I don't know how it's Crean's fault here? They obviously liked him enough to make an offer, which makes complete sense. He's no bum by any means. And Max obviously liked Crean/IU enough to accept it and move to Bloomington, Indiana. And I have no clue what you mean about not knowing how good he is or how to use him. He's a freshman, so he played standard freshman minutes. He didn't do much to impress anyone when he got on the court, but that's the standard progression of a freshman. Unless your a nationally rated guy or an otherwise special talent, you won't make an impact for a few years. I'm guessing Max just got homesick and thought he'd better off at a school closer to Cali. Where's the harm in any of this?

Lack of playing time is the standard reason for transferring. Home is a long way away... no harm in wanting to find a spot where you will have a bigger impact and your folks can watch you play.
-
This shouldn't surprise anyone. No impact on the court, super far away from home & family. He's getting out with 3 years left so he has a chance to catch on somewhere else and hopefully grow into a solid player. It's very possible he could have developed into a contributor at IU, but the situation wasn't right. Better get out now than later. I'm sure he'll end up somewhere in California.

I have thought about this around Tournament time every year since he was hired at UK. I would rather he win and bail.

Stan Robinson transferring
WindyCitySource replied to ThompsonHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's legal within Washington DC now, too, so he can go back home! Sorry I don't really mean to poke fun. The fact that athletes get in so much trouble for smoking weed is absurd. You have to be smart and avoid breaking the rules/law, but the fact that there is still such a stigma attached to pot is a joke. -
Stan Robinson transferring
WindyCitySource replied to ThompsonHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not Creaning. Like many have said, Stan needs a fresh start and a change of scenery. Best of luck to him. Now IU just needs two more spots to open up. I'm guessing we will be saying goodbye to some scholarship players that spent must of their time at the end of the bench. Three guys to choose from. -
Interesting development... Herb Sendek fired at Arizona State. Could you imagine if the Sun Devils pulled Archie? Brother v Brother at least twice a year?! Imagine the battles! Imagine the RECRUITING battles!

Agreed... a great IU team :)

(2016) C Thon Maker
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Having said that, it's encouraging to be mentioned along side UK and KU this late in the recruitment. Tom Crean may not be the best coach in the country, but no one can knock his work ethic. If we land Maker, it will be because of that. Not a lot of schools possess a coach with that ability right now. Cal, K, Self, Roy, etc have a lot more to sell than Crean does, so TC has to put in a lot more legwork. Crean has recruited star players to a bad team before and now he has a much better roster to sell. I doubt IU could take Maker and Bryant (would they even want to play together in their only year of college?) so it'll be interesting to see how these recruitments play out. -
(2016) C Thon Maker
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I see Maker either at UK or nowhere... there's talk he may not even play in college. He's still trying to finish high school to reclassify. If that doesn't work, I doubt he sticks around in high school or prep school for another year. -
I tend to agree here, though the big name jobs really aren't out there right now. DePaul is going after Bryce Drew, Mississippi State is getting Howland... that leaves Alabama as the only power conference job currently open (IIRC). Can't see Archie going down there... Obviously more dominoes will fall in the coming weeks/months, but as of now I can't see him jumping anywhere. Unless maybe DePaul wants him?
-
Wasn't his past work with big men part of the draw when he was hired? Never saw much of that unless he's the reason that Holt played such solid minutes this year.

Troy Williams returning to IU!!!!!!
WindyCitySource replied to HoosierSadaseci's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hoping Troy experiences the "Oladipo bump" this offseason. Time to go from Honorable Mention to All-Big Ten. -
Thoughts on WSU Coach Gregg Marshall
WindyCitySource replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He looks exactly like Crean. To the point where during the game, the fact that he was wearing a grey suit (which TC would never wear) was the only thing differentiating the two of them from most angles. -
Agler, Brooks, Stratman and Muensterman leaving IUWBB

True that
-
Well I guess I can't argue with your personal opinion. Nor did I intend to. I'm just here to point out the hypocrisy that $716k is too much to spend on recruiting and building a program, but $12m is more than fair to pay a coach to go away.
-
The whole point of this thread (and the linked article) is comparing IU's recruiting budget (among other things) to Purdue's. That's where the comparison comes from... not me.
-
Great.. still 5x more than the recruiting budget people are complaining about. Also, neither of those things is going to happen.
-
LOL ok... $11.2 million or $7.5 million or whatever it ends up as... the point is the same.
-
Also, how are we not looking at the revenue numbers here?! IU is bringing in 3x as much revenue on Men's BB ticket sales than Purdue. They make $6m more in ticket sales alone and spend just $500k more on recruiting.
-
Hopefully the people complaining about $716k in recruiting costs aren't at the same time calling for a $12 million buyout of Crean's contract. Which one is the real waste? Recruiting costs money. Not all of that money was spent on 2 players... you recruit a lot of guys you don' get. Money has been spent on guys they are still recruiting. And I guarantee you the amount of money spent on Priller and April was negligible compared to the full-court press on guys like Blackmon.

Potential fallout from coaching change
WindyCitySource replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Right I gotcha... I sort of combined a response to you and a response to the thread in general into one. Didn't mean to direct that all at you! -
Potential coaching change suggestions
WindyCitySource replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That combo is 11-18 (3-13) right now at Saint Louis. -

Who said anything about a place holder? I would rather see them keep Crean if they are waiting for Stevens.
