Carmelo Anthony had a 1.8 GPA his only year
BGleas replied to theriverpilot's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
They definitely play their share of cupcakes, but I think their "marquee" games are better than ours. -
I could be wrong, but I never really thought he played pg for them? Regardless, while he puts up numbers, he's one of the more inefficient scorers in the league.

Agree, the answer is really both.

(2015) SG Shake Milton to SMU
BGleas replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
While I'd of course love to land Shake, the most important thing for the 2015-16 Hoosiers is having our top 8 from this coming season return. If we have Yogi, JBJ, Troy, Hanner, RoJo, Stan, Devin, Zeisloft and Holt coming back, then we should be good. Add Morgan and whoever else, and we should be really good! -
I remember being so hyped when I was 16 and for Christmas my parents got me this cassette with a wire that connected to you discman, plug the cassette into your car and then you could play cd's in your car through the discman. That's old school!

My freshmen year of college we didn't have cable in our dorms and my roommate and I just had Braveheart on a loop on our VCR player. When you got back to the room you'd just pick up wherever it was at. Good times!

Stinking UK practice on ESPNU now
BGleas replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My issue with the NCAA on this, is mainly the timing of the event. Football programs can have Pro Days on their campus, but that's different because those are post-season, before the draft and only with guys eligible to be drafted. This isn't a scouting combine, this is a promotional/recruiting piece for Cal/UK. I'd have less of a problem if it was for just guys declared for the draft and after the season. This is more about being on ESPN and having all those NBA scouts on campus on a recruiting weekend, than it is about helping his current players. With that said, Cal is a great marketer and knows what "sells". -
(2015) SF Ogugua Anunoby to IU
BGleas replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I wasn't posting to support Matta as a coach, just saying that his teams typically have a lot of tall/long wings. A lot of guys that look like Troy Williams, for instance. The Evan Turner teams for example, I think they started Turner, Diebler, Lightey and Buford, all about 6'6"-6'8" wings. -
I agree with your post in general. Everybody is different and he's welcome to do what's right for him, I'd just question whether he really gave it enough time. That's the only thing for me, is did he really give it a chance?

Does anyone have any practice tape or cook hall...
BGleas replied to DawgBawls's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Just clarify, I think Davis will be improved this year and he looked huge in some ITH photos posted yesterday. I expect him to be able to use his body and positioning, along with a year of experience in the program, to be a better defender this year. -
Ok, that changes things. Thanks for the clarification, hadn't heard that before.

Isn't this an ankle injury? This seems odd. I have had tons of ankle injuries playing basketball, torn ligaments, cracked a bone, and numerous rolled ankles of varying severity, and I think 6 weeks is the most I ever missed and that was only because it was the offseason. I'm not a doctor by any means, but this just seems odd. Ankle injuries usually get progressively better with rest and Crean recently said there was "no change". It just doesn't make sense to me.

BGleas replied to DawgBawls's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
That's not my recollection, my recollection is Davis pretty much getting taken advantage of on the block defensively. That's partly why he fouled a lot. -

I don't remember DD bullying anyone last year. If memory serves me correctly, he got fairly abused down low on the defensive end last year. His rebounding is good, but he regularly got abused defensively on the block. -

Agree with your overall point, but those role player, upperclassmen guys need to be more talented than Howard and what many of us are suggesting Priller will be if they're going to contribute to a contending team. -

While I have a great deal of respect for Tim Howard and anybody that's a walk-on, Howard being a contributor was part of the problem last year not the solution. The fact that he at times deserved to play ahead of guys like Hollowell, Perea and Davis, was the problem. -

We don't know if Priller can put the ball in the bucket at this level. In high school he was a 6'9" guy getting his shot off against much smaller players and much less athletic than he'll see in the Big Ten. Getting your shot off against guys that are the same size and far superior athletically is an entire different thing. -
I hope they play more than one season together. I think they should, but you never know in this era of college basketball.

I just tried to google it, all I found was an article that called him a Top 50 recruit.

I think Moye was actually a pretty highly ranked kid. I didn't look it up, but I remember him being highly thought of.

The problem with comparing people to VO is that athleticism was really only a fraction of why he was so successful. IMO, more important than his athleticism, which is off the charts, is his mentality, work ethic and character. That's what made him, there's ton of athletic guys, but the other things are what make a guy great. -
Quick note: Football games as a basketball recruiting tool
BGleas replied to ziggyiu's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If Crean's smart, he uses it to his advantage. If I'm him and we're recruiting a kid against a traditional football school, I'm saying "remember the atmosphere at their football game? This is Indiana, that's what our basketball games are like. See the atmosphere at this football game? That's what their basketball games are like." -
I've been really down on Crean since last season. But in your scenario I don't think the gap is so much Crean vs. Beilein, as it's Perea vs. Jordan Morgan. If Perea averages 9 and 5 and is on the Big Ten All-Defensive Team then IU will be damn good this year. That's the production Michigan got from Morgan in the past. If Perea plays 15-20 minutes a night, averaged 4 and 3 and is constantly fouling out, then we'll struggle.
