  1. I was writing a much longer and angrier post with this same theme, but you got there quicker and more succinctly. Perfect response. And the criticism that CAM might be hiring a, gasp, mid-major coach just aggravates me to death. Some of the very best coaches in the game are mid-major coaches. If I had to argue who the best game coach in CBB is, I would probably say Randy Bennett or Bob McKillop. If I had to argue who the best game coach I’ve ever seen is, it would absolutely be John Kresse. Just because a guy hasn’t sat next to K or Beilein doesn’t mean he hasn’t learned from a great coach and wouldn’t be a huge get.
  2. Agree. He’s not as big, and probably not as good, but you can sort of see him have a De’Andre Hunter type of impact on games. Being able to switch pretty much every screen and also wreaking havoc in the passing lanes. Just a really high end 3 and D guy with the potential to do more. From what little video is out there, I am absolutely a fan.
  3. Watch the loose ball finish at about :45. Kid just explodes off the floor with no gather of any kind. That is incredible quick twitch right there. Rare trait. More than any other kid CAM is recruiting I would love to see this kid live.

    (2020) PG - Caleb Love

Don’t know about the timing of offers. But Martin is the lead recruiter on Love and was at pretty much every event Love played in. Not sure it’s gonna matter. The best St Louis area talent has barely given Mizzou a sniff since I’ve lived here. Maybe Martin changes that. The UNC smoke smells absolutely real to me. They’re gonna have an open PG situation and, while I’m not sure Love is really a PG, he clearly wants to run a team.
  5. Could be. That will be some elite athleticism in play. A fully engaged Caleb Love would be, by far, the best defender that Lander has played against. Guarantee it. But I’ve seen him multiple times when he floated pretty badly. Mario McKinney, who’s a highly athletic ‘19 Pg going to Mizzou, just flat outcompeted Love when they played last year. Love is good for about 4-5 “that’s the s**t” plays every game that are interspersed with 25 mins of getting by on sheer talent.
  6. Luke Brown has become a basketball Rorschach test for some on this board. If you really want to know what someone wants the program to look like at their core level, opinion of Brown is a pretty good indicator.

(2020) SG Anthony Leal to IU

Congratulations to an obviously great kid. We all know there have been some kids through the years who didn’t really seem to get how special an opportunity they had been blessed with. Love to see a kid who does.
  8. Yeah. Hunter’s length and skill set creates so much lineup flexibility. Anything from a giant 2 with Phinisee, Smith, TJD and Davis to a small ball 5 in a high pressure lineup with Phinisee, Green, Durham and Smith. The matchup possibilities are just plain cool.

Old Fart brings 3 things to the table in abundance: 1) the wisdom of age, 2) voluminous AAU followup, and 3) dripping sarcasm. All 3 greatly appreciated.
  10. Very true. But watched some clips of Hutcherson and 3 things are apparent: 1) He’s exceptionally long, 2) he won’t be out of place athletically, and, 3) the kid has a great looking stroke with deep range and has good footwork shooting both off the dribble and catch. Not hard to see his appeal. Plus, since I also feel confident in saying that I’m the biggest Brad Underwood believer on this board, I expect the kid to have a nice 2 year run.
  11. We’ve all got things that we question about the program. All of us. It’s the nature of fandom. But, dude, the guy chased a slew of guys for the open schollies and then fired a highly respected Asst with local ties for what appears to have been a lack of sufficient drive. There are legit things to question, but I don’t think aggression is close to one of them
  12. Ethan Happ clone. Really nice feet and fundamentals on the block. Finishes with either hand. Appears to be able to run. Nice offer list.

    (2020) PG - Caleb Love

Talked to a friend of mine about Love ages ago who has coached in the Bradley Beal Elite/St Louis Hawks system for years. He told me at the time that he thought a UNC offer would be very tough to beat. But that was probably 18 months ago, so fwiw.
  14. Wow, I hope that’s streamed. When Love is fully engaged he is a flat out elite defender. That is a must watch matchup.

See, I went the other way. Looked at it and thought, the kid is pointing right at the Stanford emblem.

So he’s Cassius Winston. Without seeing a second of the kid, I’m in. Ok, maybe not sight unseen, but that is pretty much a perfect PG description.

(2021) SF - Aminu Mohammed to Georgetown

Saw him a total of 4 times last year and his shot is actually fine, though he has some leftward drift. But he was good for 1-2 just jaw droppingly bad 3’s per game and I assume AAU would tend to exacerbate that tendency. But he made a decent % of his decent looks.

Fantastic player. Oladipo 2.0. Elite athlete and really competes. Love him. His brother is a Sr at Missouri St and Greenwood is located on the Mo St campus. Was told by a Greenwood parent at one of their games that Mohammed and his brother are really close. So I imagine he plays at Greenwood this year and probably finishes elsewhere after his brother graduates. A Lander/Mohammed backcourt would be incredible to watch.

Almost 150 shot attempts and only 8 attempted 3’s. Can’t remember the last time I saw a perimeter guy with a stat line like that.

    TV Series Thread

Great question. Hadn’t really ranked my favorites before now. Off the top of my head: 1) Buffy the Vampire Slayer- Seasons 2 and 3 are my favorite episodic tv seasons ever, no question. 2) West Wing- Before Sorkin left. 3) Game of Thrones- Even when it got shaky, still loved it. 4) Sherlock- The best episodes were unlike anything else on TV. 5) Russian Doll- Natasha Lyonne is freaking extraordinary. Honorable Mention: Killing Eve, Angel, Orphan Black, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, X-Files.

Seeing Tedeschi Trucks Band on 7/30 and Gary Clark Jr on 8/12. Frankly, the chance to see 2 bad*** players like Trucks and Clark, Jr in a 2 week window is pretty much all I’m thinking about these days.

I agree. But I don’t think you’re going to bring in a useful Fr PG with the pitch that they’re going to play 10 mins a game for the next 2 years and take the job as a Jr. You’re gonna have to suggest a pathway to early minutes of some kind. The exception would be a kid like Lander, who’s so good that his game will demand that he plays immediately.

Few things: 1) Will defer to your judgement on the 2 playing together. You’ve seen it and I haven’t. Both move well without the ball, so it’s not hard to picture. 2) I am in the 1 or the other camp, and I strongly prefer Galloway, though I would love to find more full game video of Leal. The only 2 I’ve watched were his Regional games last year and he was....underwhelming. His Center Grove performance was really bad and I have trouble getting past a kid flat no showing in the biggest game of his year. 3) I disagree that taking both wouldn’t impact a kid like Davis or Diarra. I imagine part of the pitch to a ‘20 PG is going to be not just taking backup minutes from Rob, but getting minutes next to him. But that’s a pretty tough sell with a Sr Durham, Jr Anderson, Soph Franklin and Fr Galloway and Leal. Just too crowded for a kid to reasonably expect rotation minutes. That being said, I agree that Davis will be a tough pull under any circumstances. IU and G-town will both have established Jr PG’s, while Marquette will be replacing 20 shots a night.
  24. Not downgrading Shannon as a Coach at in any way. The man’s had a great run and has earned his reputation. I’m sure he could bring some positive benefit. It’s just hard , really hard, for me to see someone at the point he is in his career wanting to take on a collaborative role like that. If Miller wants him and Shannon wants it, it’s ok with me. The HC is 100% accountable. He should have who he wants. Just seems like an odd fit.
  25. You mean pushing 60 years old Jim Shannon? That would.....surprise me.
