Lol now the DH I can agree with you on! I've never known baseball without it, but I still think it's a dumb rule.
-
If all the best schools are doing it I would rather roll in the mud with them than get left in the dust. Sure winning the "right way" is my preference, but if we have to operate in the gray areas to be elite then so be it.

Noooo. Give me an entire coaching staff of Steve Alford's instead of that. Men's basketball and women's basketball are two completely different sports.

OKC is nothing but a system for Westbrook to use to hunt for triple doubles these days. They'll lose in the first round and the franchise will begin to turn on Donovan. Russ leaves after next year and then he's stuck with a bunch of role players. We can give him a salary increase and a chance to actually coach again, and at the highest level in college basketball at that. A few more nights like tonight and we're gonna be looking pretty good to Billy.

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We knew this was probably going to happen, but it still sucks to see. Hopefully the other two guys stick with us. -
Well I didn't expect this much excitement this afternoon! An announcement would make sense to me. No games until Thursday so IU would be the center story for the next few days. I'm hoping for a big splash.
-
I would be happy with Alford if he was our 6th or 7th choice and all the guys before him were approached about the job and declined. There are some positives to him and I think he could do good things here. If he was one of the first 2 or 3 guys on our list though, no bueno.

Not gonna lie I got nervous when I first saw that we were hiring a search firm. As long as they're not the ones picking the candidates I'm not worried about it though.

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think he has a good shot at it. The new coach won't be beholden to any promises that were made to the players during their recruitments, so I think we'll see the best players at each position get the most playing time. -
Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers

De'ron was the #1 guy we needed to keep, imo. He will be an anchor inside for us the next 2-3 seasons. Now Morgan and Green need to follow suit. -
2017 March Madness Tournament Thread

I said on another board the other day that Calimari isn't a great coach and some guy went off on me lol. If his recruiting falls off he's going to have trouble. -
2017 March Madness Tournament Thread

Michigan starts two juniors and two seniors. Experience matters. -
Most teams didn't recruit Wade because of academic issues. He had to sit out his entire freshman year. His only three offers were from Marquette, Illinois State and DePaul. If those issues aren't there I don't think Crean gets him. Credit to Crean for taking a chance on a kid, but I'm not going to discredit Marshall because he hasn't landed a player of that caliber.

2017 March Madness Tournament Thread

I wouldn't be surprised by that at all. Izzo always has his teams playing at their best come tournament time. That's one guy I'd want to avoid in the tournament if I was a coach. -
2017 March Madness Tournament Thread
Hoosierfan2017 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm always worried when I pick Kansas to go deep in the tournament in my bracket. Maybe it just sticks out to me more when they get upset, but it seems like they underachieve a lot of the time. -
Idk the answer to your question, but I just wanted to say I really hope the new coach improves our non-conference schedule. Marquee matchups and Indiana schools, please. I'm tired of seeing a half dozen Southeast Missouri States on the schedule.
-
Agreed. They said exactly what I expected them to say in their situations. They're not going to come out and say "oh yeah I'd love to coach the Hoosiers, Fred give me a call so we can get things set up" while they're under contract to coach other teams. Even if they both truly meant what they said, feelings change. Heck, Donovan had a press conference with the Magic after taking the job before turning around and going back to Florida. I fully expect Glass to go after both of them hard. I don't expect Stevens to be our next coach, but him coming out and saying the only thing he could say in the situation means nothing.

Sports Illustrated Hit Piece on Indiana
Hoosierfan2017 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Meh. The Harbaughs have always struck me as whiny so I'm not too surprised. Crean knew the expectations when he came here. IU gave him 9 years (6-7 after the rebuild, depending on how you feel about year 3) to meet those expectations. He didn't, so IU sent him on his way. IU is better off because of Tom Crean, and the Crean family is better off because of IU. It was just time for the two to go their separate ways. Nothing personal, strictly business. -
I wish us anonymous posters had that much power lol.

I've heard from multiple sources that Crean ripped off Fred's friendship bracelet when he got the news.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

Meh. Crimson quarry is fake news! They're still healing their broken hearts after seeing Crean got fired. -
Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I said it yesterday and I'll say it again now... Money talks. I'm sure he enjoys his job now, but if we come at him with a large offer we're going to have his ear. I didn't think we had any shot but then I saw that he's only makin around $3.7 million a year. It's not like he's already making $6 million like Donovan. -
"For the last few years, they saw a coach who was running uphill, at a university that seemed to look for reasons to be disappointed by him." IU was as patient with Crean as you'll see at a P5 school, imo. Glass gave Crean everything he needed to be successful. He just couldn't do it. To try and put blame on IU is ridiculous. Coaches get fired all the time. I think both IU and the fan base hoped that Crean would be the guy for the job. Once it became obvious that he wasn't things went south a bit, but that's going to happen at any coaching job.
-
"IU fans your program sucks and you better not do anything to try and change that or we'll call you crazy!" - every media dweeb out there.
-
No worries man! Honestly I'm interested in hearing the stories, Im sure there are a lot of them out there. I'm just not going to put the things I've heard on here because I've got nothing against Crean now that he's not our coach. My feelings toward him have done a 180 since we got the news lol.
