Potential starting 5 for next year, does Juwan GoPro?
BGleas replied to tortex28's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would be shocked if Archie starts three freshmen, especially all in the backcourt. I just don’t see that as a likely scenario. -
(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
BGleas replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We have no idea. He could go into the process thinking he’s just getting feedback with intentions to come back, and then could wow a team into wanting to see more of him, etc. Unless Morgan definitively isn’t even going to test the waters, nobody will know on the date of Langford’s committment if he’ll be back. -

He wouldn’t know either. My comments are assuming Morgan takes advantage of the new rules where he can declare and go work out for teams, etc., so Langford, Archie, fans, etc. would not know. -

Assuming he commits at the McDonald’s Game, it will be before we know what Morgan is doing. -

I expect McRoberts to start next year, and with the emergence of Green, assuming this is just the start of big things for him, I think the freshmen might be brought along more slowly than originally thought. McRoberts just does too many things that impact winning, and we know Archie likes veterans. Also, McRoberts takes pressure off Langford (assuming we get him) defensively. I could see Green, Langford, McRoberts, Smith, Morgan. That’s a talented group on both ends, with three veteran guys. Unless Hunter is just a beast from the jump, I really think Archie goes that way. -
They’ve had a blank banner in their practice facility for several years. Supposed to be movtivational placeholder for banner 18.

The UK is young excise just doesn’t work, UK is young by purposeful choice. They build their program that way on purpose.

Game Thread : Minnesota @ Indiana | 7:30EST on FS1
BGleas replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Devonte playing like this just changes the entire dynamic of the team. He can be really good defensively, but he adds a creative element offensively that has sorely been lacking. He can create offense for teammates and himself, which is something Newkirk and RoJo can’t really do. Hopefully this is the “new Devonte” for good, because it makes us so much better. -

You want to leave a little of the street ball there though, that’s what makes him a little electric, just have to reign it and teach him to use it for good. -

I about fell out of my chair when the play-by-play guy said, “Donny, you have aspirations to be a head coach, right?” I wouldn’t let him coach my daughters 4th grade team. -

I don't think the McDonald's game is an indicator one way or the other. As has been mentioned several times by people, this is about family and brand. His entire family will be there, and the McDonald's game is best for his brand. IU is also best for his brand. It adds up. -
Archie may do wonders too. Remember, Bennett went 15-16 and 16-15 his first two years at UVA.

Believe me, I’m in no way supporting Izzo. His handling of this situation was terrible, and after an investigation he should suffer whatever necessary consequences. But, shouldn’t we be far more upset with the East Lansing/MSU police department? Izzo isn’t the one who declined to press charges on what seemed like a pretty solid case. If these guys committed this assault they should be behind bars, not running suicides at The Breslin Center. Why weren’t charges filed? Did the athletic department (AD and/or Izzo) influence charges not being brought against the players? Those are the questions that need answers.

Ugh...

Imagine where this team would be without him? We certainly lose the ND game, maybe games like PSU and Maryland too.

I wonders the appeal of that job now that UConn is in the AAC and not the Big East? At least in basketball, UConn may have been more negatively impacted by conference realignment than any other school.

(2018) PG Robert Phinisee to Cincinnati
BGleas replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I haven't seen many interviews with the other two, but the things I have heard from Phinisee and Anderson lead me to believe the leadership and toughness will not be in issue going forward under Archie. It might take time to develop the new culture, but these two seem ready to impact that. -
Dickie V is one of the biggest hypocrites in college sports. I love what he does for charity, etc., but he’s as much a part of the problem as anyone in the college game.

Is there a link, would love to see more on this?

It's a completely old school mentality that weight training somehow negatively impacts shooting. As long as you're shooting in conjunction, then weight training is great for shooting. Every college program, NBA organization, and the vast majority of high school programs lift weights during the season. Are we to assume all of these professionals don't know what they're doing? Yes, if you go on a lifting binge for weeks at a time and never pick up a basketball, then it can impact your shot. But if you're working with the ball in conjunction with strength training, which every basketball player is doing, then it's great for your performance and shooting. Heck, MJ used to lift hard on game days.

IU at Illinois Game Thread (1/24 - 9pm - BTN)
BGleas replied to KB0's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The refs absolutely, 100% ruined that game and basically made it unwatchable. The refs and the Big Ten should be embarrassed. We lost the game because of poor guard play, turnovers and free throws, and the refs were terrible both ways for the most part, but if they didn’t decide to basically take the game over in the second half we would have won that game because we’re better than UI at basketball but not better at free throw shooting. -

Since I’ve been defending Archie, I’ll also provide something I feel he could have done over the last 8 or so minutes when we struggled to even get an entry pass from the point to the wing, and therefore couldn’t get Juwan the ball. He could have inverted the offense and gotten Juwan out on top with the ball and let him go to work from there, with our guards screening for each other to get a guy like RoJo open. Since our guards struggle so much and Illinois puts so much pressure on, it could have mixed things up and gotten our guys in some different positions, instead of just watching our guards dribble side-to-side. -

Believe me, I was in a debate yesterday on another forum arguing that Newkirk should absolutely keep his spot and Green doesn’t deserve the minutes. But with that said, Newkirk was terrible tonight. -

See my post above, but are these great shooters that have regressed? All these guys have always been streaky. Why is Hartman missing completely wide open 3’s? I don’t know.
