If you want Mike Woodson back next year, sure. If you want him fired this was the worst outcome. Wanting IU to win these games and wanting Mike Woodson fired are irreconcilable positions.
-
The absolute only thing wins do at this point in the season is secure Mike Woodson’s fourth season. A fourth Mike Woodson season would be disastrous for the program. This, it’s impossible to be anything but pissed. This sucks.
-
Absolutely brutal for the tank. One more win and Woodson will 100% be back for another miserable season next year. IU will never be great again.

This sucks. Woodson will 100% use this as proof that Xavier’s injuries were the reason we sucked, and Quinn will hold Us hostage for a fourth Woodson season.
-
This is a hot take, but I don’t think fake classes would even really bother me. Many athletes are “student” athletes in name only. They have advisors to ‘help’ them with their work. They often do anything but pay attention to class (when they show up, that is). I don’t view fake classes as much worse than the current wink wink charade that often happens.
-
Did you mean to include the bolded? Roy’s players took fake classes, and Izzo’s players assaulted women. Painter and Jay Wright aren’t clean either, but wanted to separate them out from the other two.
-
Pearl’s sleaziness doesn’t bother me in even the slightest. It’s entirely in the context of college basketball. He’s not out there doing the Beard. He just does what it takes to succeed in college basketball, and he does it well. Sign me up. The IU way gets us 4 sweet 16s in 30 years.
-
I don’t disagree, but my hope is that this means that Dolson recognizes that the “IU way” doesn’t win in 21st century college basketball.

IU already sold the tickets so they probably don’t care, though they’ll lose out on concessions, etc. if people don’t show up. -
I don’t see Donovan and Stevens as being comparable to this situation. Neither of them were even coaching college basketball at the time. Stevens hated recruiting, and Donovan had literally zero connection to IU. Pearl just gushed about the IU job this past November. Doesn’t mean he’ll come here, but it’s not nothing.
-
Sounds like a chant for tonight’s game.
-
Folks are trying to talk themselves out of Pearl. Don’t. He’s a winner. Simple as that. He’s won at every single school he’s coached at. If he comes to IU he will win here too. Guaranteed. Now, he may only win for 5-6 years before he retires, but he will win. And you know what 5-6 years of winning does to the IU job? It makes it a helluva lot more attractive for the next hire.
-
Make it happen Scott. IU would be back to elite status by December.
-
Every time he opens his mouth he demonstrates why he has no business being the IU head coach. Dude needs to GO!
-
Will be sad to see Anthony Leal go
-
Lmao ok. Was asking an honest question about your opinion, but if you want to be a **** about it, you do you.
-
So, I really don’t understand this opinion that I see people have, assuming you want Woodson fired, especially at this point in the season where tournament aspirations are gone. Losing is the only way that Mike Woodson can lose his job. Every win increases the likelihood he’s back next year because the BOT and donors already want to keep him.
-
And if you look at what the author said, the author never actually said that they turned the job down. The author said they “expressed no interest in the job.” That’s a true statement based on their public comments at the time. But saying they “turned the job down” as that poster is saying is their own interpretation.
-
The fact they did it in the past and then fired him two years later for reasons unrelated to on-court performance just makes it all the more unlikely that they offered the job to Rick Pitino. He had to go to Greece and then little Iona because no one would hire him. Yet IU offered him? C’mon. There is zero chance. None.
-
13 years before 2021, and then they fired him and completely nuked the program. So no, they didn’t put up with Sampson, though they should have
-
They expressed “no interest” in the job because they were asked about it by reporters. You’re acting like they called a press conference to announce their lack of interest in the job. Pitino was asked about it in a press conference before his team’s NCAA tournament game, and he answered the question. In the same answer he said that Iona was his last coaching stop, and then he left two years later. Do you really think a school with IU’s holier than thou attitude would have offered the job to one of the sleaziest coaches in college basketball?
-
Two years later he leaves for St. John’s lol. Idk what’s worse, believing that IU offered Pitino the job, or believing that Pitino would’ve said no if IU offered it to him.
-
Did you even read the article? Because nowhere in it does it claim what you claim that it says, i.e., that “Steven’s, Rick Pitino and Nate Oates all turned down the job.” The Pitino stuff is especially laughable. It’s all based on Pitino’s comments from this tweet. https://twitter.com/mikerodak/status/1371902704361091076?s=61&t=rO3XWU_xhZIobOsxbDJjYQ You can’t “turn down” a job offer you never received, and there is a 0.0% chance that iu would offer Pitino the job.
-
There is absolutely zero chance that IU offered the job to Rick Pitino in 2021.
