Game Thread: Howard, Sunday 8pm BTN

The defense looked better, but we are letting teams make passes to their shooters too easily. Most of their threes were of the catch and shoot variety. If we can't make the shooters put the ball on the floor before shooting, this is what we will get.

Worst free throw shooting I've ever seen.

I think I've seen enough to say we're in a pretty significant rebuild. I just hope it doesn't take as last time.
  4. One thing I appreciate about BTB is there are several posters here who don't take themselves too seriously and have a good sense of humor. I get a great deal of entertainment value just reading this board.
  5. This is the time of year when our lack of quality depth rears its ugly head. The team is plagued by injuries from playing a murderous schedule. By the end of games our guys are gassed. Better players and better depth is sorely needed.
  6. Unless something changes drastically, there will be a lot of opportunity for the freshmen to play. A lot of opportunity!

A lot of teams would take that from the free throw line.

(2018) QB Reese Taylor to IU

I hope he at least gets a look at QB. But starting him next year behind our OL would get him killed!

    The Sky is Not Falling

I think this year is about finding out, among the underclassmen, whose in and whose out in terms of Coach Miller's style. This year could very well be something very different than the smooth transition we had hoped for. What I expect going forward is improvement and a much better product by year three than we had under the previous coach.

Maybe there has not been as much buy in as we were led to believe. I understand the difficulty of learning a new system on both ends of the court, but there is no excuse for lack of effort. And, going forward, I don't think Coach Miller will allow it.

This game will linger for a while. A LOT of work to do.

The rest of the game will tell a lot about the character of this team.

Sounds like a groin injury that could keep him out for a couple of weeks. He may be one of those guys whose body just can't take the stress of college basketball.
  14. I've thought all along that we're looking at three to four years to get where we want to be. Coach Miller said it takes about three years to fully implement the defense the way he wants it played. Plus, we're adding a new offensive philosophy for players who have always done something different. We'll probably be doing much the same thing next year with a really young team I would expect to start really seeing what the future will look like in year three. After that, the fun should start in earnest.
  15. Not really my drink, but what the hell, pour me one too!
  16. Regardless of how this plays out, I think we are looking at three to four years before we are competing consistently at the top of the basketball world. It will be a while before we have the right combination of talent AND experience to be where we want to be. Remember, as good as the Cheany / Graham class was, they still took their lumps their first couple of years. Even with Garland and Langford I don't think there will be enough to be more than really good next year. With the best class every year since it seems like forever, UK just has one NC.
  17. This is another reason not to get too invested I the recruiting side of college basketball. I want kids to be successful no matter where they go or what they decide. While it can be a fun diversion at times, we create most of our own drama. We are embarking on an exciting new era for Indiana basketball and the decisions of high school kids aren't going to change that. I'm going to sit back and enjoy the process.

Also a graduate of ISU but from the late '60's. Also a lifelong IU basketball fan. I don't usually follow the "Trees" too closely but I will watch a game now then if I find it on the tube. My only actual connection to IU is the semester I spent on campus in the spring of '76 while working on my Masters degree.
  20. I refuse to get too excited or depressed about what college high school kids decide to play for. I want the best team that Coach Miller and staff can put together and I believe they will do just that. I am ecstatic that we finally have a recruiting strategy that addresses needs and makes sense. And, being a lifelong resident of Indiana, I am extremely happy to see the state made a priority again. I follow a lot of these kids through their high school careers and it's always nice to see them continue at IU.

Exhibition Game Thread: UIndy - Sunday, Nov. 5

A little professionalism would be nice from the BTN. At least announce the change of plans.
  22. I agree with everything you just said and yet we are 0-6 in conference play. Toughest division in football, probably. But, man, this has to take a toll on the team. I agree we are much better at 0-6 than in the past, but we are still who our record says we are. I'm willing to give Coach Allen time to show what he can do. It just gets frustrating when we start the season with the "break through" mantra and yet here we are again.
  23. This is the IU football team I know and love.

    Rivalry?

I grew up, since the '50's, an IU basketball fanantic. I went to ISU and then to IU for grad school (1976). I most hated Kentucky and Purdue. The difference for me was that, while I disliked Purdue, I at least respected them. They were like that brother-in-law that you just couldn't stand but were still family. In Kentucky's case, there was nothing to even respect.
