IUBB vs #2 Kansas - Saturday, 12.16.23 @ 12:30 on CBS
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
As disappointing as the result was, and of course that is all that matters, we know we can play with the top teams, at least at home. I expected a rough November and December. XJ was expected to anchor our backcourt but he is injured and here we are. Time to get ready for a long, difficult, and physical B1G season. And unbelievably, the sun came out on the north side of Indianapolis this afternoon. -
That's two incidents at LC in the last couple of weeks. Not a good look.

(2024) QB Tyler Cherry TO INDIANA
cthomas replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Starting to feel like a trophy for everyone. But I get that the most visible positions have an advantage. -
Let me start by saying I'm an idiot, but I'm getting excited about IU football again. I think we have our guy and, so far, he is checking all the boxes. I like where this is going and we are still early in the process (to steal one of CCC's words). But, like I said, I'm an idiot.
-
Just shows what a dominant player he was. In high school he was a man among boys. In college he was a man among lesser men. Once in a generation talent who was also a good person.
-
We could be on to something really good. CCC is not screwing around. He intends to win from the get go. Improvements in discipline, organization, and execution will take us a long way.
-
Obviously he's not afraid to compete. And, do we really want guys who are?

A little more about the great George McGinnis. Would have loved to have seen him play a couple of years under CBK. "3-time Parade Magazine All-American in football, position tightend; 1966 State Football Champions; 2-time Parade Magazine All-American in basketball; All-City and All-State in football and basketball; Mr. Basketball 1969; 1969 team went unbeaten and won Indiana State High School Basketball Championship; set an Indiana state tournament scoring record with 148 points in final four games."
-
I think he played TE or something like that. Hard to imagine how a defensive back would feel seeing George coming at him at full speed.
-
I've followed Big George since high school. He was a phenomenal athlete in both basketball and football. Watched him at every stop during his professional career. It's so sad that another Hoosier icon has left us. I'm sure he is somewhere on a basketball court right now with CBK watching.

To field a competitive team, you might have to hurt some feelings. We are in no position to be nice. CCC knows what he needs and he is going after it. He seems to have a bit of a rough edge. I'm good with that.

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This has been a very long term injury. Obviously something unusual to the point that I wonder if he will ever be able to play. I certainly hope he can, but I think he is a long way from seeing the court. On top of that, he has missed so much in terms of skill development. Although, he looks like he is no stranger to the weight room. -

Is it safe to be here yet? Didn't see the game. Had a family Christmas gathering to go to. Saw the score and decided to flush the watch later plan. Granted I am way older than most on here but I refuse, at this point in my life, to let the results of a basketball game affect any aspect of my life. Full disclosure, I wasn't always that way, so I get the reaction. These days an afternoon with my grandkids trumps just about everything. We'll get better or we won't. But the things I enjoy most in life won't change. -

I hope we continue to improve and not take a step back. I feel like we are playing Russian Roulette with XJ out, except without JHS. I like Cupps a lot but we are asking more than we should be at this point in his career. -
Exactly. No way CCC enters the spring with no qb competition. We've all been so shell shocked the last few years (decades) that we don't know what a well run Indiana program looks like.
-
CCC seems to have a plan. He has laid out pretty well how he intends to implement it. LEO was about relationships and not much about how to get things done. That is the difference between who we had and who we've got. Nothing wrong with LEO as a concept for how people treat each other. But, we have needed structure and discipline for a long time and I'm pretty sure we are about to get it.
-
I really don't know how it can get much worse. CCC needs to get guys he can work with and who embrace what he is trying to do. Until we know what the team looks like, we have no idea how successful we might be. I'm convinced we have upgraded the coaching staff. That's the absolute first step to being a successful program.

IUBB @ Michigan - Tuesday, 12.05.23 @ 9:00 on Peacock TV
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I've never understood the criticism that CJ has received. He's in his second year and seems to be starting to figure things out. His upside is unbelievable and he is starting to show it on defensive side which is exactly what he should do. And now Cupps is getting ripped for his play. He is a freshman who is being put in difficult positions but is handling it to the best of his ability. He plays harder than anyone and is at least a nuisance to whoever he is guarding. I'm pretty sure he is going to get better as the season goes along. We want instant gratification and if a young kid doesn't look like an All-American, we criticize. Same with MM. Give them time to learn and grow. Obviously, CMW sees something in them. -

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
cthomas replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Couldn't agree more. From all reports he was a really good player prior to the injury. I don't think he ever really recovered completely from it. That situation was a part of what seemed like a "whatever can go wrong will go wrong" CAM era. Hopefully he get his degree and have fulfilling life. -
Look, I'm obviously a gullible idiot, but this hire feels different. 100% different from CTA. This guy is not screwing around. If everything starts at the top, then I'm glad he's that guy. I like how he is building his staff and team. After the last couple of years, we really need a reset.
