You can repeat the “middle of the pack B1G team” line as much as you want, but the sole reason IU has been a middle of the pack team is because of coaching. There’s absolutely nothing from an IU standpoint holding DeVries back. He has better resources than nearly every other team in the conference. Johnson seems like a good hire but Adams is meh.

Alternatively, a new coach with top of the conference resources is struggling to land assistants and players.

Why not? Did he land the assistants people said he’d land? Is he raking in recruits left and right? What was he shown thus far that should give the fans confidence?

Why do you have an issue with people pointing out the concerns that they’re seeing so far?

Are we supposed to throw coach a party for landing a role player from the second worst team in the Big East? And if you can’t understand why Tucker isn’t being touted as a recruiting win then idk what to tell you. He’s a great player, but it’s not like DD went head to head against the top dogs to land him.

Spot on, imo. I’m rooting like hell for DD. The past two coaching searches have made it clear that there isn’t a savior who’s coming to save the day. We’re gonna have to strike gold and develop our own coach. I’m just seeing some red flags with DD. It’s been an underwhelming start big time.

Dix’s mom is very sick and Creighton is closer to her. Not really an equal comparison.

Yeah I mean the sky isn’t falling but we’re approaching mid April and it’s been very underwhelming thus far. I cease expecting more than what we’ve seen thus far. None of his WVU players or recruits following him and then dumping on him on social media has been a red flag to me.

We need to get players and soon. For all the talk about “trust in coach,” he’s completely new and needs to earn trust. Right now he’s just a guy with a nearly empty roster.

He’s not even that good. He threw for 19 touchdowns last year. 10 of them came in their four non conference games. Another 4 came against Vandy. 5 passing touchdowns total in their 7 other conference games + 1 playoff game. 0 passing touchdowns in their 3 losses. He was a middle of the pack SEC quarterback last year. Not worth the headache. Good for Tennessee.

I remember when he hit the transfer portal after that came to light but then withdrew his name when the moderators upped his NIL offer.

Sorry, I was thinking of basketball when I posted this. For the past two coaching searches we’ve heard about how IU is willing to spend all this money on a “big fish” but we don’t end up landing one and pay the new coach a good but not eye popping amount (not that I think either Woodson or DD should’ve been paid more). Hard to tell whether that’s from IU not offering the huge salaries to others or just not getting someone to take it. The football pay has been great and I hope it continues. If I had to pick between basketball and football, I’d pick for IU to be great at football.

Kind of seems like all the big spending talk for IU is just that - talk. I’m not seeing an administration that’s willing to do more than the status quo when it comes to money. I did see that Tucker is getting $3 million in NIL and I don’t know how to feel about it. On one hand, that’s probably what someone would pay him on the market. On the other hand, IU is spending $3 million on guy who was coming to IU regardless but allegedly wouldn’t pay over $2 million on the Xavier guard who was exactly what we needed. Idk, there’s still a lot of time but not having two of our assistants still and seemingly missing on the two people felt confident in coming doesn’t paint a great picture. Hope for some better news too.

Sounds like exactly what I’d like in a guard. Good size at 6’5, great shooter. Count me out on Pack, I think. Undersized guards who don’t/can’t defend aren’t what we should prioritize.

Very few of these guys are actually worth what they’re being paid. A guy like Cupps is allegedly getting paid $600k. He’s “worth” a scholarship and board, imo. But in this anything goes landscape a player is worth whatever a school is willing to pay, and some schools are willing to pay basically anything to win.

Idk, all the great success Davis, Crean, and Archie have had post-IU certainly supports the “our fanbase is the problem” argument. Once they were unburdened by our toxicity the sky was the limit. I’m sure Woody is the next former IU coach destined for post-IU greatness.

Does sending emails to the AD demanding the coach be fired help or hurt the “toxic environment”?

I don’t pay enough attention to coaching searches to know how common it is, but none of his WVU players/recruits following him stuck out to me too. You’d think at least one guy would. The Whiz Kid has several guys following him to Iowa. Idk, I guess I just expected to hear more news at this point than we’ve heard.
