2025 NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament Discussion
Demo replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Clayton is such a freakin’ Guy. That kid is utterly fearless. -
The value of having the single toughest, most competitive kid on the floor all the time always gets underestimated and Ziegler is that guy. He wins them games on shear will.

Couldn’t bring myself to watch PU-UH last night, no thanks, but just saw the Uzan no call and that really was about as egregious a swallowing of the whistle as you’ll ever see. Dude is 10’ from the play with a perfect angle and 100% clear view of an easy call. Easy, that’s offense 100 times out of 100. Wow. I don’t care about PU getting jobbed, but I freaking hate refs “not wanting to decide the game” by not calling something they auto call for 39:50 of the game and thereby, whoops, deciding the game. Much worse than the missed goaltending because sometimes they’re just gonna not see things. But this was consciously deciding that there’s simply nothing that can happen here that I’m gonna call. Nothing. -
Imagine you’re right. Gonna have to be someone with deep pockets because I imagine he’ll be asking for Donovan Dent money. I think he’s from south Florida, so maybe if Miami wants to make a splash with their new HC someone down there writes the check. Suppose Texas could do it and Miller certainly saw him up close. But more likely KU or someone like that. The one I think it wouldn’t be is UK. Bad scheme fit.

I’m probably being too nasty here, he’s obviously a good player, but he hits 2 of my personal hot buttons pretty hard: 1) He’s an inveterate shot hunter who stops the ball and stops your movement. That’d bother me less if he was actually a good shooter. But he’s not, he’s just a volume shooter. 2) His defense is tied to his offense and when he’s not scoring it’s a problem. But not in the usual way. Most guys like that get lazy when they aren’t scoring, but Luis gets kind of manic and undisciplined. I don’t know what Pitino said after the game the other day but I doubt he subbed him for shooting 1 for a million. I think he subbed him because his defense got unplayable. I just think he’s a hard guy to win with if he’s your best player, and he’ll get paid that way, I just don’t know how that’s gonna go if you’re not a Rick Pitino.

St John’s RJ Luis in the portal. Big East POY. Will get big, big money from someone. Hopefully that someone isn’t Indiana.

(2027) PG - Chase Branham

It’s just that if this is DeVries’ 1st offer and it wasn’t someone he’d offered previously or had some other connection to then it’s reasonable to speculate that the offer was precipitated by an incoming Asst. Currently the only offers mentioned in his timeline are IU, K-State, Mizzou and Austin Peay. None of the coaches on those staffs has a previous stop with DeVries that I could find, but I would still venture to guess that when the staff is named 1 of them will be from a staff that’s been recruiting this kid, whether they’ve actually offered or not. -
He’s probably the presumptive next guy at Mich St, wouldn’t you think? And he’s so young and Izzo’s gotta be 70 or pushing it. Maybe he hangs in the A10 for another year or 2 and then heads for East Lansing. Regardless, his next job’s gonna be a really good one.

I get why UT could land on Miller, I suppose, if they wanted a guy who’s run a really high profile program and gets that. But, man, it feels like they overvalued that piece and there are definitely better coaches, McCasland being 1 of them.

Oh God, no. But I am rooting for them tonight against the only guy whom I ever would. That I’m forced to do something that gross pretty much guarantees that Houston’s gonna win it by 30 and the soul-sucking feeling of rooting for little brother only to have them embarrass themselves will make me hate them even more. -

My neck of the woods! Ok, not really, it’s like 3 hours. Doesn’t matter, in my to do’s for December. Also, doesn’t this feel like it should be an Asst Coach tell of some kind? -
Nowell is gonna be a nice buy low play for someone. Was nicked up a lot and never got into any flow at all, but he’s a tough kid.
-
Absolutely. Pharrell Payne minus 25lbs is easily within his range of outcomes and given how springy he is he could be a fair bit better. Would take the kid in a second.
-
Ridiculous, but it’s not my money.
-
If Willard wins a power play and forces the AD out and then splits anyway, wow, that is a world class Dick move.

Murphy always felt like a pretty serious pipe dream given where Bama is and what they’re able to pay. But, hey, if DeVries expressed interest and his guy ended up leverging a raise out it, no harm, no foul. The Moikobu thing fascinates me and I REALLY hope that happens. Check out the guy’s resume: https://texastech.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/achoki--moikobu-/4048 Every school he’s been at has gotten much better immediately. So he’s either: 1) the Forrest Gump of Asst Coaches and just walks into great situations, 2) a guy with a great eye for good coaches, or 3) a really, really great Asst. Pretty sure it’s a combination of 2 and 3. So I’m in big-time on that dude.
-
I hope he does well there, but I really, really don’t like his chances.
-
Hate that guy so, so much.
-
Talented kid. Played with Rakease Passmore in high school. Only thing, his game is completely tied to his offense and he's ball-dominant to the point of not really knowing how to play without it. But if he lands with the right HC he could be a problem.
-
Gonzaga's Michael Ajayi in the portal. Kind of a curious deal. Transfered from Pepperdine to Gonzaga with this reputation as a total 3pt sniper and then got there and couldn't throw it in the ocean. Probably a nice buy low candidate for someone.
-
Well, going to a historically bad program in a better conference is quite the roll of the dice. What am I missing here?

(2025) - PG Jalen Haralson to Notre Dame
Demo replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
None. They're writing a big check and from all indications Shrewsberry promised him the keys to the car. I really like Haralson a lot, but he flat wants to be a PG and I don't really think that's the fit. -
If Cronin’s able to pay Dent someone needs to punch him dead in the throat the next time he whines about resources.
-
Oh yeah. Hardest of hard no’s. Quite the list, Turner and a bunch of retreads. If I were them I’d call Eric Olen and make him a stronga$$ offer. What that guy’s done at San Diego is pretty amazing.
