  1. Now they're going to the monitor again with 8 seconds left because two guys fell down.
  2. Geez, now they're at the monitor looking at an out of bounds call. The game is over!!
  3. I hate when they stick with first game when it's clearly over. We'll probably have to watch Xavier foul at least two more times.

    TOM CREAN FIRED

Just looked it up, he was an assistant at OSU for two seasons. He's also coached at NC St, Arizona St and Arizona.

That's what I thought. He's from Pa (granted Western Pa), went to NC St., was an assistant at Arizona. Not sure what ties he has to OSU other than coaching at Dayton in the same state now.

Have I missed something? Why do we think Miller cares about OSU?

The NBA is trying to make kids stay in college longer, not shorter. Players Association won't let them.

I'm not calling Crean dirty, I think he's probably as clean as they get at a high major program, but there's no way he's not playing in the grey area too. Remember the last time the "fire Crean" noise was at it's height? What happened the next game? Thomas Bryant and Thon Maker were both sitting directly behind the bench. And by all accounts the visits were out of the blue. Coincidence?
  9. You never know, he might not be stopped, he could just be off. Heading into the MSU game I would have said "who on IU will stop Miles Bridges?" RoJo and McRoberts ended up locking him up.

    The Optimist's Shorter Rotation Theory

I think IU's record might be different right now if you had a healthy rotation of JBJ, RoJo, Green, OG, Hartman, Morgan, Davis and Bryant. I meant literally have nobody else dress for the game, just those eight guys. Maybe let CuJo dress to have just in case, but that's it. No Newkirk, no McRoberts (who I actually like, but we don't need more guys), no McSwain, etc. Crean just can't substitute, No reason your best players shouldn't average 30ish minutes a game.

Definitely seems like a great resume to this point for someone so young. I tend to think you need a little more experience to run a program as major as IU, but I really like that he's getting head coaching experience at the NBDL level, that he's seems incredibly smart, and comes from the Butler tree. One thing I've said is that if we make a change I want Glass to get really creative. Do what he needs to do to get the best coach possible, no matter how outside the box it may be. Don't settle for a retread because you're afraid. So, this would certainly qualify. I'd need to read up more, maybe he'd be better suited for a lead assistant/coach in waiting under an older/experienced coach, I would definitely be open to him.

He signed an extension last summer, as did Adams and Olidipo. He's not going anywhere , and while they still need a piece or two, they're not doing that bad considering the loss of Durant. They were 4th in the West going into the game they lost to the Clippers last night.

    McDonald's All American Rosters

We were, but we weren't. It was a forgone conclusion he was going to UCLA for weeks. I guess by "never in it" I meant where it was coming down to the end and we were still really in it.

Agree, I doubt he would leave Kansas for IU, but IMO this is the kind of thinking Glass/the admin need. If/when IU moves on from Crean I wouldn't be upset with a Holtman type hire, he seems like he can really coach, but I hope it would be after some really creative and aggressive thinking. Make runs at Stevens, Donovan, Self and some other legit/top flight guys. Get creative and make them say no. You never know! If we still end up with a Holtman or Archie Miller, so be it I can still get behind and excited about that. But, I'd like to see aggressive, creative thinking first.

Were never even in it with any of them either. Not a single one where the decision wasn't well known that it wasn't IU for a long time before the kid officially announced.

There's a lot of hand wringing over offense on this board, and I'm not claiming to love our half court offense, but watching a lot of college basketball over the last couple weeks has made me want a new coach even more, but I think the focus on offense is almost misguided. Could of half court offense be better? Absolutely! But we're not really terrible. But, I watch a game like Butler vs. Xavier and I see both half-court offenses looking pretty similar to ours, even with turnovers (IU's problem is ridiculous unforced turnovers) , the difference is the defense turnovers. Both coaches use pressure and defensive adjustments to impact the game. I left the game thinking either coach would make our current team vastly better than it is.
  17. Just watched the play a couple more times. JBJ and OG definitely set up WAY too extended, but doesn't look like the defense had anything to do with it. It was all OG and JBJ, that's just where they started. Too bad, was a good concept if executed correctly.
  18. Poor execution happens like that all the time. Guys don't wait long enough for screens, screeners leave too early, plays get too extended, etc. When there's real defense on you and it's a pressure situation you quite often go too fast and attention to detail slips. JBJ and OG for whatever reason (maybe the defense forced, maybe they were just going to fast) got too extended and it messed up that option. Happens all the time. We got a great look from RoJo and just missed. I actually think it was a really good play. But out as we've all agreed, never should have been in that spot in the first place.
  19. It was clearly poor execution. The play itself was drawn up really well. I don't see what the play being flipped would have anything to do with it? They set the screen too wide, so it didn't work, and as someone else said we got a great look on the second option. How is RoJo the wrong guy in the wrong place? Our best 3-pt shooter was option one and it didn't work out, our second best 3-pt shooter was option two and got a great look. In that situation you can't ask for much more. The ball just didn't go in, it happens. Now if we want to discuss that we never should have even been in that situation to begin with, as Wayne said, then I fully agree and could come up with 100 reasons why that's Crean's fault.
  20. Yes, it was for JBJ. The first option was OG setting a flare screen for JBJ to flare to the corner for a 3. It's actually not a bad play, it was just poorly executed. JBJ and OG started the play too wide causing there to be no passing lane for Newkirk. If they had started the play closer to high elbow then Newkirk would have had a lane to get it there. When end that option was taken away they had the Morgan screen action for RoJo as the second option. It was actually a pretty good play, that got a fairly open 3, but JBJ and OG poorly executed the first option.

To be fair, if Blackmon stayed for his senior year (which I don't think he will) he would probably be right around the Top 10 all-time on the scoring list, and that's with missing half a season.

I thought the entire time that you couldn't tell if Cline's finger tips were on the ball. There really wasn't a good angle on it.

Really bad possession there for Iowa. Up 1 with 40ish seconds left and looked really out of synch. Fran should have called a timeout to reset. Ended in a turnover.
