(2025) QB - Julian Lewis to Colorado (for now)
Demo replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
What’s up with the guitar? I’ve seen that in several of the pics from his visit. -
Now you’ve done it. I’m at home with an uncooperative back so I have nothing better to do than think about this. It could go on for a minute. Off the top of my head and in order of when they played: 1) McGinnis- the anti-Perea. Not a great vertical athlete, but everything else was positively ahead of his time. Upper and lower body strength, 1st step quickness, long speed, change of direction, body control and 1 of the best sets of hands I’ve seen in basketball. If a basketball generation is 15 years, Mac may not have been a generation ahead, he might have been 2. At his peak he was Barkley at 6’8” instead of 6’4”. 2) Wilkerson- In the mid-70’s 6’7” guys who were probably plus-6 or so with effortless change of direction and body control and legit 40 inch verts basically didn’t exist. As a defensive toolkit he was rare to the point of maybe unique for his time. In the F4 against UCLA he took Raymond Townsend, who was a really good college PG, and smothered that guy. 3) Smart- probably some upper body stiffness and not great hands from being #1 on an IU list. Length, strength at his size, 1 and 2 foot explosiveness, speed end to end, 1st step, change of direction, all elite. 4) Oladipo- that a 6’4” 205lb dude could beat literally any defender at all with his 1st step, I’ll never get over how easily he could do it. And then he just had the whole toolkit past that. His body breaking down was such a shame.

The really stunning one is Georgia which doesn’t have any basketball factories like Lalumiere, just an insane number of kids who can play. -
2 things: 1) Before Newton got hurt I would 100% agree. Hopefully X has seen enough and isn’t just talking. 2) In no universe was Hanner the most athletic player to play at IU unless change of direction, body control, hands and short area quickness are suddenly not part of an athletic profile.

Can’t imagine why any NBA HC with real long term prospects would seriously consider the move. As much as everyone likes to throw around the “IU is Woody’s dream job” thing like it’s gospel, if IU had approached Woody after Sampson when the program was a smoking crater and he was in solidly with the Hawks that guy would’ve laughed out loud. What might be interesting to watch is what happens with a guy like Kevin Young at BYU. Going after a young Asst before they’re established might be an interesting tack. Suppose IU has a good enough year next year that Woody can rationalize riding into the sunset. Would they consider a guy like Ron Nored? He’s something like 35 and he’s gonna be an NBA HC in the not too distant future. Carlisle gushed about him and you watch video of him, dude’s got it. Probably not, though I think it’s a thought, but now that you can win anywhere getting a youngish longterm guy who’s already having college success is no gimme.

https://x.com/Antgotclout/status/1796578804758159869 Anthony Walker stepping up for Woody. Gracious move on the young man’s part and well-said.

Vanderbeek had a shockingly good throwing motion. -

The idea that a 5-star QB could possibly de-commit from Lincoln Riley and stiff arm Kirby Smart to come to INDIANA is so utterly ridiculous that I can’t believe we’re talking about it. But Cignetti’s shear brazenness makes it impossible to ignore. -
This may be parsing words too closely, but “We’re hoping and thinking he’s going to (be) back once the season starts” isn’t the most encouraging pronouncement I’ve ever heard.

Braylon Mullins (2025) SG - to UConn

Offered by UConn. The young man has officially blown all the way up. -
Let me guess, you work for the Alaska State Dept of Tourism?
-
Wow. Major kudos to Lamont Paris for taking that one on.

I like it, but what a weirdly random power conference series. At least, I assume it’s home and home.

Tim Buckley leaving South Carolina to join Wes Miller’s staff at Cincinnati. The guy is a great add for literally any staff.

Interesting roster construction. 3 posts, 4 long wing types, 4 creators and 1 traditional 2. -

https://www.zagsblog.com/2024/05/28/malachi-moreno-updates-recruitment-after-kentuckys-mark-pope-watches-him-at-usa-camp/ Literally the same quote regarding IU as Mike’s article. Also includes some comments about other schools in his recruitment. -
Ledlum and Dingle lose in court. They’re done.

B10 Basketball Recruiting Thread

Because the national guys have all seen 1, maybe 2, Illinois games and they see a 6’5” dude playing in the B1G and make a bad assumption. Every actual B1G follower knows the deal. Another egregious example from back in the day: Chuck Hayes at UK about 20 years ago was about as pure a 6’6” post guy as you’d ever see. And every Uk game the announcers would call him a wing or a 3 as he’s pounding kids on the block because he’d hoist up 1 bad 3 per game. -

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40233577/source-lithuania-kasparas-jakucionis-commits-illinois Illinois’ starting PG just landed. Has already played with the FC Barcelona senior team in the Euroleague at 17, which is pretty nuts. Blew up at the Basketball Without Borders event, but no one recruited him because the assumption was that he’d play this year in the ABL and then go straight to the draft. Must be a smoking NIL package. -
The product is pretty damned spectacular at this point and I'd like to think that the decision makers looking at the '27 regs would be really, really careful with messing with the basics of the aero package. Just take 1 look at what's happened to F1 with the insane turbulence those things create. I will say this, and I will die on this hill: the 1 change I'd love to see to Indy, and it will never, ever, happen, is that I'd love to see the race moved to Saturday night. I went to the night race at Texas a couple of years ago and I've done the Gateway night race a few times and those cars at night look like freaking rocket ships. It is breathtaking. Those guys running 230 in prime time would be unbelievable both live and on TV. Plus, if you jack the payday up to something ridiculous, say 10 mil, you might get several Kyle Larson's wiling to cross over. Hell, you might even get somebody like Alonso back. I think the potential is there to make it into something even bigger than it is now. But, yeah, no chance.

Indy delivers every time. Love it. And it gets extra shine running the same day as Monaco, which as much as I love F1 is invariably terrible, and Charlotte, which is interesting for the 1st hundred and the last hundred and the other 400 is just riding with the occasional yellow. Indy’s a 500 mile sprint race.
