(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU
Demo replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Final 8: IU, Seton Hall, Norte Dame, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Xavier, Va Tech, VCU. I know his stat lines and video scream just a guy, but that is an unassailably solid list of offers. -
(2018) PG Darius Garland to Vandy
Demo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
First full game of Garland's that I've seen, so the usual small sample size rules apply. Talent and variety in his game are obvious. Great talent. But he doesn't seem like the toughest kid, and he really wasn't much of an on floor leader at all. Maybe it just seems more glaring right after watching Akinjo. That team belonged to that kid and he just competed his a** off. Just a great leader. Maybe Garland's tangibles outweigh Akinjo's intangibles, but I'm not sure about that. If I had the choice between 2 years of Garland or 4 years of Akinjo, I'd have to give that a lot of thought. -
2018 General Recruiting Thread

Not that worried about his finishing. Seems pretty clever around the rim and finishes comfortably with both hands. For me I worry about whether he can consistently fight over the top of a high ball screen and does he have the lateral quickness to stay frontal against top PG's. I have this vision of us playing Illinois in a couple of years and Mark Smith just abusing him physically. -
(2018) SG - Luguentz Dort to Arizona State
Demo replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
And as I believe you pointed out, correctly, in another thread, the other 3 schools were highly sketchy. AIA is affiliated with Orangeville Prep, which has gotten some kids eligible, notably Jamal Murray. But, seriously, how could whomever has been advising this kid possibly have had his best interests at heart? How can he possibly be eligible? -
2017 July Evaluation Period
Demo replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I agree as well. If the kid can process what he sees and orchestrate the team to take advantage of matchups, than I don't care much about size. That being said, 1 of my all-time favorite teams to watch play, and I am ashamed to admit this, was the 89-90 Illinois teams that had Bardo at the point and had Anderson, Gill, Battle, Liberty and Hamilton. All between 6'5" and 6'8". Switched every screen. Had exploitable matchups on every possession. The original positionless team. Would have won a NC if Henson could have coached even a little bit. Btw: my all-time favorite RMK quote. After playing Kendall Gill for the last time, "Boy am I glad he's gone. That Son of a ***** can really play." Love that -
Even with a shortened season, Jorah's prospects do not look good.

(2018) SF Aaron Henry to Michigan State
Demo replied to goonaha's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Possibly number 1 in the non-mercenary division. -
They measure both a standing vert and a one step vert. A standing 40" vert would be pretty damned close to human flight. I'm not suggesting what they're doing isn't impressive, it obviously is. Freddie's incredible off 2 feet. Just saying it's a little like all these guys listed at 6'10" who are actually 6'8". They're still tall.
-
Not sure I'm buying 5 40" verts on 1 college roster when I'm pretty sure there were only 7 or 8 at the NBA combine. But if it is true then Cliff is officially a wizard.

B10 Basketball Recruiting Thread

Have seen Watson play several times. Goes to school with my niece. Really good kid. Really good student and will rep OSU well. A wildly overrated player. Good, not great, athlete. No exceptional skills. Doesn't compete that hard and hates contact. Looks better than he plays. Rumors around here were Harvard. That would have been a better fit. -
2018 General Recruiting Thread

That is a pretty concerning resume, thanks for the heads up. Back when we were recruiting Mario Kegler, I was speaking about him to a friend who is pretty well connected in the AAU world in the southeast. Told me at the time that Kegler transferred from ACD to Oak Hill because his people thought it was his only shot at getting eligible. Said something to the effect that ACD made Prolific Prep look straight up. -
Just got done watching the game. Thomas played very well. Loved that he did the exact things that are eventually going to result in a long career as a rotational big. Didn't force a thing, just did what he does. Loved it. Ball, on the other hand, whoa. Forget the shooting, that's no big deal. He could not stay in front of Kendall Marshall and couldn't beat him off the dribble in the half court. At all. Kendall Freaking Marshall. I'm not sure who he defends. Probably have to cross match him with the 2, but I'm not sure his lateral quickness holds up against a decent 2.

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
Demo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Actually, if Romeo ends up at UK, I won't care about losing him. There are certain program cultures, UK, Louisville, Syracuse, Oregon, Baylor, a few others, that I just find abhorrent, if a kid or his family/advisors aren't bothered by them then I don't want the kid rep'ing my school. Same with Bazely and Syracuse. If he wants to be there, fine, no loss. Losing kids to the Michigan St's and Villanova's are the ones that hurt. I've always heard that Romeo is a good, self-effacing kid. Hope that's true. -
Love boxing, but this is complete sludge. McGregor has exactly zero chance. None. Won't land a single shot. And Mayweather will just toy with him. Unwatchable for free, let alone $100. Now Canelo-GGG? Money is no object.
-
The kid is in for a rude awakening when he experiences the urgency of his 1st college workout.
-
Only really good lefty big I can remember, and he was only here for a minute, was Lawrence Funderburke.

Archie Miller's staff at Indiana will be Bruiser Flint, Tom Ostrom (Dayton) and Ed Schilling (UCLA),
Demo replied to opiej's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Looks like a different kid. Very encouraging. -
Can't judge him as a player at this point, but if he ends up in Bloomington, I will say this with great confidence: young+good looking+Italian accent+basketball player=It would be REALLY good to be him.-
-
If he's good enough to seriously consider being one and done, minutes won't be a problem.
-
I've actually seen this kid play. Very good prospect. Excellent athlete. Just a pogo stick off the floor. No gather at all,1st or 2nd jump. Shot needs work. Saw him make a couple of 3's, but his release point is not consistent. Can really run. Would be a wicked finisher in the open floor. Plays pretty hard, though his body language wasn't always good. Needs to add a ton of weight. If he took a charge from someone like Jallow, he might be vaporized.
-
I'll be real interested to see if he has clearinghouse issues. Preston as well. Mulitiple schools, including a year at API. I would not exactly bet my house on either of them being eligible in October.

(2018) PG Jalen Carey to Syracuse
Demo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Nothing wrong with that class. My list would absolutely include Jallow. Think he can be a real long term foundational piece. Reminds me of a bigger, more athletic Malcolm Brogdon. -
(2019) PF Isaiah Stewart to Washington
Demo replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
That kid is a '19? Physically he looks a lot like De'ron, who's almost 21, except he runs the floor much better. -
(2017) PG Mark Smith to Illinois
Demo replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Agreed. Terrific coach with a foundation PG. Not happy about this. Really enjoyed their irrelevance, it's over now. -
Sad thing is I have heard him say some really smart, thoughtful stuff. He was great on Stuart Scott after he passed away. Great. But his act is just hideous. Makes me want to walk in to traffic.
