Cupps is who I hoped he would be. Always going to give the effort and can hit shots when needed. And he will get better as the season progresses. Ware is gaining confidence and getting comfortable. Bad news for our opponents. Overall, a rough game that is a character builder.

Walker not having a great game.

This is going to be a process. Always was with this many new pieces. I'm feeling better every game about Ware and that was my biggest concern. If you want a high volume 3 point shooting team, then CMW might not be your coach. The defense, minus a few missed assignments, has kept us in the game against a pretty mature team.

I have said this team has talent at every position. It also has depth. We just have to be patient while all of these pieces learn how to play with one another. This will be a very good team as the season progresses.

I've been wondering if he is poachable.

The defense was better than I expected it to be. There were some rotation issues but for a first game it was good. I thought the guard pressure was very good. If Cupps can continue to grow on the defensive end we'll be in good shape in the backcourt. The defense may need to keep us in some games until the offense catches up. Overall, I'm optimistic.

Watched it and am not as concerned as some. It's going to take a while to integrate this many new pieces. We have talent. Some of it is really young and will go through some growing pains. CMW knows how to bring along young players. I believe we won't be a team that anyone wants to see in their bracket in March.

CMW's statement concerning post play probably sounds good to a certain guy we are recruiting hard right now.

I listened to the game on the radio (next best thing to watching) and just watched the highlights. I liked what I saw of Sparks and Walker a lot. I can definitely see the potential of our frontcourt as those guys figure out how to play together. Cupps gives us a college ready alternative at point guard. I love how he moves the ball. No more pounding the at the top of the key. His defense was better than I expected. Going against XJ in practice is paying dividends. I can see this group being very dangerous in March.

That's really what I expect from Cupps. Nothing spectacular, no highlight reel plays, just steady, consistent winning plays. The right decision at the right time.

Don't know what there is to be mad about. CMW likely knows more about this than any of us and has handled it. I won't give it another thought.

Not what I wanted to see first thing this morning. He is a key piece of this years team.

How long before Jackson hits the portal again? Guys who think they are "the guy" usually don't stick around long when they aren't.

I always believe there's a non zero chance of anything happening. I'll leave it at that.

I don't think there is a magic bullet to fix what's wrong with IU football. This is a total system failure. We get low quality players and coach them down. We are close to the point where guys are just waiting for portal season.

I want Fland at IU because I think he can be a difference maker. But I don't think a sophomore Cupps is a bad option at the point either. Absolutely want to accumulate talent, but I trust that the staff will do what is necessary address our needs.

Been in that situation a few times myself. Lost both of my parents in my twenties, so I have some sense of what it's like. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I don't want anyone raining on my delirious happy mood the rest of this week.

So much about recruiting is perception. The teams who are always mentioned to be final four contenders are usually in the front of top recruits minds. CMW has done a remarkable job of getting us into their minds. He has credentials to market and he has a great staff. But this becomes a momentum thing where the more top kids pick IU, the more top kids consider IU. The optiminist in me thinks, barring a complete failure this year, really good times are ahead.

Not sure about the Bird comparison but I like everything about McNeely. He plays with high IQ and his shot is a thing of beauty. He could very well play himself into a one and done situation. Selfishly, I'd like to have him for more than one because that would bode well for IU basketball.
