Seems unlikely. But I’m not interested in winning the offseason. Even a top 5 portal class would have to be coached by Mike Woodson, and we’ve seen what that looks like.
-
The only difference between this week and Mike Woodson’s other 51 weeks is the other coaches are taking this one off too.
-
Maybe not for you. What will be the excuse when he does this all summer instead of recruiting? Sorry, but when you behave the way Mike Woodson behaves you really don’t deserve any benefit of the doubt from the fanbase.
-
And when he was partying it up on his birthday weekend like he was 21 again when it wasn’t a dead week? If Woodson generally busted his *** this wouldn’t be an issue. But he acts like he’s semi-retired, puts out a mediocre product, and gets combative when questioned. This week is an official dead week. All the other weeks are unofficial dead weeks for Mike Woodson.

Not really true if IU had a coach capable of fielding a national championship contender. It could be us playing Monday night instead of Purdue. The IU administration sent a crystal clear signal last month that it’s not serious about its men’s basketball program. You may be ok with that, but I and many others are not.
-
Unfortunately, our biggest rival is playing fit a national championship, another conference rival took the coach most people wanted, and IU decided to die on the Mike Woodson hill. All because he played at IU more than 40 years ago and got his feelings hurt during the last coaching search.
-
He could be golfing with Jesus Christ and I’d still meme on him. He’s lazy, he’s a jerk to the other IU coaches, and he’s a terrible coach. Fire. Mike. Woodson.
-
After making it out to a sectional game last month, Woody absolutely deserves a nice round of golf to unwind. Maybe Tim, Isiah and the boys taught Woodson how to run a 21st century offense while out there today.
-
UConn already has, imo. Their past 25 years have been remarkable. Since IU’s last title, UConn has gone to 12 elite eights, 7 final fours, and won 5 titles. Could be 6 after Monday. Really is wild what they’ve accomplished over the past 30 or so years.
-
Sure, but the youngest of those 5 is 37 years old, and it’s not getting any younger. You ask how this has anything to do with Woodson… It’s simple. Our biggest rival is playing for a national championship while our program is a laughingstock led by a clueless coach.
-
Ok but they do have Edey and they’re playing for a NC Monday night. Something IU hasn’t done in 20+ years. If they win Monday night it’s not going to come with a 7’4 asterisk.
-
Three of Purdue’s starters and four of their top eight guys are Indiana kids. They’re playing for a national championship Monday night. Meanwhile we’ll be trotting out a team of mercenaries from who knows where with ncaa tournament appearance aspirations. IU and Purdue are really in completely different worlds as programs.
-
Which is why there’s a separate thread but apparently the mere sight of the thread title is too much.
-
People get mad when the fire Woodson talk gets into other threads, but then they want to get rid of the fire Woodson thread too lmao. Sorry, but some of us still want him gone.

Exactly this. Woodson is taking the Calipari approach to recruiting that so many people hated. All we really have to offer players is money, so we’re going to attract players whose biggest priority is money. A ‘front of the jersey’ program we are not. Guys aren’t coming to play for Indiana. They’re coming to play for a check. Which, whatever I guess. That’s how college basketball largely is now. -

Calipari took over the UK job in 2009. Since then he’s gone to 7 elite eights, 4 final fours, and won a national title. Six SEC regular season titles + six SEC tournament titles. I know you’re a huge Calipari hater, but you’ll be hard pressed to find many coaches during that span with more success. Dude has gone to at least the elite eight in half of his seasons at UK. IU has gone to one elite eight in the past 30 years. -

Calipari has been to 7 elite eights in 14 opportunities at UK. He was 25-6 and 1st in the SEC the year the tournament got canceled. The hate on him is copium. IU would build him a statue if we had the past 15 years UK has had. -
I’m sure people will get on here and try to sell us copium based on his last season, but 3 sweet 16s (with two being elite 8 appearances) and won 76% of his games at Nevada. Just yet another B1G school with a better coach than IU.
-
We’ll never be great at basketball again. I’m very confident of that. The IU administration doesn’t want it to happen. Bob Knight was the reason IU was great. Without him, we’re just another mediocre program that gives out raises for making the tournament.

The article states that “Since 1992-93, when the sports-reference.com data (highest recommendation) on such things kicks in, we’ve seen 135 major-conference player-seasons that met the following criteria: 1. Freshman or sophomore 2. At least 100 three-point attempts 3. Three-point percentage under 30 4. Returned the following season Collectively, those 135 players went 6,197 of 17,753 on their threes the following season. That nets out to 34.9 percent.” 34.9% from 3 isn’t good either. Tre Jones’ 36% his sophomore year at Duke wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either given his lowish volume (3.7/game). Sure players improve and can become good shooters. It just seems like every year we’re banking on players improving over the summer, and more often than not they don’t. Jordan Geronimo was going to take a huge jump. Then Tamar Bates was going to take a jump. This past year it was going to be Gunn and Banks. IU has millions of dollars to spend on portal players. Instead of bringing in guys you hope can improve on shooting, why not spend that on a couple guards who are already shooting 40% or better from 3? Our last really good team had 5 rotation players shoot 40% or better from 3. Thomas Bryant was the only guy who shot worse than 34.7% from 3 on that team, and he was at 33.3%. -

32% from 3 is definitely not a good percentage. Especially when it’s on meh volume. IU shot 32% from 3 as a team last year - good for 273rd in the country. -
I think their big problems is with certain credits from transfers not counting toward degrees, which wouldn’t affect grad transfers (though I could be wrong).
-
Does “no” increase our chances of getting portal recruits? lol
-
2 elite 8s and another sweet 16 in 5 years at Arkansas. Won 76% of his games at Nevada. Would’ve loved to have been able to get him. Instead with stuck with Mediocre Mike!

I mean, Scott Dolson has shown us what he considers to be enough. A 1st round and a 2nd round appearance gets you a million dollar raise. A sweet 16 appearance? Scott would probably dish out a John Calipari-esque lifetime contract.
