Interesting read about Coach Knight, Thoughts?
cthomas replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I started watching/listening to IU basketball in the '50's so I remember the Knight years from start to finish. That he was a great basketball coach is a given. He professed so many values that seemed so right and yet acted at times so badly. I have never understood him and to this day I'm not sure exactly how I feel about Coach Knight. -
IU v. Wisco Game Thread 2/3 7pm on ESPN
cthomas replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This game was not as close as the final score looks. Wisconsin really lost focus once the lead topped 30. Michigan is almost a must win situation. -
The paradigm for hiring where I used to work was, "Past performance is the best predictor of future success." I think Coach Crean's body of work is large enough that we should have a pretty good idea of what we will get. If that doesn't meet expectations, then it is probably time to find someone else. If it does, then carry on!

I like the Chris Reynolds reference. I was thinking the same thing.

Depends on who you want to compete with. If competing with the Kentucky's of the world is what you want, then you better get the best players you possibly can.

What a mine field this topic is. I'll just go with CTC's "these things always work themselves out".

IU vs Louisville Game Thread
cthomas replied to Beachfront Property's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Stan and Troy have not shown the growth I had hoped they would. Obviously, defense and rebounding must be better in the second half. If Louisville is allowed to be that physical the rest of the game we are in big trouble. -
Bryant at IU would be a great addition as would anyone over 6' 9' with some skill. To me, a Dean Garrett type guy roaming in the paint would solve a lot of our ills this season.

IU vs Louisville Game Thread
cthomas replied to Beachfront Property's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Our offense hasn't really been the problem. In fact, we have looked better offensively against the better teams we've played. The two times I have seen Louisville play they have looked very beatable. In my opinion, they are nowhere near the team they were with Smith and Hancock. For me the game will turn on the defensive end, the boards, and how the officials call the game. The X-factor for us to be in the game at the end is Holt in my opinion. -
IU vs Pitt Official Post Game Thread

I think Holt will be a major piece going forward. To me he looks more natural and aware than HMP right now. Hartman looks like a permanent part of the rotation and Johnson may end up being our best all around player before he's finished. -
Football season may be over, but I'm guessing that a football specific off season conditioning program will start soon. Besides, Coach Wilson doesn't seem like a "sharing" kind of guy to me.

This is the kind of game that worries me about the conference games. -

Seems like a lot of one on one play tonight. -
I wouldn't be surprised if other coaches recruiting against IU point out that we have a guard oriented offense that really doesn't feature bigs. It might explain why we seem to have problems closing the deal with elite big men lately.

Thoughts on the Games in Indy Last Night
cthomas replied to CampHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Kentucky may be the best collection of talent I have ever seen on the collegiate level. Of course, the majority of them should be in the NBA right now instead of making a sham of the student-athelete concept. They may lose a game along the way, but I don't see them being beaten. I hope I'm wrong but that team looks like a National Champion to me. -
IU vs Northwood Post-Game Thread
cthomas replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The concern for me is that if/when he "fully" recovers, what are the potential effects of another significant blow to the head. Basketball, especially around the basket, is a contact sport. As much as I would like to see him play again, I would rather his long term health be the most important consideration. -

That HMP's hands 'still need work' is a little concerning to me.
