IU vs. Rutgers official game thread
Hoosierfan2017 replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The number of tickets sold wouldn't change much, if at all. IU games are going to sellout most of the time regardless. What would change would be the number of people who actually show up after buying tickets. -

I'm a senior this year so I'm all for that now lol. In all seriousness though I remember seeing someone on here talking about the games over break and wondering if the students being gone hurts our home court advantage, but I think it's the opposite. Students are louder and more obnoxious of course but that doesn't help when half of them don't show up. Make more tickets available to the general public and I think we'd start seeing more games played in a packed Assembly Hall. -

I don't think it was mentioned but there were a ton of empty student seats today. My ticket group had our row and the rows behind us and in front of us to ourselves, and that seemed pretty common in our area. The 12:00 start didn't help but kids just don't show up anymore unless we're playing a highly ranked team. -

After the first 10 minutes or so once our players woke up the outcome was never in question. Rutgers doesn't have the horses to compete with us, especially at home. We didn't play well and it never seemed like our guys were really into the game, though. Nothing about it felt like a turning point. It's nice to pick up a conference win but it doesn't really make me feel any better about our team than the early cupcake wins did. It was just an ugly win against a bad team. On to Penn State. -

Crean made it a far bigger deal than it was, imo. Yeah Green shouldn't have done it but if he was wanting to show Rutgers up he would've pulled up for a three. McSwain hadn't played all game and I honestly believe Green just wanted to create a highlight reel play for McSwain and give him something to boost his confidence. I don't think Green did it with any malice intended, he just wanted to make a play for a buddy. It would have been a perfect teaching moment for Crean. Pull Green aside after the game, be like "look, I get that you were just looking to make a play for a teammate who doesn't get many opportunities, but that's not something we do here at the end of a game when we have a big lead. Dont do it again" and send Green on his way. Maybe make him run a little extra at their next practice. The message would've gotten across to him. Instead, he decided to blow a gasket, run onto the court and completely explode on the kid. There's no need to embarrass Green like that in front of thousands of people in Assembly Hall, and all the people nationwide who are going to see it now. If you're that angry at him wait till you get behind closed doors and go off on him. The fact Crean hasn't shown emotion like that all season long makes it 10x worse for me. With all the things that have happened this season, a freshman throwing a lob to a guy who spends most of every game glued to the bench is when he decided to get mad? Not to mention Crean didn't take his starters out of the game until there was about 1:30 left. Some people would consider that a form of showing up the opponent. -

I've been worried about that for a while actually. I hope it doesn't happen because the kid is going to be a player, but as the season goes on it seems more and more likely. The end of today's game definitely doesn't help. -

Showing up players like that is a good way to make sure we keep failing to bring in 5 stars. Where's Crean when TB throws tantrums multiple times a game? -

Ah okay I gotcha. Yeah he definitely had some major problems. I think he went bankrupt as well. Hopefully TB doesn't go down that road, but his issues seem to be getting worse. I don't remember him b******* nearly as much last year. -

It has to be so aggravating to play for Crean. Players who played very well in the first half have barely seen the floor in the second. -

What makes you think that? VY was phenomenal in college, won a national championship and had a decent pro career. TB would be extremely lucky to have a career as good as his. -

Bryant just air balled a dunk attempt... And I don't even know what that was he did afterwards. -

Newkirk to start the half lol. Crean with another relapse. Ugh. -

Maybe give him 3-4 minutes here and there to give the other guys a blow, but his 14 minutes so far is too many for him in a game, let alone a half. -

Without a doubt. I think we found our point guard, but then again I think we've all been saying this for a while now. -

Crean won't ever do it because he doesn't want to completely kill Bryant's NBA chances, but this team would be much better if De'ron got the bulk of the post minutes. He's not just in a slump, this is the player he is. -

Hey each game is different, you have to read the players inside of that game. Or something like that lol. -

I'm glad Green is getting some early run. Maybe Crean is starting to realize Newkirk isn't the answer? -

Smart layup by jbj right there. Could've tried to get one for the highlight reel but he took the easy 2 instead. -

Not to mention his Swiss cheese defense when they penetrate. It's just sad to watch honestly. -

Bryant's going to get bodied all game by that big white kid I can already tell. -
Bryant should've went pro last year. He probably wouldn't have made a roster and he was nowhere near ready as this season shows. but he might've gotten a guaranteed contract. That's never going to happen now unless he makes drastic improvements in multiple facets of his game. He couldn't play any position in the league right now.

Pete Diprimio article on Subbing.
Hoosierfan2017 replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think I understood Crean's substitutions more before I read the article than after I did lol. I disagree completely with him, though, when he said "I know what happens when they hit that wall. We have to make sure they don’t hit that wall. Get them that rest so we can put them back in and they’ll be good. We have a 40-minute game minimum. We’re not living in the moment as much as it's play by play. We still have to plan ahead for the end of the game.” You work on that during off season conditioning. During preseason conditioning. These guys are 18-22 years old. This isn't the NBA where they are playing back-to-backs. They get 2-3 days between games at a minimum. There are NBA players their age putting up 35 minutes a night, 82 nights a year. There's no reason our starters shouldn't be able to give 32-35 minutes a game, and honestly I think they feel the same way. Players want to be out there playing as much as possible, and there's a good chance his methods hurt us with the top recruits. They're not coming to college to play 20-25 minutes a night. Having fresh players doesn't help us when they're spending half the game on the bench. -
Paige going deep probably didn't happen nearly as often as I think it did, the times he did probably just caught my attention and stuck with me. There's a lot of blocking clips in his highlight video so a switch to TE would make sense. Seems to have the frame for it.
