IU vs Illinois Game Thread - 1/7 @ 5:00 ET
Uspshoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The win against Illinois moved Indiana from 139 rpi to 100 rpi in espn rpi rankings. Yes most people should know Illinois isn't that good of team but who cares it improved IU's rpi which at the end of the day is all that matters. Ps just because people are pointing out positives from this game doesn't necessarily mean they are still on board with the coaching or style of play. There are still plenty of opportunities for this team to improve their tourney resume or plenty of opportunities to make it worse. Hopefully minny keeps up their good play and remain top 5 rpi until we play them Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Maybe one day the committee will care about kenpom rankings but until then they still use the outdated rpi system which they were 33. You and I both know they are not that good but it really doesn't matter what we think. Ever since I took lunardi's bracketology class from st joes online i look at teams differently when judging them Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I know that's why I said these numbers will change but since all B1G teams rpi are around the same area do u really believe they will drop all they way out of the top 100 rpi? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

It's worst then that those are our only top 150 wins. 4 losses to top 50 teams and 1 loss to 150 (ipfw) Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Not decent enough for some fans on a message board but numbers wise it was considered a good win. Illinois has the 3rd best rpi of big 10 teams (37). Iu (rpi is 137). So technically( going by committee's criteria) that was a bad loss for Illinois. These numbers will change as the season moves forward but to say Illinois is a total garbage team when the they have wins against Nc state, byu, Vcu, and ohio st ( all top 100 wins) is inaccurate in my opinion. (2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
Uspshoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
From what i saw when I watched him play. Absolutely he could of gone to a better school. When watching warmups and not knowing the players I guessed butz was Brooks just by how above the rim he was in warm ups. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Groce also got beat by a combine 60 points in 2 games last year by a crean coached team

I don't think it helps that he recruits really young kids in their class. A sophomore Bryant and OG are still younger then a freshman Davis. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

No I'm just as enthusiastic about tomorrow's game as every other IU game I have watched in my 39 years. For me, watching a poorly coach Indiana basketball team is better then watching no Indiana basketball. Like many on this board in our group of friends or family, we are known as the Indiana basketball guy or gal. If I tried to not watch a game I would know if they won or lost just by the amount of texts I would receive from friends talking about a big win or talking me off of a bridge or just rubbing in a bad loss. Iu basketball is a part of my identity. I can understand people who have had enough with crean and the constant turnovers and wishing they lose or just not caring anymore but i cannot follow down that path. A lot of people on here say we r stuck with crean and deal with it I have a different outlook, Indiana basketball is stuck with me as a fan. I rode with them with knight in the good days and rode with knight through the Early exits in the tournament years( the lefties on Pepperdine team still haunts me), I have rode with them in the Davis and Sampson years, and I will ride with them however long the creans years end of being. Groce better tactician and bench coach really? If u would of said that about any other coach in the B1G I would of agree with u but groce makes crean look like a above average coach. Illinois has had 5 or 6 +25 losses in the last 12 months(2 last year to crean). Creans not the guy for here but man tough crowd when Groce is praised as a better option. There are some good mid major matchups tonight: Iona vs Monmouth, Rhode Island at Dayton and Oakland vs Valpo Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

He has started out big 10 play on fire. He definitely wasn't playing like this in the non conference in the games I watched Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Iowa has been impressive in how not to close out a game Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

The B1G will have close games every night. Not much separation between the teams. Wisky can separate themselves Saturday if they beat Purdue at Mackey Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Out of high school neither iu or Purdue recruited him even though he played at Ben Davis. Both of them jumped in when he transferred from Virginia tech Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

And Trevor Thompson missing a free throw and then proceed to make one of the dumbest fouls u could make on the next possession Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

That same team that found a way to win a close game on the road also found a way to lose a close game at home Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

My man Frankie Ferrari and the dons might take care of the zags tonight. When I watched them beat Utah earlier in the year they looked decent plus when u have a player named Frankie Ferrari that has to count for something Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

We must might know they are terrible but numbers wise if we win it will be against a top 30 rpi team (30) Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
