General Coach Candidate News

McDermott lost his best transfer portal guard Pop Isaacs early in the year when he was playing the best basketball of his career. He has Creighton in position to be tied for first with St. John’s at the top of Big East if they beat St John’s on Sunday -

Hard to do when people in here are turning their nose up at a candidate like McDermott who has been ranked by some publications as a top 15 coach in the game right now. Coaching in the Big East a conference that has produced 4 national champions while he has been coaching in the Big East and competing at the top of the conference where he is working on his 6 straight year with a winning conference record of at least 5 games over .500. IU fans are working on watching their program the last 9 years where they have seen only 1 year where their team finished above .500 and that was 12-8 3 games back from first. You are right IU should set the bar higher then not Mike Woodson however maybe some fans should see that maybe that a coach like McDermott wouldn’t be as bad as they think. -

Not that deep. It’s a free message board. He should probably show his friends how much fun the people in here was having the last 2 days. Mods put a disclaimer up in this thread that warned the information could turn out to be true or not so people were giving a heads up and use their own discretion. Coaching search is in its infancy stage. Much more fun to be had at BT Banners in the coming weeks -

This place will still rock and be fun throughout this coaching cycle. Mods did put a disclaimer out in this thread that some information may or may not end up being true. One less coaching thread candidate we have to make -

Beating Kansas St and Vandy on a neutral court. Really good wins for a Program like Drake nothing special just yet. The argument against that would be he hasn’t had an opportunity to play the Elite level teams just yet -

He is doing a phenomenal job at West Virginia in his first year. Lost his best player (his son) and still beat Kansas on the road and 4 top 10 wins. They have lost some recently but he can coach. He would be in my list as well. -

He is 3rd on the latest hot board released so something has happened to push in to 3rd when he wasn’t on the first 2 hot boards -

Because he is a really good coach that has proven he can coach at the Power 4 level. You probably won’t have to worry about it though because history tells you sitting Power 4 coaches don’t make lateral moves to other Power 4 teams during coaching searches. Usually teams have to go down a level or levels to get their coach -

If McDermott takes the job he would be leaving a place that averages more fans at their home games then IU does. Creighton is 6th in attendance while IU was 7th -

Bad fit maybe. Since then he went to Creighton and the Big East which is a Power 4 conference and has won consistently. -

Proven at the Power 4 level. That’s what this comes down to. McDermott has competed in the Big East where 4 National Championship teams have came from. He has held his own in the conference which in some years was considered the best in all of college basketball. I think McCollum would kill it however comparing D2 level success compared to someone doing it at the Power 4 isn’t apples to apples. If you want a proven Power 4 winner McDermott is the choice regardless of age. If you want a younger non Power 4 coach that has shown the ability to win at a lower level in the D2 ranks you take McCollum. -

I think he is a really good coach that will stay out West. With no Midwest ties and all his ties being West I don’t think he would leave. Really good coach though -

Palm is one the worst national guys year in and year out. That’s very generous for his projection. I got them First 4 out with them being the 4th team out -

I guess but making a sweet 16 at a place like Virginia Tech is impressive. Not sure when you are at a place like Virginia tech you are expected to be competing for conference titles. A&M not really known for being a basketball powerhouse and he has done some good things there in his time. 15-3 conference record and finishing second seems impressive to me. I get it though IU should be in a place where they can do better however from my point of view he is the exact kind of coach IU needs if the top guys say no. College basketball grinder
