100%. Seriously, with the exception of maybe a Final 4, what other event can possibly generate engagement like a coaching search? It is literally catnip for message boards.

That Maryland TD catch was stone nuts.

https://x.com/B1GMBBall/status/1889806120287367229 Don’t get me wrong, anybody wanting Stevens for this gig, I get it, of course. But anyone not wanting this guy, yeah, that I don’t get. And if you watch this, maybe the next guy after him gets a mention….

Ant is cold-blooded.

Yes, he very much is. And I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a kid give a staff more mulligans to get his recruitment right. “Hey guys, Coach Painter is at every one of my games. Maybe you can watch me sometime. That would be really cool and I’d, ya know, REALLY appreciate it.”

IUBB @ Michigan State - Tuesday, 02.11.25 @ 9:00 on Peacock
Demo replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can’t watch it until tonight because we were celebrating daughter #2’s 21st birthday. But got a text from a friend saying, “Woodson’s not the only 1 who should be retiring. Worst coaching job of Izzo’s career.” Quite the teaser. -
A universal suckup on your 18th post. Impressive! Not everyone can pull that off. I like the cut of your gib. Seriously, that is the 1 thing that is indisputably true.
-
Dude, if you think those guys aren’t inspiring given what they’ve done, I don’t really know what to say to that. Golden has Florida in line for a 1 seed and just kicked Bruce Pearl’s a$$ on the road and Kelsey is arguably National COY and fixed a stone dead program in 1 year.

Y’all have seen my entire history. Never posted on another board. Was looking for 1 to maintain ties to IUBB when we moved away from Indiana. Checked out the usual suspects and thought they were mostly trash. Saw this site mentioned on 1 of them, checked it out and thought it was just a good bit better. More collegial. Less reflexively contrarian. A lot of clearly good folks not just looking for a fight. Seemed like a fit. And in 12 years or whatever it’s been nobody’s said “Dude, stop writing books. You can make your points much faster.” So I think I’ll hang around.

You have no idea.

Galen has too much free time. Pick the most random dude in the Patriot League and he’d be here before Painter. Hell, Doug Gottlieb would be here before Painter.

Potential Coaches Approval Rating (Poll Closes Thursday at Midnight)
Demo replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
2 things: 1) When you look at both the poll list and the supplemental list that Crossbone dropped in, it demonstrates USPS’s argument that there are a bunch of guys with the ability to do well with the available resources here. 2) Yeah he’s not coming, but who in God’s name disapproves of Jay Wright? -
https://x.com/Balas_Wolverine/status/1888970571850842183 Not sure if this is already posted, but it was always gonna be part of it.

https://x.com/UsherNBA/status/1888668327175688236 Yeah

He’s an all-time great. And people used to try to sell us on the idea that Woody was one of those guys who was gonna die on the sidelines and you knew he wasn’t. Pitino straight up is. He will never stop.
-
Now, see, the fact that someone can provide backstory on a D-2 HC I’d only vaguely heard of is why I will never leave. Out freaking standing.
-
You want to see a pretty insane looking D2 resume, not quite McCollum, but getting there, is a guy named Jim Crutchfield, who coaches at Nova Southeastern. In the last 4 years he’s 120-5 with an elite 8, a Natty, a NC runner up(lost on a buzzer 3} and currently the #1 ranked D2 in the country. Difference from McCollum is he’s probably early 60’s. Apparently he’s a 40 mins of hell guy. They just pressure teams into submission.
-
Yeah but they aren’t a binary choice. You can win playing with pace and lose playing 55 possessions games. It’s about execution.
-
Agree. I like the way they play. It’s much better than watching some of those mid-2010’s Tony Bennett teams.
-
True, but the reason no one saw him coming was because his program was on probation for his conduct. If he’d been better at breaking rules he would have absolutely been on the radar.
-
If they bought a lottery and hired McCollum, they won’t but it’s fun to think about, I’’d be good with that. If he succeeds you don’t have to share him with another school. He’s our guy and his success is our success. But the Cig comp just doesn’t work. 2 reasons: 1) Cig had 5 full years of success at the FCS level. Additionally he was the recruiting coordinator at arguably the greatest program in the history of CFB. That’s a lot more resume than winning D2 Nattys. It just is. 2) the expectations for the job Cig took and the next IUBB HC are hell and gone different. If Cig had gone 6-6 he wouldn’t be a God at the moment but we would have been fine with it. If McCollum came here and went 15-15, Houston, we have a problem, particularly since we have no idea how he’s wired for something like that. That’s the sort of hiring decision that gets a guy fired. But I will say this, if Dolson fired a program legend and replaces him with a guy with 1 year at a MM, dude has a world class pair on him.
-
Well, that’s certainly an interesting hypothetical. How about this one: IU hires Beard who comes in and has an excellent year finishing top 3 in conference and let’s say a Sweet 16. Then in summer ‘26 he runs a light in downtown Bloomington, hits a minivan and blows .18 on site. So you now have to fire him because you have absolutely no choice and you’re starting another search. Meanwhile, Dusty May has continued to do what he has done ever since he became a head coach and that’s win and be rock solid while doing it. I doubt either of our hypotheticals is terribly likely, but the fact that mine is one that needs to be considered within a reasonable range of outcomes is why it almost certainly isn’t gonna be Beard. But as I’ve said before, if it is Beard I’ll support him enthusiastically unless he gives me a reason not to.

2 things on Tom Brady: 1) He is so not ready for this. Greg Olson is hell and gone better. 2) What is up with dude’s face?
-
https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-coaching-search-2025-hot-board-version-1-0/ Schumann’s 1st tier list. I like Mike, smart guy. Couple of things: 1) I’m not as high on Drew as some, but if Rick Bozich is correct that he straight turned down UK and U of L both last cycle, taking IU would be quite an endorsement. 2) Golden in a top tier seems off, but, damn, look what dude’s doing.

https://x.com/gnybarra/status/1888429866627854792 Buzz Williams interacting with a student from the Mizzou student newspaper. Coaching is teaching, which has been a straight up weakness here.
