His winning percentage is slightly better than the other post-Knight duds, better throw him a victory party for his one ncaa tournament win. He’s 31-29 in what has been a very mediocre Big 10. If anything, your statistic just shows that IU basketball was Bob Knight and without him we’re just another average P5 program.
-
He probably does feel that way, but he was mediocre as an nba player and an nba coach too. Won 46% of his games and won three playoff rounds in nine seasons. He was there a long time, but nothing about his time in the nba was remarkable. Certainly not remarkable enough to warrant the way he acts. But you’d think he’s a HOFer with the way he acts.
-
Fans don’t need to be personally affected to have opinions on the character Mike Woodson has demonstrated over the past year.
-
Did people consider Bob Knight a “better person” because he won? Or did they put up with his character flaws because he won? I was 6 years old when he was fired. But yes, your head coach being a d*** is easier to stomach when he’s really good at his job. Absent a 180 personality-wise, though, I don’t envision myself becoming a true fan of Mike Woodson.
-
Did Bob Knight regularly take shots at the fan base? And Mike Woodson has Bob Knight-level arrogance while delivering Tom Allen results.
-
I mean, what you’re describing really isn’t arrogance. Mike Woodson acting like he’s above answering very basic interview questions or treating others within IU athletics dismissively isn’t “bulletproof self belief,” it’s just him being a d***.
-
Mike Woodson’s personality/character was on full display last season. That, combined with the reports of how he treats others within IU athletics, is certainly enough to make someone not a Mike Woodson true fan. But, to each their own.
-
That’s really the worst case scenario (and also the most likely scenario). He does enough to keep his job given the University’s very low standards but not enough to satisfy anyone other than his most loyal disciples.
-
I want him gone after this upcoming season. If that means winning a national championship and he rides off into the sunset, great. If that means he crashes and burns his way out of the tournament field, great. Whatever result ends with Mike Woodson not being the head coach for the 2025/2026 season works for me.
-
The dedication to defending a bad college basketball coach certainly is something.
-
Yeah, Izzo didn’t have a good season last season. His last few seasons haven’t been very good. What’s your point? Woodson has won 1 tournament games in three seasons. The round of 32 is the best he’s done at IU. Izzo made the round of 32 last season. He made it as far in a bad season as Woodson did in his best one.. Again, what’s your point?
-
Izzo won as many tournament games last season as Woodson has won in his entire college coaching career.
-
I mean, it’s pretty straightforward. I don’t like the way Woodson conducts himself. I don’t like the way he approaches the job/the effort he puts into the job. He doesn’t have the personality I want in an IU coach.
-
That’d be like the tournament getting canceled in 2023 and saying Woodson only made 1 tournament. IU was a lock for the tournament in 2020. Archie also didn’t have millions of dollars to use to spend on immediately eligible transfers. Ware is the only reason last year wasn’t every bit as bad as (or worse than) any of Archie’s IU seasons. Woodson has massive advantages no other IU coach For the sake of argument let’s say he’s better than Archie. That’s it. Mike Davis’s last season was marginally worse than Woodson’s best season. He got fired for it back when IU had standards. Woodson got a million dollar raise for it.
-
Yeah, he can do a 180 with his personality and start treating other people with respect/start putting effort into his job. That’d go a long way. Until then, I don’t really care what he does on the court.
-
He’s the worst, imho. He’s the only one who has the benefit of NIL + the transfer portal and it’s gotten him 1 tournament win in three years.

Michael Penix is Very Good At Washington
Hoosierfan2017 replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I’m not sold on McCarthy at all and think Penix is a better prospect, but agree that he made more sense given Atlanta has their qb for the next 3-4 years already. By the time Cousins is gone, McCarthy will be around the age Penix already is right now. -

They gave Cousins a billion dollars guaranteed and then used the #8 pick on a quarterback lmao. Just hilariously bad decision making. And I doubt Penix is too pleased about it either, honestly. -

Expectations for the 24-25 Season
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Unexpectedflash's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
What are players with big roles on national title contenders/conference championship winners looking for if not a check? Like let’s be for real here for a minute. Arizona to IU is a step down in basically every way for a basketball player in 2024. If it’s not money, what’s the motivating factor? -
I mean, isn’t not prioritizing shooters in terms of who he brings in not also a sign that he doesn’t emphasize the 3?
-
Why do you pretend that last year was Woodson’s first season at IU? In three years at IU his teams have finished 13th, 14th, and 14th in the conference in three point attempts. He has said that it’s not his job to get his shooters shots. He has said that he thinks basketball is played inside out. He’s telling you that the 3 isn’t a focus for him, and he’s showing you too. How much proof do you need?
-
We’ve taken 22+ threes in a game 16 times during the 103 games Mike Woodson has coached at IU. 15.5% of his games. We did it 4 times in 33 games this past season. But, sure, we’re going to start averaging 22+ a game now. Very likely.
-
Cupps never played with TJD. Was he going to run onto the court from the crowd to shoot 3s? Miller Kopp shot 45% from 3 in conference play and Galloway shot 47% from 3 in conference play during TJD’s senior season. Why would you not want to get two 45% shooters more 3s? It’s not rocket science. But, of course, getting them shots wasn’t Woody’s job.
-
Again, you’re ignoring that Purdue had all that and then some with Zach Edey but still managed to shoot 5 more threes a game than IU. But that’s the difference between a real modern basketball coach and Mike Woodson.
