6'4" Guard Nick Zeisloft joins Hoosiers
BGleas replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So if a player misses a shot and it bounces of the rim over the backboard out of bounds, you think that should be a turnover? It's essentially the same thing as an airball. Under that theory every missed shot, whether it's an airball, caroms out of bounds, or simply gets rebounded by the defense would be a turnover. -
The sign of a good player and good development is when they've learned to contribute in multiple ways. A good player contributes even when they're not scoring. Sounds like Troy is coming into his own. Great news!

(2015) JUCO PF Ray Kasongo
BGleas replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
As far as 2015 is concerned, I'm not sure where I stand on this yet, but the questions would be IMO. Can Kasongo contribute this year? And, is a sophomore Kasongo, with a year in the program under his belt, better than a maybe more highly ranked (Bryant) big as a freshmen next year? I'm sure a spot would open up for '15 anyways, but those are the questions I think of when i hear we're recruiting Kasongo. -

Without knowing much of the situation, not sure why this kid would choose to ride the bench, and even potentially red-shirt, at Kansas, when he can play right away at IU or MSU. -
Perea not with Team due to VISA issues
BGleas replied to djsalway's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I went on a very similar trip entering my senior year of college. We did 5 days in Toronto and 5 days in Montreal. We had to have everything (papers, etc.) to our coaches ahead of time. We had a kid on our team from Serbia, and it was down to the wire on whether he was going to be able to go. He ultimately did come, but I can tell you there was nothing more our coaches could have done, it was really out of their hands. -

Thanks! Our entire family pretty much lives by it now. My Grandfather was a really high ranking FBI Agent, and my grandmother was a secretary for J. Edgar Hoover, so they really had to live by those words. -

But you're ticked off about this, yet we have no clue what actually happened. We have no clue if this was a Canadian government thing completely out of the staff's hands. There's a good chance everyone on IU's side did do their job. -

Agree. My Grandfather had a saying that has stuck with our entire family over the years. Simply "don't panic, adjust". I think of it everyday in my life, and feel it applies here. Like you said, it's unfortunate, but not the end of the world, and it's most likely something the staff could do nothing about. -
I don't think the strategy has changed at all. Run down the list of the top 2015 guys and we tried to get in with almost all of them. What you see now is just Crean running down the list.

I'm not a huge Kevin Love fan, but also don't buy the "he didn't get his team to the playoffs thing" either. There's a difference with Cleveland, he's not the #1 guy he's a the #2 guy. If love is your best player and you're in a good conference, then you'll struggle. But as a #2 guy I think he can be really good. Same as Bosh when LeBron was in Miami. As a #1 in Toronto, Bosh put up numbers but they couldn't win. When Bosh is your #3 guy, you're a title contender. It's a different role.

Best of luck with the move, NaturalHoosier! I'm in MD, so definitely looking forward to the first time IU comes to UMD to play!

The late 90's and early 2000's was terrible in the NBA. It's so much better now. In the early 2000's the Eastern Conference was horrible, even worse than it was this year. You had scoring point guards like Steve Francis, Stephon Marbury and Iverson ruining offense, and the post-Jordan superstars weren't that like able or enjoyable to watch. This might be the best the NBA has been since the 80's and early 90's.

Encouraging that he said the IU visit will probably be an official visit.

I'd go to IU for a year and then declare for the draft.

247 updated 2015/2016 rankings

Assuming Zimmerman is a pipe dream, I think my favorite recruits that we're actually in with are Maker, Leaf, Mitchell and Davis. At least for now. I think Maker would be an absolute coup for Crean, almost more for the perception and attention it would bring than even his skill as a player. I think Maker brings a lot of intrigue from media and fans wherever he lands. There's an unknown about him. -
2014 July Evaluation Period
BGleas replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Thanks guys. So it's not a matter of prioritizing others, which is good. Would love to add Leaf in 2016. -

We should know a lot in the next couple weeks, guys should start scheduling their officials after this last eval period, correct? -

I would love that as a 2-man class. Though I think a PF along with Maker would make more sense, I'm all-in on Mitchell after seeing some of his videos and how he's blowing up this summer. -
He might. I forget the comparison, but I saw something where it compared the money LeBron and Kobe make compared to another superstar player, and the difference was deals LeBron and Kobe had in China. I thought it was Wade, but maybe it was someone else.
-
Very good point. Completely forgot about what it could mean for it erratic all marketing, especially China. There's been a big push to market NBA players in China over recent years. It's a big reason why players like Kobe and LeBron make so much more than someone like Wade.
-
There's also an advantage to staying home, in terms of marketing/sponsorship dollars. While Mudiay will make more this year, he may be less marketable in the U.S. Over the next couple years. The NCAA Tournament does wonders for a lot of these guys in terms of marketing and brand development.

Bad shot selection isn't exclusive to teams that play fast. I've seen a ton of teams that play slow end up taking terrible shots at the buzzer because they just stood around and had no movement, then relied on a player to "make a play". Bad shots happen because of bad offense, doesn't matter if the clock is 35 or 30. All it would do for IU is cut down on the stupid weave and guys just standing around. It would force us to get into our plays quicker.

Our five "big" non conference games
BGleas replied to Parakeet Jones's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Jeremy Tyler as well. Was a Louisville recruit, I think he even bypassed his senior year or took extra classes to graduate early to go overseas. Something like that. -
I'd just prefer, at least publicly, a more positive message. It's subtle, but "The players that puts in the time now, will be the players on the floor for us in March!". Or "If I can count on you in July, I can count on you in March!" Current players aren't the only ones seeing these. Rip them behind close doors all you want, but publicly I think it's better to come off as a positive motivator.
