I hadn't really thought about that as a contributing factor, but it may be. This sport has turned into something that I barely recognize.

No I don't. I don't know how to make that any more clear. We are who we are at any point in time. We are who the record says we are. I can speculate, as can anyone, about what might have been but it has nothing to do with reality. I am willing to admit that even without the May injury that team may not have won the title. We will never know because that was not reality. IU will win or lose with who they put on the court as will every other team. How you evaluate the product on the floor is your viewpoint and you are certainly entitled to it. Doesn't mean it is right or wrong. Others might look at it from a different, but still as valid, point of view. We are all here because we are interested to some degree. I enjoy the variety of points of view and can kind of see the different levels of investment.

My point was what might have been was irrelevant to what actually happened. Timing means a lot in all things. It has shaped my life for sure. This team as currently constructed has a lower ceiling than the one that started the season. Our opponents going forward won't care who is missing from our lineup. We will win or lose with who we have. The record book won't care about anything else. Yes, I thought the '75 team was national championship good before the May injury. But the injury happened and IU was not good enough to overcome it. That was the reality and I can accept that. This season will play however it does with who we have available as will every other teams. If this was a closed or by invitation only thread, then I apologize for inserting my thoughts into it.

We can speculate all we want, but the results are the results. I thought IU should have won a national championship in '75 if not for Scott May's broken arm. But IU didn't and the result was a loss to Kentucky. Revisionist thinking does no one any good.

We are also talking about an administration that made an intentional decision to de-emphasize the basketball program after Coach Knight had become the face of Indiana University. IU made hiring decisions based things that were not related to coaching ability. Maybe the admin is waking up, maybe not. But we are currently very far behind because of what happened when CBK was fired. I don't know if CMW is the answer, but at least he understands what IU used to be.

You are nearly always a voice of analytical reason we the fan base whips itself into a frenzy. Everyone sees things from the perspective that exists inside their head. Nothing wrong with that. But I always look forward to the more balanced view that you often bring.

Just let him die in peace on that hill.
  11. I've just come to accept that attitude thing as part of this generation. They get their "style" from their NBA heroes. I was talking more about knowing what to do on the court in terms of his play.
  12. I think we are top of the B1G good when at full strength. But without XJ and with TJD dealing with back issues, possibly JHS also, we are not that team. Take the best two players off of any team and they won't be the same either.
  13. He's showing some maturity and just playing the game.
  14. Your guys played harder than we did. Just don't have quite the talent level but you are going to win a lot of games. Best of luck going forward. Respect.
  15. This D is starting to look more and more like the pack line.
  16. If ever there was a trap game, this is it. Quick, good three point shooting, and probably really pumped to play us. The perimeter defense better show up.

This team and injuries, unbelievable. With TJD having back issues again and XJ out for an extended period, preparation for next season may be about to begin.

You are right about that. But I like that he plays with an edge. Needs to act like he has been there before and be that stone cold killer this team needs. If he stays coachable, he will be a fan favorite very soon.

    2022/23 IUFB Offseason News

So are we about to become the football version of a minor league baseball team? Get a few good players, develop them a bit, and then send them up to the majors.

Absolutely. We have guys on the bench who have been underperforming against better teams. It's time for them to step up. We either have a dependable bench or we don't. Guess we are about to find out. On a side note, depending on how the rest of the season goes, CMW may be looking at a significant retooling of the roster.
