Yeah, it certainly depends how you define your terms. For me it’s a matter of if you have a dude on your bench who you know is never gonna be out-prepared, out-scouted, out-schemed and is gonna make nothing but rock solid in-game decisions without fail then you have an elite guy. There just aren’t many guys you can say that about. If you factor recruiting into that, and I don’t, then it becomes a little different thing. Example: I consider Randy Bennett not only elite, but about as good as it gets. A lot of people would disagree, but he hits all of my particular criteria. In Painter’s case, I think he’s been pretty clearly the best HC in the B1G since Beilein left. If you’re the best guy in arguably the best conference you’re pretty much elite by definition.

Yup. No universe in which that timing is good. Such a shame. Good, good player and just screams great kid.

I’m pretty amazed at the reaction to Purdue minus Edey. Yeah, Smith and Loyer are rock solid and have played a bunch of ball and Painter’s elite. But Edey’s in the conversation for the most dominant player of the last 20 years. And not just dominant, but dominant in a way you can’t duplicate. And yet his absence is being treated like, ya know, Illinois losing Coleman Hawkins. If they win the B1G this year Painter’s a Hall of Famer, I don’t care if he wins a Natty or not.

Good tough win. Made the plays they needed to make. And special honorable mention to the French HC for deciding that when the US went to DHO after DHO for Copper that he was just fine with not autoswitching it and letting the best athlete on the floor get it on the move with her defender on her shoulder. I’m behind the broadcast so it may be a 15 pt game for all I know, but it’s 47 all where I am in the broadcast and I don’t get why Griner’s not playing. She might be exploitable defensively but they don’t have a defense problem, they’ve got an offense problem and France has no matchup for her. She can get a good look every trip.

This has been brutal and the way it’s being called is exacerbating it. Is Ionescu hurt? I mean you!ve got a clear spacing problem and the best shooter in the sport’s not playing?

2 things: 1) Not hot take-y in any way. That’s legit. Malin’s terrific. D Generation was a really fantastic band. Then he evolved into that straightforward soulful almost rootsy guy and it was great. Would love to have seen him live but the dude just never toured and when he did he never went west of, like, Philly. Now with the health stuff I assume he’ll not go out again. Such a shame. 2) Frey is an all-time rock and roll d-bag. Took the best lineup of The Eagles and blew it up just because he could. He was way, way too proud of being an a$$hole.

The ESPN team hasn’t noticed because he hasn’t had a Sportscenter moment, but Moreno’s having a really good game. Stepped out and hit a 3. Finished plays. And he’s got to have one of the best +/- of anyone because he’s literally the only kid on the floor who’s organizing D and communicating. Love that kid.

Looking forward to seeing Reibe because I’ve never watched a second of him.
