16/18 IUFB vs Nebraska - Saturday, 10.19.24 @ Noon - HOMECOMING

Idk if Coach Cig will leave or not, but there’s really no reason he can’t win as many games at IU as he could at a school like Florida. And IU fans will be a helluva lot happier about 8-9 win seasons than they would be. -

6 of the 12 players on last year’s roster were new. 7 of the 13 players on this year’s roster are new. You’re not going to build continuity/a system when half your guys each year are new to the program. -

Time will tell with Painter. No team will be completely filled with Indiana guys, but 3 of his 5 starters were Indiana guys and a fourth was from Illinois. He has a system/identity, and he fills his teams with guys who fit that identity. IU has no identity as a program. Maybe I wouldn’t care if we didn’t have any Indiana players if we were winning all the time, but I would still want the players to have an “Bob Knight basketball” mentality. Tough, hard nosed, hardworking, law-abiding. You don’t have to be from Indiana to be a Hoosier. Victor Oladipo was from the DMV but he was a Hoosier through and through. We’re going into the fourth year of the Mike Woodson experience and I have absolutely no idea what a Mike Woodson basketball player is supposed to look like. Frankly, I don’t think Mike Woodson does either. -

Put me on ignore then. You responding to every post of mine is weird, frankly, and contradicts your claim that my opinion “should be valued the same as a Purdue or Kentucky fan.” -

I’m not a stockholder of IU, I’m an alum. I root for the team because it’s where I went to school and it’s the school I feel a connection toward. If we become a school that just swaps in a team full of new mercenaries each year, what connection do they really have to the school? At that point you’re the Bloomington minor league basketball team, not the Indiana University Hoosiers. I can’t stand Purdue, but it must be nice as hell to be a fan of that school’s basketball team. You get to have a great coach, you get to win a ton, and you get to do it with a roster full of Indiana kids who come for the school, not the paycheck. We get none of those things. -

He’s a take I’m sure you’ll like. An uber talented 5 star kid from Indiana who wanted to play for IU chose not to come here specifically because he didn’t want to play for Mike Woodson. A few weeks ago another 5 star kid from Indiana chose not to play for Mike Woodson. But hey, AH says Mike Woodson is killing it with high school recruits, so I must just be making this up. -

Yes, I’m the walking bad take, not the guy whose sole purpose since creating an account has been to defend every single action (or inaction) taken by Mike Woodson You argue out of both sides of your mouth. On one side, long drawn out recruitments are a thing of the past. On the other side, Woodson put a ton of effort over the past year+ in recruiting Mullins. The proof is in the pudding. Mike Woodson is not good at recruiting high school players. He’s absolutely abysmal at recruiting high school players who aren’t making rushed spring decisions. I’m pretty sure he’s only landed 4 commitments since November 2021. 4 in basically 3 years. Not exactly hitting it out of the park. -

I mean, saying “Woodson doesn’t have an issue getting too high school talent to Bloomington” is literally not true. Duke just brought in five 5 star players in the class of 2024, for example. Woodson isn’t doing numbers like that. He’s bringing in 1 per year. Every IU coach, even Archie Miller, could land 5 star players, and they didn’t have millions of dollars to throw at high schoolers. Woodson high school recruiting record is pathetic when you consider his plethora of resources. -

It’s not. I barely watched last season and have no plans to change anything this year. Mike Woodson basketball is brutal to watch even when he does win. -

You’re real hung up on me saying I’m not watching this year. And considering you think Woodson’s high school recruiting has been “just fine”, I don’t think you’d be the most reliable source on the team’s performance this season. Neglecting high school recruiting and bringing in 6-7 transfers every year simply isn’t a sustainable practice. But it does give Woodson a built in excuse each year, I.e., “we’re still getting to know each other.” You can’t have it both ways. Either Woodson put in a lot of effort into the Mullins recruitment and whiffed, or he didn’t because “long, drawn-out recruitments is no longer a thing.” Either way, it’s a bad look for Woodson. -

He’s gotten what, 4 high school commitments since November 2021? 3 of those 4 commitments were spring ‘throw money at the player’ recruitments. The evidence is crystal clear that he is flat out terrible when it comes to long-term high school recruitments. I’m pretty sure Sisley is the only one of those he’s landed since Cupps committed in November 2021. -

Ah yes, another excuse. You mean Matt painter, the 2x defending conference champ and national finalist, still finds the time to hit the recruiting trail hard? Grandpa Mike could learn a thing or two, though that might require him missing a few naps and staying up past his bedtime. I’m rooting for this to be Woodson’s last season as IU’s coach. He’s a terrible coach and has an even worse personality. As long as he’s here, talented players like Mullins will continue looking elsewhere. I’m fine with whatever on court result we have to have for this to be it for Gramps. -

Wasn’t Mullins one of the kids playing at sectionals when Woodson decided to stay home for wine and cigars with the fellas? Woody’s fans will excuse it (like they do all his actions) by saying he’ll “just buy someone in the portal”, as if in-state 5 stars choosing other schools because they don’t like Woodson is fine and dandy as long as he can use his buddies’ billions to buy another mercenary. I’m not even a “we should only recruit Indiana kids” guy, but a team full of mercenaries only coming for a check isn’t what I’m interested in either. -

Mike Woodson is a low energy 66 year old with an offensive style even older than he is. It’s no surprise that Mullins and others don’t want to play for him. -

The out of conference wins are largely meaningless when you schedule the way Mike Woodson schedules. No one should be impressed by single digit wins against the Army’s and Florida Gulf Coast’s of college basketball. Having a better tradition than IU football doesn’t take much. We have more losses than any other school. But Rutgers doesn’t have a rich tradition by any means. Rutgers has 8 NCAA tournament appearances in school history and had last made it in 1991 before making it in 2021 and 2022. No one is saying Pikell is a great coach - he was 12th on that list. But there’s little reason to believe Mike Woodson would outperform him if they switched roles. Woodson is 1-3 against Rutgers. Woodson had two seasons of upperclassman TJD and mustered 1 tournament win out of it. -

Sure, but yet Woodson only has 2 more conference wins than Pikell during those three years. When you consider the resource disparity between IU and Rutgers, that’s pretty sad.
