Crunching numbers and splitting hairs on this one. IU, which is supposed to have a good defense, gives up an average of 66 points/game. Minny gives up 68. So we are pretty close defensively. OTOH IU has an offensive average of 72, despite having a poor offense. Minny is actually worse with an average of 68. Looking at it another way IU stands at 72-66, while Minny is 68-68. Even at home Minny should struggle to get to 68 against the IU defense. IU might struggle to get to our average of 72. Last basket wins. IU 70 - Minny 66

Think I'll count how many times tonight 5 guys in white stand around as we lob the ball to #23 and watch him try to force up a shot over a double or triple team. I make the chances of IU winning this game about 55/45 or even closer. If this was an honest betting site the money would be close to evenly split. Sitting in 4th place. This isn't a good game to make a move and go out on a limb. Just not that confident and beside I enjoy watching the game more when I'm not rooting against myself. Homer? Maybe. But also trying to be smart. Less chance of getting hurt badly if I follow the crowd this game.

Play this game in Bloomington and IU wins. Play this game at a neutral site and IU probably win. Play this game at Maryland and I'm tossing a coin. I see this one as razor close. IU doesn't like to win on the road and we are short handed at point guard. If this wasn't a homer board the majority would pick Maryland. Hope my Hoosiers don't make me regret this pick. Kills me to pick against the Hoosiers, but we have a lot going against us. Don't expect Jackson-Davis to be 100%. Point guard play will kill us down the stretch. The Purdue winning streak will put a hex on us. On the other hand we are at home and Coach WILL BE WEARING A SUIT. IU - 73 Purdue - 74

Don't see much hope at point guard. Johnson - Terrible shot. Overly emotional. Every wild shot, drive into traffic, off balance beg for a foul from the refs is a turnover. Phinissee - Can handle the ball against the press but can't shoot a lick. Been trying to get the job done for 3 1/2 years. Gonna suddenly get the job done now? Wouldn't bet on it. Landers - On the way to being a bust. This team is begging for a point guard and he can't get off the bench. That just tells you something. Galloway - He is a wing pressed into service as a guard. Pressing him into service as a point guard is asking far too much. The handle just isn't there. Against the press he is a deer in the headlights. Outside shot is also suspect. Leave him on the wing where he can slash and dish or shoot that drop shot. Bates - Is the only one that might have the chops. Offensively I think he might be an improvement on what we have. Don't know about the defense. I'd give him more time and see if any thing develops. Can't see any other way out of this problem. Who would have thought that losing Durham and Franklin would hurt us this much.

Can IU win this game? Yes! Will I be pulling for the Hoosiers? You betcha! Am I going to pick them? Nope! Despite our much improved defense, we are going up against the #3 offense in the country. We have yet to prove we can win on the road and we will certainly be facing a hostile crowd. We are going to slow Iowa down but the question is whether our offense is good enough to catch up. See this game looking a lot like the Penn State game where we end up saying, "Don't these guys ever miss?" Hope I'm wrong. IU 74 U of I 77
