Why do I have Iowa vs. Stetson on the SEC Network?

While I'll take any win we can get against another top 25 team, I'd rather see us stomp Butler proving we're a legit top 5 team.

Nickens played last year, you're thinking of Dion Wiley who is back. They also have a really strong freshmen class. No big time 5* guys, but Huerter, Jackson and Covan are good. But, you don't lose 4 starters without a drop off.

They lost 4 starters. Stone, Laymen, Carter and Suiliamon.

Yeah, unless Dukes three freshmen come back healthy and as advertised, this is going to be a wide-open season. Probably 10+ teams capable of getting hot and winning a title.

IU OVER unc POST GAME THREAD

Really impressive that we held UNC to 67 points. Really good defensive effort, off the heels of the Ft. Wayne disaster. Probably even most impressive is how we didn't let Carolina get into hardly any transition offense. I do worry about our offense at time, we struggle to get buckets when things stagnate, and just shocking we've beaten KU and UNC with how shaky our guards can be. Hopefully we use the next several games to get OG healthy and to get CuJo and Green some confidence back. We're going to need the young guards to provide some offense off the bench.

Curious as to your thoughts on whether offering the local kids (8th/9th grade) so early is an effective strategy? I've always wondered if the better way, at least for local kids, would be showing interest of course but holding the offer until later in their careers. Add some "specialness" to it. You you always hear of kids holding out for that UK offer or Duke offer, almost begging for it through the media. While we're not UK or Duke, there should be an element of that for IU with local kids, but I'm wondering if Crean comes on too strong, too early with the local kids? Instead of offering them in 9th grade and being all over them, make them wait/hold out a bit for us. Make them really want us. The risk of course is that someone else builds a strong relationship and we're top late, but what they're doing now clearly isn't working. Thoughts?

I think the point is kind of two-fold as well. The '10 and '15 classes were both good because of the talent they ended up bringing, but the other aspect of it is that when you bring in a 2 and 3-man class it means there's less roster turnover as well. It means most likely those classes are joining experienced teams with upperclassmen. Obviously the '10 class is a little different because of the situation, but in a typical situation a 2-man class is joining an experienced team. Then you look at the '13 and '14 classes, they were a larger and they both joined teams with lots of turnover, and especially in the case of the '13 class they joined a team with very little experience.

I'd even argue that if this was better competition the majority of McSwain's minutes would have gone to Juwan Morgan.
  10. I'm expecting IU to be a little sluggish tonight. Partly becuase we're coming off a huge win and partly just due to the travel/time adjustments. I'm thinking we might just be up a couple midway through the first half, and maybe up 10ish at the half, before shaking off the cobwebs and stepping on the gas in the second half.

This game is really making me appreciate Thomas Bryant. I know Duke is missing a bunch of guys, but Jeter and Jefferson are still both former McDonald's AA and Kansas' bigs all the sudden look amazing tonight.

It was hard for me to tell if Purdue is really that good, or if of the top teams in the country Villanova is a really favorable matchup for them and it was at home. Not saying Purdue isn't good, I'm just not sure how good yet. Villanova is one of the few top teams that has almost no inside, big presence. While Haas is huge compared to everyone and Swanigan is a stud, teams like Duke, UK, UNC, IU, Arizona, etc., all at least have bigs that can pose a resistance. So, I'll be interested to see Purdue against a team that can at least matchup with their interior a little bit.

This! It's not about ranting and raving about stars and this and that, etc., it's that none of this makes any sense. It's not like we're Minnesota, Ole Miss, or Clemson. We're a tradition rich program, we have amazing facilities, we put guys in the NBA now, we play in one of the best atmospheres in the nation in one of the top/most competitive conferences, we play one of the most exciting styles in the country and our coach is known for player development. It just makes no sense why some 5*'s and low 4*'s aren't lining up.

Exactly, and at most of those schools you're playing in front of half empty arenas, certainly none have an atmosphere even remotely close to IU's.
  18. Purely a guess, as I'm in Balt too not Indiana, but I'd guess it's more about AAU programs than high school coaches.

    1) IU really does look like such a fun place and brand of basketball to play in, and 2) Bilas was pumping up the player development and Crean's/staff's skill for preparing guys for the NBA.
