I definitely know how it works. I also know that actual results on the court matter as well. If you think Kentucky started out being fine with Pope I’m not sure what to tell you. You want people to believe that Kentucky went into last coaching cycle being fine with a coach that at the WCC level didn’t win and conference championship or conference tourney. Lost as a 6 seed (conference season was shortened) to an 11 seeded ucla team, missed the next 2 tourneys. Moved to the Big 12 where they gamed the NET and smashed a bunch of terrible teams early to inflate their predictive metrics (I know a little about metrics) and then held on for dear life in the Big 12 conference to get a 6 seed in the tourney where their proceeded to lose in the first round to Duquesne that had to win their conference tourney just to make it. I love mark Pope as coach but for anyone to say that Kentucky of all places were fine bringing him in as their first choice as coach is mistaken -

Quality of opponent absolutely matters in the rating. Beating up LMU, Pacific, etc doesn’t really matter to me to bolster up their POM. It’s how you do against the teams with actual pulses and since BYU joined the conference even with him coaching they never sniffed winning the conference title or conference tourney title. Still got owned by St Mary’s and Zags. They were supposed to challenge those to when they came over from their other conference -

Nothing to be confused about. People don’t want him. at least not on this free message board. Might have better luck on a different free message board -

Pat Kelsey at college of Charleston and Mark Pope of Utah valley and BYU were better options? I’m guessing IU fans will takes their chances like those 2 schools did and hire down a level instead of hiring a coach that hasn’t coached in 4 years -

Depends if they coach in the B1G or Sec. if they do then I agree with you it will be difficult however if it’s a coach outside of those 2 conferences then the fact that the B1G and SEC are cash cows compared to the other league those coaches will definitely consider the jump. Furthermore even if it’s a successful mid major coach a program he will have no problem moving on To IU. It’s what they do. Lastly there is nothing else to think about on this free message board regarding Turgeon. A poll was made and he finished dead last. You might try and push him on another IU free message board or pay the premium and push him on a premium IU message board but as far as this one goes. It’s over. No one is going to have an open mind to him coaching. Pushing him moving forward is just trolling as you have seen the data and the pushback. Good luck pushing him on the other boards -
You know it’s a slow night when Green Bay is making it on a TV

A coach in his 60s when he took his first college coaching job of his career. I think it’s as simple as that. All he knew as a coach was the NBA game. When you have spent 30 + years coaching in a entirely different sport and think you can come in the college game and because it’s below the NBA you think you can just step in and pick it up right away is the wrong approach. Not just Woody almost every nba guy that has come into the college game has failed. I don’t think they know just how much of a grind being a college basketball coach really is. Listen to any college basketball lifer talk and they say it takes part of your life away in the business. You have limited life outside of being the coach. It never stops. Ego of being from the NBA and thinking the college game is inferior probably has something to do with it as well. You want to be successful in college you have to put the work in and grind. Bottom line Woody didn’t want to grind and now we are looking for a grinder to lead this program back. Hopefully Otzelberger doesn’t sign an extension and wants to grind in Bloomington -

All depends on how you view IU. Some still think this program is a coach away from being back on top after 25 plus years of mediocrity while others might feel IU needs to grind their way back to the top of the sport and that might result in hiring a coach that most fans think the program too good for that coach even though the results from the program say otherwise. -
Only 1 it looks like he he doesn’t really play any

Yeah. Having a coach with 0 college basketball coaching experience coach your program was never going to work regardless of the talent someone surrounded him with. Every college basketball coached being mentioned for this job in this thread is leaps and bounds going to put IU in a better position then they have been in the last 4 years -

All depend on what others would do but from past experience Texas last year was a 7 seed and they finished 9-9 in conference and was 5-10 in Q1 games -

Because I’ve only seen Collins coach at a program that had 0 history and no real backing to become successful and he built his own history at a place that had none. I think ( my opinion) that if he ever coaches at a place they actually gives a crap about winning big that he would elevate that program and compete at a high level. I don’t think Crean, Davis or Archie’s team ever played as hard as I’ve seen Collins teams play. I personally think he is a better coach than the 3 you mentioned. -

Yep and before he got to Northwestern they had 0 ncaa tourney appearances for the entire program. He has taken a program that had 0 history and gave them a history. Maybe he isn’t good enough for most to take over IU however I know one thing, if he was the coach of IU I wouldn’t have to worry about whether or not the team I’m invested in would play hard. Personally i would be interested to see how he would do at a program that actually has a little basketball history and resources -
Mid major type of night. Only 1 high major game at 9. Rutgers/Michigan on Peacock Chattanooga/UNCG is game of the night
