(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA
cthomas replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As much as I appreciate the guys who have put in the work the past few years, I'm excited to see a new brand of IU basketball. -
I thought the same thing. I get he is probably upset that the relationship went south. Sometimes two people just can't get on the same page. But, as a coach, if something is not working, try a different approach. Ware absolutely needed to move on after some of the Altman comments I have seen. No need to continue to trash the kid.

LOCATED! The Holy Grail of IUBB Photos
cthomas replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fascinating to consider. But it would take an alternate universe for that CBK and that Larry Bird to mesh. Coach Knight's personality eventually became his undoing as kids quit responding to his methods. That, and him being unable to adapt. -
Embarrassing and questionable placement of the gator in that photo.

(2019) C/PF - Kadin Shedrick to Virginia

Probably thinks CMW can get him there. I'm really interested in seeing how this strategy plays out. Right now I have no idea how good we might be. -
Obviously the staff is interested for a reason. Maybe he is part of a position recruiting board and he is second or third on the position list. We seem to have gone all in on the portal to address our needs. We have four spots to fill and we are looking at multiple players to fill them. I don't necessarily get it, but the staff knows way more than me.

(2024) - CG Dylan Harper to Rutgers

In the current environment, money can change everything. I don't think anything is settled until all the bids have been opened. -
For the record, I don't love the portal. But as things stand, we have embrace it or get buried by it.
-
The time investment in high school recruits is absurd compared to recruiting the portal. Given his coaching background, I could see CMW liking the portal option much better. It has that NBA free agency feel all over it. The upside is experience, maturity, performance record, and greatly reduced time expenditure. From a coaches viewpoint, what's not to like.

Coaching Changes Nationally
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I can't believe what some of these administrators are doing to sound like they are sensitive to who knows what. Weren't the crusades a religious endeavor? Isn't Valpo a school with a religious affiliation? I guess I'm just too old to understand today's world. -
This is insane. I have five grandkids with me this weekend so I think I'll just sign out until Monday. Good luck to everyone.
-
I wonder if the new portal world will pressure high school kids to commit earlier than they have been. I could see them wanting to lock up a spot at their school of choice before the portal madness begins each spring.
-
Cupps addressed the portal situation in an interview I read recently. Basically said he can't wait to get here to meet and compete with his new teammates. He said he will do whatever the coaches ask of him to win games. I hope everyone else has the same attitude.

That would send my wife into a full on meltdown. Now, make that a convertible with the top down on a deserted country road and I'm all in.

Chris Ledlum - Harvard Transfer to Tennessee -- Wait, Make That St. John's

What!! Where do I sign up. -
I think I'll just excuse myself from the forum until we have a full roster to discuss.
-
I was in grad school and spent the spring semester in 1976 on campus. What a fantastic experience.
-
Can't really argue with any of points you make. I blame the administration's hatred for CBK for what has happened to IU basketball. I remember when the governor of Indiana was a regular at IU games.
-
Probably my biggest fear as I get older and older.
-
I completely understand where you are coming from. Perspective is always Interesting to me because it varies so much with age. I've seen four of the five although I was only about six when I saw the first one. Yes, I am THAT old. I, of course, wouldn't trade any of those for someone else's achievements. Mostly because they are part of my personal history. It was a different time, not necessarily better, but different. I truly hope that the younger people in our fanbase get to experience some of the things I have. CMW is trying to give all of us that experience once again.
-
Sadly true. That and cancer rarely (never) get better over time. That's, at least, my experience.
-
Which would set us up nicely with the next couple of recruiting classes.

Typical.

General WBB Thread

IU women had a great year but seeing Iowa in the championship game makes feel like we left a lot still on the table. -
I can tell that I am really old because some of these things going on now make me really sad.
