IUBB vs. St. Francis (exhib) Thurs., Nov. 3rd, 7 p.m. B1G+

When I see old game film of the IU teams with Isaiah, I am astounded all over by how good he was. Of all the great point guards that IU has had during my years of watching, and there have been a bunch, Thomas is clearly the best. IU doesn't win the title in '81 without him. Obviously, just my opinion. -

The caveat being the level of competition, this is a much different team than last years. There is more athleticism, more scoring, and more reliable depth. It almost feels like last seasons ceiling is this teams floor. It will undoubtedly be more enjoyable than we have seen in a long time. -
(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.

I feel really bad for him. He should never have been a reclassify, and those who supported that did him a great disservice. He was not physically ready for college and should have never left high school when he did. I hope he finds himself again and enjoys playing basketball with success. -

Maybe it's just me, but if a guy put his name in the portal, he would no longer be on my team. -

When he develops a B1G body, he will be a problem for the rest of the conference. -

Reminds me of a certain Purdue player a couple of years ago. -

Considering who we didn't have today, I think it was an excellent game. CJ Gunn has a huge upside and will be great for us down the road. I like this team. However, what we saw today is why those 5* freshman are important. Those two guys alone change the trajectory of this team. -

Don't forget, shooting still sucks and our offense is stagnant and nobody knows where they're supposed to be. The defense is worse than it was a year ago. Too much standing around. We'll be lucky to make the tournament. Should we start the "fire Mike Woodson" thread now. -

I see a lot of talk about guys being "three level scorers" but I don't currently see that on this roster. The potential is there but no one returning has established that they can do that. Until one of the guys who can get to the basket develops a consistent three point shot, we'll have the same problem we have dealt with for the past several years. Teams will pack it in and cut off driving lanes. -
(2025)- Trent Sisley to INDIANA

Not really, but back then I had time to let it play out. I thought that was classic Bob Knight, messing with the heads of his players. Those were fun times. -
(2025)- Trent Sisley to INDIANA

2025, are you kidding me? By then we may not even want him. Some other kid may come out of the blue and be the flavor of the day. I can't get that excited about a kid this far out when, at my age, I might be dead by then. I need results now! -
Started a podcast... Finally.

Congrats and good luck! Tough gig in a crowded space. Only advice I can give is to always be respectful of your guests and audience and be honest. Hope it turns out to be everything you want. -
Is it possible that he has a heart? I hope that is the case and not just a marketing play to make him look like he cares.
-
He's probably the player I'm most looking forward to seeing play. If Banks can get in the rotation, there's a good chance we are really good.
-
Love DJ, but it is seldom that simple. Don't want to get too far off the rails, but when I see someone like Dakich who seems determined to self destruct I want to understand how he got to this point.
-
I don't know what happened to Dakich. He could be so good at adding context to what was happening on the court. Maybe he had some personal issues that got in his head sent him off in a bad direction. Although I don't like what he has become, he gave a lot of years to IU basketball. Something about the radio show, which was very good when it started, went really wrong. I can't listen to him anymore and, in a way, that is kind of sad.
-
You are correct, but that doesn't mean we can't compete with the rest of the conference. I'm willing to concede the top five are out of our reach, but we should be gunning for everyone else. No reason that they should be kicking our butts year in and year out. I don't see a reason for it and, frankly, I'm beyond tired of it.
-
Didn't Bob Knight give him a rocking chair or something during a broadcast after he announced his retirement? My memory is not great that far back but I seem to remember that. If I'm wrong, maybe it was a different broadcaster. CBK was not tight with many media people but there were a few.
-
My problem with him, and I used to enjoy him, is that he over uses his tag lines. I don't want to hear "get those puppies organized" a thousand times a game. A little variety goes a long way for me. I know it's all persona and having a readily identifiable way of speaking, but why get trapped into just that one thing.
-
Agree 100% with this. Maybe we can't be top 4 or5 in the conference, but there are plenty of programs that we should be able to be better than. I've never understood how Northwestern with their academic standards could possibly be better than us in football. Doesn't seem possible and yet it is.
-
Possibly. Like I said I don't remember her name. I know this is going to get me in trouble with some, but I want female announcers to sound feminine and not like they are trying to be one of the boys. Feminine and knowledgeable about sports are not mutually exclusive categories. I readily admit that it is probably way more complicated than that. I have daughters and granddaughters and I want them to have the opportunity to do anything they have the ability to do. Man, I went off on a tangent there didn't I.
-
The voice is important. There is a female announcer, don't remember her name, whose voice just grates on me. I have nothing against women in sports broadcasting, I love Sage Steele and others, but that one not so much.
-
I liked Mark Boyle when I used to listen to Pacers radio broadcasts and Jerry Baker before him. Mark used to have a radio show in Indy years ago that I loved listening to. He had a dry sense of humor that was just understated enough to be brilliant. In the college game I liked Dakich when he first started. Coach Knight too early on. Shon Morris and Robbie Hummel are fine with me.

Truer words were never spoken.
-
I rue the day. I hope we replace him with someone similar. My fear is that it will be a personality who wants to be the show. Don is the voice of IU basketball and football since the early '70s. He has done this with class and humility even through the numerous broadcasting awards he has won. Never has it been about him. I know he doesn't need me singing his praises and the thread is not about him, but it had to be said for everyone for whom he has been IU sports. Now on topic, I like anyone who provide insight into what's happening on the court or field. What bugs me the most is when broadcaster guy and color guy go off on a tangent that has nothing to do with what is happening in real time in front of them.
