I think part of keeping them in the locker room was also mainly to keep the focus on the court, and with all the noise around the program not have those guys be a distraction.

Crean was on a podcast today with Andy Katz and Seth Greenberg, and said he hasn't been told by anyone that Davis wouldn't eventually return to the court. He said he has no timetable or anything like that, but everyone has said he will recover and while it could change, nobody has mentioned Davis not playing again.

Would be awesome if that rumor pans out, though I wouldn't get my hopes up unless he added IU as an official visit. Doubt he'd commit here with never actually visiting. 

Not to stir things up, but after reading that article we have Crean touting that he's being tougher by extending Tory/Stan's suspensions an extra game (to 4), yet Troy's Mom tells us she was told in the summer Troy was suspended 3 games, as the exhibitions only count as half a game. I smell a little PR spin going on her, which is not what is needed right now.

It's embarrassing how quiet ESPN has been on the UNC thing. Jameis Winston or Johnny Maziel sell autographs and they lead SportsCenter for weeks, UNC has 20 years of fraudulent classes for athletes and not a peep. I even heard Mike and Mike try to pass the scandal off as rogue academic advisors who have now been fired.

I thought Crean did a great job today. He can sometimes be short when challenged by the media, and often full of "coach speak", but today he was open, kind of pulled the curtain back a bit, and took the time to let the media ask what was needed and answer them. I thought he did a lot to help himself, though as Bronk said the proof will be in the pudding.

How has he turned Illinois around? They're ok, I guess. I wouldn't call them turned around.

I don't think Holt failed a drug test. I think his suspension is for the underage drinking.

Because there are two different "incidents" here. There's the car accident, which was determined to not be his fault, and then there's the underage drinking, which is his fault. The statement is very open-ended and not specific. We all pay attention to the details because we follow these things daily, but most don't. I'm sure he feels horrible that Davis got hurt and he was behind the wheel, but the statement makes it sound like he's admitting fault for an accident that was deemed to not be his fault. I just think they could have worded that much better.

My problem with that, is what is the solution then? Sounds like we're keeping the coach, yet we only dole out a 4 game suspension to a guy like Stan that has a wrap sheet of incidents. If Crean's staying, then don't the punishments at least have to be heavier? Something has to change, right?

Remember Hollowell had "focus" issues? Pure speculation, but maybe Vonleh wasn't protecting his draft stock at the end of the year?

As a PR person by trade, and one that did PR in professional sports for 5 years, that's a terribly worded statement. I'm sure the media relations staff wrote that for him, and all it does is raise more confusion than anything.

Hopefully/probably. Poorly worded is an understatement. I'd almost say it's irresponsibly worded. The implication is that the car essentially did a circle and ran him over.  

The wording of this tweet is very odd...        Tyler Brooke‏@TylerDBrooke Source wanted to make clear that Davis was NOT hit as soon as he got out of car. Instead, car circled back around and him him at full speed.  

I completly hear and understand your point, but if those good kids don't like the way they're being portrayed or lumped in as their team is being portrayed, then grab your teammates that aren't following the rules by the neck and rip them a new one. It's not on the media/fans, it's on the players.   

Glad you and your kids had fun! Just curious, could you tell the moods of guys. Did guys seem somber, or was everyone pretty normal?

Again, if the scenario I laid out ends up being true (I don't know if it is or not, but it's certainly plausible) then I don't even understand what you're talking about. You're clearly not looking for a discussion, so I'll bow out at this point.

You have no idea if Crean has "lost the program". Neither do I. Maybe it's the complete opposite? Maybe Devin and Emmitt would have loved to go out and party on Halloween all night but listened to Crean and decided to just go out for a little bit and head home early. Maybe they went to a friends for a couple hours and were heading home early and this was a freak accident? It's entirely plausible that they were calling it a night early and Devin was chasing the car because he left his cell phone in it.

A fact could come out that Holt was not at fault and Devin darted out in front of him.

A beer or two? No, not really. Minus the accident, that seems pretty harmless.

Yogi's mom tweeted that Devin is resting comfortably. She did also say "still cautious" though.
