2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal
cthomas replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I know this is the world we live in now. And I don't blame the kids one bit for trying to cash in on the stupidity that is college basketball today. It's not their fault and if I were them I'd do the same thing. But what this sport has become sickens me. -

I've liked this kid for a while now and I believe is going to be a fan favorite from the time he sets foot on campus. We get hung up on ratings and then dismiss kids like Cupps because they are not 5*. But he knows how to run a team and he will be willing to do whatever is asked of him. All he has ever done is win. -
Obviously someone/everyone failed this kid growing up. I wonder how many adults in his life only saw his talent with a basketball and were trying to cash in. Sometimes adults have to be adults and help kids.

You don't want any part of that! Trust me.

More like the Kodak Instamatic camera. I quit using those years ago.

Agree to disagree.

Chris Ledlum - Harvard Transfer to Tennessee -- Wait, Make That St. John's

I love it when we can lighten up a bit. -
I'm not sure taking a shot at a kid who was a freshman last year is helpful. He was a pretty good scorer in big boy basketball in high school. He plays hard and will get it figured out if given the chance. The great recruiting class that became the 93 and 94 teams took their lumps as freshmen. Gunn especially has all measureables that we want and is a great kid from a great family.

Obviously. No one to my knowledge ever made a movie about the Purdue go kart race. Although I will admit I saw it on TV once and it was mildly entertaining.

Kokomo Monster (2024) - C Flory Bidunga to Kansas

I think the trap is if you recruit dominant post players then you have to scheme your offense around them. Similar to what we did with TJD. Don't get me wrong, I love and respect TJD, but if you have that kind of talent, you have to utilize it. I'm ready to see a more balanced approach to our offense. -

I love this because there are kids who still feel that way. But, in my opinion, they are a dying breed. Money corrupts everything. Once we start down that road there is no turning back. I know the under the table stuff has always been there. I think of the old racing saying, "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't trying." -
I have to think that other schools monitor that stuff too. So how do they respond to that? I mean we aren't the only ones who are cutting edge in the social media world. I don't think we have an advantage in that arena over other schools.

I'm so confused about this whole portal process. I thought there were specific times when kids could sign letter of intents. Is that different for kids in the portal. I may be too old to keep up with this stuff.

When did we start spending so much time talking about a Purdue commit who may or may not reopen his recruitment and who we may or may not have interest in?
-
I was really thinking more about Ware. If another school loses someone late, could they flip Ware with a better offer?
-
Do portal guys commit and then decommit later pending a better offer? Just wondering when it is definite.

Crusaders!!! Not that again. -
I'm right there with you. Banks and Gunn really intrigue me. Both are good athletes with length. The tools are there, they just need to put it all together.

I hope that works out for Pike. As a long time follower of Indianapolis/Marion County basketball, I always root for those teams. Warren Central hired Gregg Graham a while back with mixed results. Hopefully, this works out better.

Chris Ledlum - Harvard Transfer to Tennessee -- Wait, Make That St. John's

The staff wants him so I hope we land him. If not, there will be someone else. I kinda enjoy different people bringing their opinions and then backing them up with the evidence they have. If they end up being wrong, so what. The process was fun. If it wasn't interesting and fun, I would be doing something else. -

That kid has been the hardest working Hoosier and he isn't even on campus yet. -

As much as I appreciate the guys who have put in the work the past few years, I'm excited to see a new brand of IU basketball. -
I thought the same thing. I get he is probably upset that the relationship went south. Sometimes two people just can't get on the same page. But, as a coach, if something is not working, try a different approach. Ware absolutely needed to move on after some of the Altman comments I have seen. No need to continue to trash the kid.

LOCATED! The Holy Grail of IUBB Photos
cthomas replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fascinating to consider. But it would take an alternate universe for that CBK and that Larry Bird to mesh. Coach Knight's personality eventually became his undoing as kids quit responding to his methods. That, and him being unable to adapt. -
Embarrassing and questionable placement of the gator in that photo.
