    2023 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

Having lived in or around Carmel for the better part of my life, I have seen it transition from a mostly rural into a high end community. The changes have been astounding and, in my opinion, not all for the better. Many older residents struggle to stay in their homes because of the higher costs of living here. Don't even get me started about the ruthless nature of annexation.

(2021) SG Tamar Bates to INDIANA

I'm really excited to see the kids that CMW is bringing to the program. In a couple of years this will be a completely different looking team.
  3. Not exactly on topic, but there is an interesting article in the IndyStar with Thad Matta talking about his year at Indiana. All positive from his viewpoint. Also has some really good things to say about CMW.
  4. I can agree if Race, or someone starting in his place, becomes a consistent threat from 3. Otherwise, I see the same problems we have had for the past several seasons. I also don't want to drive any of our 'future' into the portal because of lack of minutes at a position.
  5. As much as I like keeping certain guys out of the portal, we need an infusion of a different kind of talent to play the way CMW wants to play. I don't think we can get by standing pat with who we have.

    Xavier Arrested...

My brother-in-law was at a bar close to where here lived and realized he was too drunk to drive, so he decided to walk home. He was arrested for drunk walking (public intoxication). Sometimes when you try to do the right thing it turns out wrong.

    Xavier Arrested...

I'm ready to set this incident aside and let the legal system and university handle it from here.

Hard to beat a Joe Walsh reference!

    Xavier Arrested...

I got115, but it was on two wheels at night. Any points for that?
  10. I would bet CMW has a deadline for players to decide one way or the other. I'm sure he's giving them time to explore options and make an informed decision, but that timeframe is not indefinite.

    Xavier Arrested...

I agree. It's incredibly insensitive to talk about how easily he can be replaced as a basketball player. He is way more than that. He is a human being who has had maturity issues in the past but who has also shown growth throughout the past year. He's not a finished product by any means. Growth can be a stop and start kind of process. I trust that CMW is on top of this and will do what is appropriate. Without knowing anything, I don't think CMW will bail on the young man just to make room for another player. If he does, he's not the man I think he is.

    Xavier Arrested...

Good points every one. I've had similar things happen to me. I respect and appreciate our law enforcement officers, but they occasionally over react and do things that make no sense. No idea what happened in this instance but we need to know all of the details.

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA

Another reason I love TJD. He defends his guys, even when they are no longer here. To me, that's what being a teammate is about.

There's not much difference in the offense other than the level of talent. It's not what we were trying to run as much the talent it takes to execute it.

Old school kids without a doubt. I can't express how much I appreciate those kids.

That's fair also. I wasn't really thinking about the consequences of what went on at LSU. I was more reacting to the lack of commitment to a school and the ease with which kids switch loyalty these days. I understand the need to look out for one's own well-being, but I think that needs to be balanced against honoring a commitment to a school.

This, to me, represents everything that is wrong with college basketball. The days of playing for a school are over. Kids play for a coach, and whatever he promises them, and not because they like a school. It feels as mercenary as the NBA. I know that's the world we live in, but I don't have to like it.

(2022) PG Adou Thiero to Kentucky

UK offers guys knowing that if they don't work out they will throw them away and get another kid. Not sure I want IU to operate that way. I admit to being o!d school on some things, but I would like to at least learn the names of the kids on the roster before they transfer out.

2022 NCAA Tournament / Bracket Reveal

Going to need to add some maturity. Didn't really handle his interactions with teammates all that well. Hopefully, he gets there.

2022 NCAA Tournament / Bracket Reveal

Painter made comments occasionally that sounded like the team was not that easy to coach. That they didn't always listen to what he was trying to get them to do. I've seen other places that have suggested that Ivey was the problem. I don't know anything about the young man, other that he is a special talent, so I'm not saying any of that is true.

Absolutely! I love our women's team and am incredibly proud of what they have done so far this year. I'll be watching and pulling for them to go all the way.

As much as I enjoy a Purdue loss, I would rather be enjoying IU wins.
  23. I think everyone who has had to build a team understands that fit is critical. I always thought that each additional hire was harder than the previous one. The more people who have to fit together, the more difficult the hire. This is CMW's ship. First year wasn't quite right, so make adjustments. I thought Fife was a good hire, but for whatever reason, it wasn't. CMW has to have everyone on the same page and working towards the same goals. I have no problem with him making the changes he thinks necessary. That's what leadership looks like.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

In that case Race has to be a consistent threat from 3. I think CMW wants four guys who can score from out on the court. My concern with Race and Trayce coming back is that we end up being the same team we were this year. If I understand correctly, the offense CMW wants to run doesn't include two bigs in the lane. I just think that to move into the top of the conference we need to be a different type of team than we have been. But, what do I know.

    2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

I agree. Which is why I said tough choices. The only thing that I think is certain is that we were not good enough this past season. For the most part, the kids played hard and didn't quit. So at the end of the day, talent was what separated us from the top of the conference. We need better talent. How and when we get that talent is the responsibility of the coaching staff.
