How bad does the Big10 look if Purdue loses this game?
-
I liked Smith and thought he would be good at IU. He's from my former high school so there's that. As much as I have hated Purdue for the last 65 years, I actually like CMP and a lot of their players. We can make fun of Edey all day long but he seems to be a good guy. I saw an interveiw with his mom and she seems like a good person too. The bottom line is that I hate how likeable they are considering how much I hate them.

Good for you. We always need someone who will take one for the team.

For all those who thought Arizona was national championship team after they beat us....guess not. It just demonstrates the complete irrelevance of December games. Teams go through a lot of changes as the season progresses.

More like scorched earth.

IUBB 2023 B1G Tournament March 8-12, 2023
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This team is part of what hopefully is a progression to being consistently relevant in college basketball. It's been a pretty good year all things considered. CMW took a team that was bottom half of the conference, added a couple of pieces, and built a top of the conference finish. I see this as progress. This group was never likely to contend for a national championship. I've been around for a long time, and I might be getting senile, but I like the direction of the program. -
IUBB 2023 B1G Tournament March 8-12, 2023

I've seen this same post over and over throughout the year. My thought is that this team is playing exactly like CMW wants them too. -
Aren't we all. This is going to be an insane portal year. It's not even open yet and multiple teams jumping in on this guy. College basketball is looking more NBA like in terms of roster every day.

IUBB 2023 B1G Tournament March 8-12, 2023

I've checked in on other team's message boards from time to time this year. The one thing they all have in common is the hatred for the officiating. I won't argue that it is good, fair, or consistent. But everyone consistently thinks their team gets screwed. I've come to accept it as just the nature of the state of college basketball right now. -

I'll take the win and slip quietly out the door. We are a flawed and unpredictable team. But apparently so is everyone else. The NCAA tournament is going to be insane. Let's roll the ball out and see what happens. -
I would love to see JHS back at IU next season. But, being a realist, that's not happening. I think the injury to XJ accelerated Jalen's skill set. He has grown so much during the course of the season after becoming the primary point guard. He is the real deal. And, more importantly, it's mental as much as physical. As an aside, the mid range game is not obsolete. We just beat Purdue in Mackey because JHS has that skill. I would be beyond shocked to see him at IU next year. He will be a CMW recruiting tool going forward.

As I said in the pregame, beat Purdue and all would be right in the universe. All is right in the universe.
-
Come on, don't hold back.

Regardless of how this ends, I can see what this team can be.

As a guy who played three seasons of sports in high school each year, I've never understood the thinking that the coach needs to deliver an inspirational speech before a game. I was either ready or I wasn't. Nothing the coach could say changed that. I will admit that I didn't understand playing hard until I was a junior and then it clicked for me. The inside of a team looks way different than it does from the outside. Anyway, go Hoosiers, beat the crap out of the Boilers.
-
I expect ugly. However, anything is possible. Beat Purdue tonight and all will be right with the universe.

Every time I see his name, I think Lacy Underall. Am I the only one? -

I certainly didn't expect this back when it seemed that everything the women's program did was wrong. Would love to hang a banner. -

I am glad we are finding ways to win some of these down to the wire games. But at this point I have no idea how good our conference is. Seems like everyone is losing to someone on a regular basis. I am concerned about our guard play once we get into the tournament. If we had a fully healthy XJ, I think we would be formidable. Not so sure right now. There doesn't seem to be a consensus best team so maybe we have a shot. But, right now, I think we could be a final four team or a first round exit. -
Pretty sure we will see at least one current team member in it, maybe more.

This is the new landscape of college football and basketball. Continuity is going to be hard to come by. The reasons for a kid to transfer now includes the promise of more money elsewhere. Maybe it always did and I just never saw it. Years ago, we kind of knew what the team was going to look like from year to year. Now we are filling out or building a team every year. I doubt we will ever see teams built the way they were in our glory years again. The king is dead, long live the king.

Well said. I don't even want to think about who the next coach might be. I want to enjoy what CMW is building and let everything else work itself out.

Nothing pisses them off more than calling them 'Rutger'. Well done! -

I would have loved to have beaten Maryland, Purdue, and Rutgers. But as someone famous once said, "two out of three ain't bad".
