Makes sense basketball people try and stay connected to the game they love and make a living in. Through coaching I'm sure coaches make friends that will last longer then after they are done coaching. When rice was fired from unlv crean invited him down for a couple of days just so he was still around the game. After knight was fired Cuban invited him to the mavericks practices Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

From Brian snow The Indiana Hoosiers filled their coaching position with Archie Miller. Here is a look at what he has done on the recruiting trail in his time as both an assistant and head coach On Saturday afternoon the Indiana Hoosiers made their men’s basketball coaching hire and they chose Dayton’s Archie Miller. Miller recently completed his sixth season as head coach with his fourth trip consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Before getting to Dayton, Miller was an assistant coach at Arizona State, Ohio State, and Arizona, so he is more than familiar with the high-major recruiting scene, and has excelled on the recruiting trail throughout his career. As a head coach he has had two very impressive classes at Dayton. The first was this past graduating senior class in which he battled high-major programs for players such as Scoochie Smith out of New York and Kendall Pollard out of Chicago. Those two were stalwarts of the Flyers program and each multi-year starters who really played a big role in the success the team had. Also this incoming success featured going guard McKinley Wright who had multiple high-major offers and shooting guard Jordan Davis from South Carolina who has on the high-major radar. This 2017 class combined with class of 2016 academic redshirt, and four-star prospect Kostas Antetokounmpo were expected to be the heart and soul of the Flyers for the next several years. As an assistant at Arizona, Miller was instrumental in getting players such as Derrick Williams and Solomon Hill to commit to the program immediately upon getting the job. Before that at Ohio State, Miller played a significant role in getting Jordan Sibert and Aaron Craft to stay home and attend school in Columbus. Also Miller has a good relationship with some in Indiana. One of the biggest gets of his career was Fort Wayne native Steve McElvene. McElvene was seen as a tremendous get, and was set to have a great career in Dayton before tragically passing away this off season. Still Miller developed a good relationship with the coaches of the high powered Spiece Indy Heat program, and he has continued to recruit in the state of Indiana for the past several years. Overall Miller is seen as somebody with a lot of ability to develop and cultivate relationships. Miller has high-major experience on the recruiting trail, but also knows how hard you have to work as a coach of a non-power league program. In general this is a coach who is a very good recruiter, and should work hard for Indiana on the trail with a focus on regional recruits, and then spreading nationally to try and land stars. For people wondering who he recruited at Ohio st and Arizona Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Uspshoosier replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He can play first semester for Dayton next year. As far as the rule on if a red shirt who's coach leaves could that player transfer without missing another year would be a good question to ask. Technically a red shirt uses up a scholly and the player practices with the team ( in his case he could practice with them starting the second semester as a partial qualifier) Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

http://games.espn.com/tournament-challenge-bracket/2017/en/entry?entryID=14142533 Raises hand I agree with everything you said. The tournament is just to unpredictable. A lot of luck involved. Gonzaga made a final 4 playing a 16,8,4, and 11 and can make the championship game by playing a 7 or 4. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Mike DeCourcy, Sporting News: “I think it’s a tremendous hire. I knew all along that Indiana was the kind of place that Archie was waiting to hear from. He had a lot of opportunities after the Elite Eight run in 2014. He’s been very smart and very patient about his next career step. He’s taken one of the best jobs in college coaching. “The first thing that stands out is he’s about as competitive a coach as I’ve come across. You don’t get far without that being one of your main personality traits. You have to be highly, highly competitive. Just like there are great shooters and then there’s Rick Barry, there are guys like Arch who have another tick, that even the above-average guys don’t have. He’s really intense. He’s really driven. He’s really smart.” “One of the first things that impressed me when he went to Dayton was the people he gathered around him with Kevin Kuwik, Bill Comar, Tom Ostrom and Allen Griffin. They’re all really sharp guys. There are no hangers-on there, nobody just collecting a check. “They all contributed at a high level to Dayton’s success. I’m not sure what will be his next step about his staff at IU. I’m sure a lot of those guys will be a part of it. He was really smart about building a staff that would work at a high level.” Some have made comments about Indiana not hiring a “big-name” coach. What are your thoughts about that? “I would like to see the list of programs that have hired a quote unquote big name and were celebrating in the Final Four five years later or 10 years later,” DeCourcy said. “How many are there? Obviously, Kentucky hired John Calipari, but it is not often you have guys like Cal at Memphis and you can get him from there. “There are elite coaches like Archie Miller, like Chris Collins, like a Gregg Marshall. They hired the one they felt fit them the best. We don’t know if other coaches were discussed or approached. “They found the one in that group that works for them. I don’t know how much bigger a name you can get than a guy who has coached in four consecutive NCAA Tournaments and has been to an Elite Eight. Maybe Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan, but those guys aren’t leaving the NBA.” Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
