IUFB vs Washington - Saturday, 10.26.24 - ESPN College Game Day
Hoosierfan2017 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Sorry but we need a stud if we want the same results next year. He’s not bad by any means but he’s not elite either. Maybe part of it is the staff not trusting him because he seems to have a strong arm. -

Well at least now we know we need to hit the portal for a QB for next season. Hope Rourke is back next week. -

Offense is looking a little better. Obviously not as good as with Rourke but serviceable. -

Jackson’s not looking good. Need rourke back soon. -
Sometimes losing is better for the program. Losing last football season was by far the best outcome for the football program. If Allen had won another game or two, we don’t hire Coach Cig, and we wouldn’t be 7-0 hosting college game day tomorrow. The worst thing for IU basketball is for Mike Woodson to still be the head coach this time next year. Whatever results we have to have this season to make sure that doesn’t happen, I do not care.

Yeah real coaches give up 90+ to Nebraska in the BTT to lose to them for the 3rd time in a season.

Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA
Hoosierfan2017 replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Imo we should just transfer IU’s endowment over to Coach Cig to use as he sees fit for the football program. -
It’s a good roster on paper. We’ll find out soon whether it’s a good roster on the court. Unfortunately, we’ll never know how good it truly could be because of the staff on the bench.

It’s ironic that he accuses others of pushing narratives when he’s all over the place with which games’ stats should count and which shouldn’t. For Mgbako, apparently only his 20 regular season games count. For Rice, his 0-22 stretch doesn’t count. Also the stats from his full conference season don’t count because he shot 24.6% from 3 during those games.
-
-
“He’s a good shooter if you take out his 0-22 stretch during the most important part of the season” is a helluva take.
-
Now you’re shifting the goalposts because the numbers you initially quoted were wrong. And lol at calling me an idiot for a statement I never made because you’re upset I corrected your misinformation. This 38% doesn’t include the 1-10 he shot from 3 in the conference tournament. Picking and choosing which games you want to count and not count is the definition of pushing a narrative. This whole discussion is dumb. Defend Woodson until the cows come home if you want, but there’s no defending his teams’ 3pt shooting.
-
You cut that portion of the post out when you responded to it. And your numbers are wrong. Mgbako shot 36-104 from 3 in January-March, which is 34.6%. That’s nothing to write home about. He shot 14-49 from 3 in November-December, which is 28.6% so, a 6% increase, far from an increase of “tenfold in a matter of months,” and the increased percentage still wasn’t good.
-
You’re the one who named Mgbako specifically as definitive proof that the claim this staff can’t develop shooting is a “narrative.” And even he shot 32.7% from 3 last year. The proof is in the pudding that IU has been the worst 3pt shooting team in the Big 10 over Woodson’s tenure. Just look at the numbers. But, as the big dog said himself, it’s not his job to get players shots.
-
IU has gone 14th, 14th, and 13th in the conference in 3 point makes during Woodson’s tenure. It’s really not the hill to die on when defending him.
-
Meh, the “optics” point is always overblown. Losing two in-state 5 star recruits within a month is bad optics too. The media’s always gonna media. You can’t let the fear of bad optics paralyze you into keeping a middling coach longer than you should keep him.
-
There’s zero chance a guy with Mike Woodson’s ego voluntarily steps aside. The only person/thing he cares about is himself.
-
If Woody’s going to retire then they should announce it now so that I can enjoy this season without the looming threat of future Woody seasons clouding the year. It’s not like it’ll have a negative impact on high school recruiting given his recent results.
-
At this point Stevens hasn’t coached college basketball in more than a decade and hasn’t coached basketball at all for 3+ seasons. I’m not convinced he’s be the savior people make him out to be. We need a grinder like Coach Cig who lives and breathes his sport.

Trent Sisley is an Outstanding Hoosier and (2025) SG - to UConn Thread

Gee I wonder why -
It probably also depends on how well Jackson plays. Not that IU would force an injured player to play, but if Jackson plays well then there’s less pressure to get Rourke back onto the field asap.
-
Why are you so deadset on it being a broken thumb? The initial reports during the game referenced blood, which is in line with a thumb nail issue.
-
I hope it’s not Cuban, though I definitely could see it being him. There are many better options, imo.

(2025) QB - Julian Lewis to Colorado (for now)

Great sign he’s planning to come Saturday. Seems like often in recruiting the rescheduled visit after a canceled visit doesn’t happen. With the season we’ve had, this isn’t just a guy giving lip service to a program because he’s had a longtime relationship with one of the coaches, imo. We’re 7-0, 4-0 in the conference, while the school he’s currently committed to is 3-4 and 16th in the conference. We’re higher in the country than USC is in the Big 10.
