Game Thread: Indiana Hoosiers @ Iowa Hawkeyes (9 p.m. EST on FS1)
AKHoosier replied to IUc2016's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
What a huge, much-needed win! Hopefully this gives our players a lot of energy and confidence going forward. This proves we can win basically anywhere in conference, we just have to bring it. -
Surprisingly, I don't hate the idea of Thad Matta. He's recruited Indiana very well, is a B1G guy, a very good x's and o's coach, and most of all is proven. I'd feel confident in his ability to at the very least, get us to the tournament every year. I'd need to see more out of Nate Oats before getting excited about him, granted I do like what I see so far. He took over a pretty good program from Hurley at Buffalo, but had to face some difficulty his first year after his two best players left the program. It reminds me of how Archie did so well at Dayton despite defections and not having anyone on his roster taller than 6'6" for most of a season.

I have no faith Stevens or Donovan would ever be serious candidates, so unless we can throw the bank at Chris Beard, we'll be stuck taking a flier on an up-and-comer like Archie was. No thanks, I'd rather just go for the consistency model and stick with Archie to be honest.
-
Stuff like this is why they'll always be known as Little Brother to me. They can never act like the bigger program. Instead, they're gloating about beating their extremely mediocre but biggest rivals. God they are so pathetic.
-
We are just SO FAR from where I expect us to be. Not even in the same time zone.
-
I honestly watched maybe 8 minutes of the entire game, glad I didn't waste more of my time. When I turned it on in the first half, Purdue hit three 3s and maintained a 5 pt lead, and was discouraged they were having a hot start. In the 2nd half, I stopped at about the 10 minute mark when they went back up by 8. You could just tell it was over by then. Honestly, we're trying to be a program that chases national championships, but we can't even beat our shitty rivals who are a complete nothing-burger on the national stage. What a gut check.
-
There is absolutely, never, EVER, an excuse to lose to f***ing Purdue 8 times in a row. Absolutely inexcusable. These aren't great, or even that good of Purdue teams either.

Seriously, the B1G can suck a ******* dick. I hate our refs so much. -

Had it. Good effort. We started missing shots, and the refs are too much to overcome. Good effort tonight. -

21 points in the first half. 0-9 from three. Archie knows offense like Crean knows defense. -

We NEED to recruit ONLY INDIANA PLAYERS
AKHoosier replied to Chilly willy's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Jeremy Hollowell Ronnie Johnson Terone Johnson Hanner Perea Austin Etherington Kelsey Barlow Donnie Hale Tell me you'd want even 1 of the above kids on our team. All of them from Indiana. -
IUFB -- Michigan OL Zach Carpenter transferring to IU
AKHoosier replied to LamarCheeks's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
That's a really good pick-up, both for OL depth and PR as a program. We're an attractive option for transfers looking to get some good playing time for an emerging program. Hopefully we get some guys on the DL as well.- 17 replies

Oscar Tshiebwe stepping away from WVU. Seems to have regressed during his sophomore year, maybe he needs a change of scenery. Boy I wouldn't mind Archie making a run at him. I remember we were involved with him briefly.
-
9 B1G teams currently ranked in the AP top 25. IU is not one of them. We definitely have an uphill battle to finish in the top half of the conference this year.
-
Despite an 0-2 start to conference play, the season is still absolutely salvageable. It starts with beating Penn State and Maryland to even out our conference record. Also need to just freaking beat Purdue. I also think it's likely we could steal a few on the road this year with fans not being in attendance, therefore much less adversity to deal with in other teams' venues.

What Can IUBB do to Revive Your Excitement/Confidence?
AKHoosier replied to Loaded Chicken Sandwich's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If Bruce Pearl could stop cheating his butt off, I'd say hire him yesterday. He has a unique ability to inject a lot of life into a program, which is desperately needed at IU. The only downside is we would almost certainly end up on probation, if history is any indication. -
What Can IUBB do to Revive Your Excitement/Confidence?
AKHoosier replied to Loaded Chicken Sandwich's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not ready to cut ties with Archie, but I'll admit my confidence in the direction we're heading is shot. Worse, my interest in IU basketball has never been lower. Maybe it's because the coronavirus taught me I can live without sports, who knows. We are clearly not winning the recruiting battles we need to. Losing our top targets to Creighton, Georgetown, and Purdue is quite a gut check of where we are as a program. This is a problem because it doesn't appear Archie is going to be coaching circles around anyone and finishing in the top 5 of the conference despite having lesser talent. Part of his philosophy is "getting older". How many of the guys who have stayed in the program have truly gotten better? It pains me to say this because I like the kid, but maybe Rob Phinisee just isn't that good. It doesn't seem like he has what it takes to be a starter on a team that's trying to compete for conference titles. Has Al Durham gotten any better? We're just not any better than we were 4 years ago as a basketball program. -

It's ridiculous to call the Outback Bowl a no-win situation for IU football. We haven't won a bowl game since 1993, so that monkey needs off our backs immediately. I don't care what bowl, or who it's against. Throw out the records of each team; the history books will say (if we win) we beat an SEC team in a January bowl game in the state of Florida. That is positive momentum for the program, especially since Tom Allen is trying to expand the footprint of our program and recruit in SEC territory, specifically Florida. -
(2021) SF - Aminu Mohammed to Georgetown
AKHoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
2021 class has gotta be the biggest disappointment recruiting-wise in recent memory, based on expectations. No disrespect to Logan Duncomb because I think he'll be a really good player for us. But man, all the in state talent we were in on plus Mohammed and Mason Miller. Huge whiff. -
Neither. Agent stuff.
-
I saw that happen live, it was quite odd. I almost didn't believe what I was seeing. One of their assistant coaches was consoling the kid like he was a child. Oh, and some rumors out there on Brooks. Basically he may be ineligible currently, the calf injury is a cover.
-
Welp I'd say it's about time to head over to Rupp Rafters.

Georgia doesn't get that scholarship to give until Fall 2021. If he wants to go to UGA and enroll after the semester break, he'll need to pay his own way for a semester.
