Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
AKHoosier replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Maybe someone told Brad Stevens he can still drink Dunkin' Donuts, swerve around cars in traffic, and root for the Patriots in Bloomington too. -
I wasn't referring to you, just quoting you. I agree with your post 100%.
-
Evidently we can throw out mediocre coaching records for some candidates, but it's normally reserved for those who went to IU. Somehow they'll magically improve when they get back to Bloomington.
-
IU guy. Again, I don't think he's that plugged in though.
-
The main Rivals writer for IU believes the job goes to one of Beilein, Woodson, or Cheney. I'm not sure how connected he is though. That list is so depressing that it just may be right.
-
Or Patrick Ewing and Penny Hardaway. And they didn't have to learn on the job at a school with massive expectations in an absolute meatgrinder of a conference. IU is a hell of a place to "learn as you go".
-
The more time goes by, the bigger of a rebuilding job IU will appear to be with how many of our guys are in the transfer portal. This could rival the mess Tom Crean inherited in 2008, minus the sanctions and character problems.
-
Awesome, glad you're excited about the prospect of hiring him and not having to put yourself through exhaustive mental gymnastics to get on board. Just ask yourself one question, and you can lie if you want to: If Purdue had a vacancy and was set to hire Mike Woodson, and assuming you want our hated rival to fail, how would you feel about their chances of doing so? And for the record, I'm not trying to make him into a flaming pile of crap. If we hired him, we would probably be pretty average. I thought by firing Archie, we're trying to be better than average for once.
-
I think you answered your own question with facts. In his 6th season as a head coach, he won 64% of his games. So based on that, after 6 years on the job, we have a 20-11 record to look forward to. We'll be right back where we started in a few years if that's what we can expect. Oh, he made the playoffs in the NBA? Over half of the teams in the NBA make the playoffs. You are literally more likely than not to make the playoffs in today's NBA. He's also 63 years old. Aside from a few diehard fans on this board, no one even knows who he is. I'm 35 and I've been an IU fan all my life, and I couldn't tell you what IU team he played on or what he accomplished. And if I can't, no way in hell a current in-state high school recruit can. That is a huge built-in disadvantage. If he went to Penn State, Virginia, or literally ANYWHERE else, no one would give him the slightest bit of consideration. This is getting out of hand. I'm seriously disturbed by the number of people getting on board with the potential of hiring Woodson.
-
So there is someone who shall remain nameless I had a feeling whose source isn't as connected as they used to be. On another board, I posted that a certain Purdue recruit was having second thoughts, and was heavily considering decommitting and going somewhere else. He quoted me saying he was hearing the same thing, and named a few schools he supposedly heard the recruit was considering. The problem? I made it all up. None of it was true. Someone who people see as an "insider" supposedly verified a completely fake rumor.

If we're afraid to lose Beard to Texas then that's pathetic. $6M at a basketball school with our following has to be an intriguing challenge for him.

Candidate Thread: Becky Hammon (San Antonio Spurs Assistant)
AKHoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The only reason you know who she is is because she sits down to pee. Of course the players say they love her, and I'm sure they do. That isn't a reason to hire her though. -
Are we going to Address the BIG TEN Elephant in the room?
AKHoosier replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This is what happens when the B1G front office allows Wisconsin and Michigan State to throw their weight around dictating how basketball can be played in conference. There's a reason this conference only signs a few 5* players every year, and it isn't because all of our programs are clean. No one wants to put on a basketball jersey to play football inside. -

Kill this idea with fire. Then scatter the ashes. Just no. -
There goes the theory that our players aren't entering the transfer portal because they know a home run is already lined up.
-
We would be an absolute laughingstock if we came up with $10M to buy out Archie only to bring in Mike Woodson. A week ago, the rest of the B1G was very worried we were on the verge of landing Brad Stevens. Now, they're giddy with anticipation at the thought of us hiring Mike Woodson.
-
I agree, they're definitely not shedding any tears for us when we're down.
-
Mike Woodson. Woof. If Brad Stevens was the grand slam, Mike Woodson is striking out looking.
-
We'll hire either Fife or Musselman. Dark horse is Porter Moser of Loyola Chicago.

Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
AKHoosier replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Seriously, recruiting here could take off here in an amazing way. Having a coach with a multiple Final 4 and NBA pedigree is a massive asset. And Ronald Nored would kill it here on the recruiting trail. He'd be such an asset to the program I can hardly contain my excitement if he were to follow Brad here. -

This is what I've spent more time than I'd like to admit thinking about, who would be on Brad's staff. I'd have to think Ronald Nored and Michael Lewis would be shoe-ins. Other than that no idea. I know he might irk some, but man I'd like Dakich on the staff to be honest. -
No disrespect intended, but I don't believe donors contribute to a $10M buyout to get Nate Oats, Eric Musselman, or even Scott Drew. I hate being optimistic sometimes, but I'm feeling like Dolson's in the process of reeling in a really big fish.
-
I really hope Armaan Franklin stays. That'd be a tough loss.
-
Archie gone, and I'm in Maui right now. I love my life.

Fred Glass waited until the first day of the tournament to fire Crean. I'm not savvy enough to know if that's because we tried to steal the headlines of that day, or if that was Glass trying to bury the news amidst a huge sports day.
