  1. Great small moment. 1st OT. Brad Davison catches a pass on the right wing in a scramble situation. Race has to close out about 10 ft to get to the shooter. If it’s Davis, he doesn’t get there and Davison’s got an open 3. It it’s Smith or Juwan they probably close out of control, Davison puts a little shot fake on them and gets to the rim for an easy finish. Race closes hard and urgently, but perfectly under control. Hand up, feet under him. Takes away the shot and gives him no angle to attack. Perfect defensive play. Race was so good tonight. My college coach would have said, “That boy’s been taking notes.”

  3. Those were the 2 best FT’s Smith has shot all year. No hesitation at the top. Nice wrist snap. Trajectory was lower. Somebody has put in some work.
  4. Yeah, this time of year is when I really miss living in Indiana. There is always a great matchup to see somewhere.
  5. That Powell has a K-State offer makes him really intriguing to me. Whatever you might think of Bruce Webber as a coach, and I think he’s very good, he identifies a ton of under the radar kids. That, and 7 blocks a game.
  6. Was just watching video from the LaLumiere-Montverde game from January. Was watching for Beverly. But there was a play in the game where Precious Achiuwa commits a pretty cheap takedown of a Lalu kid. Brooks got right in Achiuwa’s face. Didn’t backdown at all. And Achiuwa is a grown man. Hadn’t pegged Brooks for that kind of kid. Impressive.

Without Azubuike and Vick KU is in trouble. Without those guys they’re, what, the 4th best team in their conference?

Nice night for TB. 23/12/3 blocks. Averaging almost 10 and 6 as a 21 year old. The kid is going to play a long time as a rotational big. Love seeing someone who plays that hard getting rewarded. Have never gotten why there were so many folks who thought he couldn’t play.

Man, who ever handles Bruno Fernando’s development needs a raise. Last year, that kid was an athlete. Now he’s a freakin’ player. And he’s got such a great motor.

    Team Chemistry Issues?

Terrific lateral movement for an interior kid. Length. Covers a ton of ground across the lane. Activity in the post. Should be able to blitz the pick and roll. To me, he has great defensive traits. He’s just not ready to do it. But I’ve been wrong before. Plenty.

100% with you. I am one of the biggest Forrester guys there is. I think by the time he’s a Jr he has a chance to be an elite defender. Love him. But right now he’s a calf on skates. And if his dad doesn’t see that, then he’s just being a dad. But he needs to shut up. And Justin’s dad ABSOLUTELY needs to shut up.

Watching Tennessee-LSU. 1st time I’ve really watched Tenn closely. They run ALOT of the same halfcourt stuff Archie runs. 2 differences: 1) Jordan Bone reads the secondary options better than Rob does at this point or Green ever will, and 2) if they have an advantage they readily break the play and attack it. It’s fun watching Jrs and Srs who really understand and react to what they’re seeing.
  13. Not as good as Langford is now. Not saying that at all. The decision is the thing. George had a matchup who had no chance of staying frontal and he punished him. Langford had the same and took the exact shot Garza would have begged him to take. It’s good lesson for him.
  14. Paul George just had the same end of game scenario as Langford had tonight. Instead of settling, George crosses over Joe Ingles and makes a 12 ft floater for the win. The staff needs to show him that play over and over. When you’re the superior athlete, never freaking settle.
  15. It wasn’t a crap play. Langford with the ball at the top. Morgan sets a high ball screen that forces Iowa to switch. Morgan bails, leaving Langford 1 on 1 with Garza. Langford elects not to go to the rim and settles for a tough, though makeable, 3 that he missed. The play got them exactly what they wanted, which was Langford on Garza. Question Langford’s decision, not the play.
  16. Not gonna try to convince you of a thing. But if you think Miller coached a bad game tonight, I really don’t know what to tell you.
  17. Morgan has got to stop spiking every block. He’s had 3 chances tonight to block and recover. But hey, spikes look cool.
  18. Rob has been good tonight. But I think Yogi was a good bit better. Way more explosive downhill. More aggressive pressing advantages. Created more.
  19. Race just spent 7 secs in the lane.
  20. Am I remembering the particulars incorrectly? I thought Schilling’s close relationship with Keion Sr was supposed to be Archie’s trump card. Also thought I remembered talk about Mom wanting him closer to home. Sounds counterintuitive. So, either, a) Nobody really knows anything and we’ll know when we know, or b) There is no b.
  21. There are several clips of him on YouTube. This one looks pretty reflective of what he is. I agree with you about the athleticism. You’d definitely have to run stuff for him. But on the plus side, there are a bunch of examples of him shooting off the catch and he’s clearly comfortable being used like that. He looks to have a pretty strong frame, so if he’s a legit 6’4’ maybe he has a chance to defend. Looks to me like he has a chance to be a Zeisloft with a better handle. Would take that happily.
  22. That’s not correct. He shot the same from 3, and worse from both 2 and from the line.
  23. By having different priorities and not being as detail oriented as his predecessor. Go back and watch Johnson’s shot as a Jr and as a Sr. Crean used to talk all the time about shot mechanics. Always bring the ball up your shooting hand side. Elevation never changes. Land 7 inches in front of your elevation point. People who watched their practices raved about how detailed their skill development piece was. As a Junior, Johnson’s stroke was much simpler and cleaner. But it was obviously a constant battle against some of his tendencies. As a Sr, he developed a pronounced leftward lean, his elevation dropped, his landing point was inconsistent. He was absolutely not as good a shooter. Same with Newkirk. Different issues, but the same results. I find it interesting that Schilling gets credited as an elite skill development guy while skill development is pretty obviously an issue here.
