldn’t have at IU, but he’s had too many just really bad seasons for me. At least the mid-major guy is unknown at the P5 level and could see their success carry over. With that said, if my options were Woodson and Collins, I’m taking Collins every time. -

This is why I was against Dusty (more so against hiring mid-major coaches off one good year). Anything can happen in a single-elimination tournament. He had a great year last season but he’s still a big risk of a hire. We’ll see how he does at Louisville. -

Look at Payton Sparks. MAC freshman of the year. He averaged 13/9 on 59% from the field on a 20-12 Ball State team. Second team all-MAC. He came to IU and was basically unplayable. Some guys can handle the jump in competition while other guys can’t. -

It’s the same as with a proven coach. Someone who has succeeded at the P5 level. Can a player who’s good in the Atlantic Sun come to the Big 10 and succeed too? Certainly. But it’s a big jump. It’s not crazy for people to question whether a 6’1 point guard from the Atlantic Sun is the answer to our guard problems. It’s not like he’s a knockdown 3 point shooter, which this team desperately needs from its guards. If he’s brought in to be an end of rotation guy then sure, that might be fine. -

It probably would’ve helped with his inconsistencies. Crean wanted to play in the waters, and he did to an extent (Vonleh, Bryant, etc.), but he was held back by the administration. Definitely better than Archie and Woodson. -

His stats are basically identical to Xavier’s stats coming from Pitt. Maybe he is a mid-major guy who comes to a P5 school and excels. Those guys do exist, but they’re the exception. It’d be nice to get some proven commodities, though. -

It wasn’t as bad last year but they still had 5 open scholarships to fill last spring. They filled those with zero guards despite going after many of them. They’ll get a couple of guards this year by necessity but I would be shocked if they’re better than what we lose in Xavier. -

UK fans would literally burn the UK campus to the ground if they had the 25 years we’ve just had yet somehow IU fans get the toxic label. If anything IU fans aren’t toxic enough. -
Those donors are why we’re getting another season of Mike Woodson, so ‘thankful’ doesn’t exactly describe my feelings toward them.

Reneau is one of like 3 players on the roster actually worth paying. Odds are high, though, that well now see the same antiquated offense we’ve seen for the past three years.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call him a hell of a coach, but he’s definitely better than Woodson and would likely have above average results here. Probably similar to at UCLA. -

Indiana Players Now In The Portal
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
They don’t need to top 50 players, but they all really do need to be capable of being rotational players on a good team. We have 3 players on the roster right now who fit that bill. Two of them may transfer and/or enter the draft. We need a lot of help.
