never said they did just they needed a little luck to win. I guess I misunderstood you. One could say Steve Fisher lucked into a championship at Michigan when bill frieder took the Arizona st job in the final week of the season leaving Fisher with a loaded team for the tounament
-
while you need talent you also need luck on your side as well. Nc state wins a national championship on an air ball shot that happened to get dunked by another player under the basket Was that luck or talent?
-
it almost always takes a little luck to win a national title

@mattmosley It's rare for Kelvin Sampson to enter a game with the least amount of sanctions. I found this gem retweeted by Doug gottlieb

i can if I'm only talking about this years resume. I wasn't comparing Duke I just used them as an example of another high profile team that has a couple of wins against ncaa quality opponents for this years tounament. If I wanted to talk about the state of the iu program as compared to Duke the last 17 years I would of started a thread about that or waited until some else did and post in it. There's other teams I could of used that don't have many quality wins against NCAA type teams. Why on earth would anyone compare iu's situation with dukes in the last 20 years. They are a powerhouse we are not. I think you are stuck on the fact the my conversation is in a fire Tim crean thread and I posted it as an excuse. In reality I was just making an observation and comparing 2 resumes for this years tournament I probably should of moved it to the college basketball thread.

he was also his point guard on pitono's providence final four team in 1987

we were strictly talking about the resumes for this years 2016 March madness tounament so I would assume whoever was in that conversation cares who they have beaten. I could care less if they won last year or if they win the next year after I was specifically talking about their resume for this year so far in the season and the point remains iu is their best win this year. That will change when they start playing North Carolina, Virginia, Louisville just like are best win so far is notre dame but that will change when we play iowa, Maryland at home. but to get back on topic fire tom crean

i would say there are at least 25 teams that could be a title contender. This has the feel of the Kentucky vs uconn title game ( 7 seed vs 8 seed )
-
ok im only talking about this years Duke and iu team. Bailey said we might not have beaten a tounament team this year I simply pointed out that iu is dukes best win this year. Thanks for refresher on creans previous 17 years of coaching though I hadn't seen anyone post about it in a few days.

(2016) SG Rawle Alkins to Arizona

i wonder how many possible tourney teams Duke has beaten this year? Iu is their best win with vcu being second. You would think Georgetown would be a good win but our win over Ipfw (69) is a better resume win then their Georgetown win (103)
-
same can be said about Duke we are their best win of the year

(2016) SG Rawle Alkins to Arizona

From a couple days ago https://www.sny.tv/college-recruiting/news/in-return-home-rawle-alkins-wins-mvp-says-kobi-simmons-recruiting-him-to-arizona/162124108 I don't think humble is in his vocabulary. The more I see his interviews the more I feel he could be a whitehead at seton hall more trouble then what he is worth. I don't know Wayne what are your thoughts on his quotes in this article confident or cocky? The quote that I didn't care for was the one where he said that he won mvp of those tournaments and so those guys won't steal his shine if he went to Arizona -

that was in 2000 and guyton, haston, and fife were on the team not calbert's team

the leftys from Pepperdine what a horrific performance by the Hoosiers in that game

lunardi had 6 projected teams in the field last year from the big 10 (he had us first out) 7 of the 14 teams ended up making the dance. Wisconsin was the only really good team from the big 10 last year with everyone else that made the dance a 4 seed or lower. While me and you know Michigan st was a good team they still was a 7 seed. Project to this year and lunardi has 6 teams making the field just as he did last year and has Iowa, Maryland, and Michigan st getting top 3 seeds. To me that doesn't sound like a conference being the weakest it's been in 20 years. I was just pointing out what the committee would consider a win with substance and a top 100 win is just that in my opinion when getting a better seed. If you dig deeper every school is judged by their top 100 wins no matter what year a coaches tenure it might be. This is Indiana at least that's what I keep telling myself the last 20 years and we shouldn't have to worry about missing the tounament each year. I have never questioned wheather we would make it this year I just thought we would of separated ourselves with the top 8 teams this year that obviously didn't happen and we are just another team that has flaws but can get hot and make a run in the tournament. Having said all of this I still think we should strive to be better and great and that starts with the coach. We have the same goals with this program just different views on certain subjects within the program. Crean is who he is.....an average coach that has had some success. He was a division one coach before iu and he could be a division one coach after his time here hopefully some time in the near future. Good discussion

McDonald's All American Weekend- March 28th- April 1st

they offered Eron Gordon early as well who was rated higher at that time. Offering early is fine but prioritizing Gordon after that initial offer turned out to not be the right decision in my opinion -

Uspshoosier replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
i believe they were in it but like Purdue, butler, and notre dame, iu focused on higher ranked players in Indiana at that time (Gordon). Guy has stated in interviews one reason he committed to Virginia was they didn't make him feel like a 2nd or 3rd option. When he committed he was a low 4 recruit to his credit and hard work he turned into a 5 star McDonald's All American and made the local teams look bad for not targeting him higher. -
